  1. I have a set of those wheels as well. They look pretty good on ea81's. Bumpers look awesome. Car is coming along nicely!
  2. Lol at the last pic. Looking good. The rust in this one really isn't that bad. Keep up the good work. The driver's side front floor pan is always the worst I usually start there now to get it out of the way Can't wait to see the new rockers go on this!
  3. Center caps came in! About time. The ones on the left side are a little loose for some reason. I may heat them and bend the tabs out, or just put some black tape around the edges so they sit better. Schools wrapping up (last month!!!) so I haven't had much time to work on this. I have however taken advantage of my snap-on discount $3500 dollars worth of stuff ordered today If you're wondering why it's sitting outside, it's because I picked up a new project... 72 beetle, picking up an engine to rebuild for it tomorrow hopefully!
  4. This is what I've always done. Usually I'm there Friday and Saturday, and leave pretty early on Sunday due to the long drive. I need to finish up my wagon....

  6. I honestly have no idea how the 360 guys do it. I'm sure there are people that have a bunch of left over parts. Same with my Goliath, I have better luck finding parts for that (I have boxes of NOS stuff) sometimes than my ea81's for those there really is nothing. I think it has to do with them just being an 80's econobox. No one in there right mind would have thought people would be restoring these in 30 years. I even had to track down used rear window seals for my 84 because there are no new ones left. They are getting hard to find parts for.
  7. I epoxy sealed mine in my 82. I think the kit was around $80, but after two years it gave up. It's leaking again now, and that's why I parked the car. It's impossible to find a tank here. It's worth it just to get a nice rust free one.
  8. Consider yourself lucky. Both of mine have been trashed beyond using (missing chunks). In my 82 I cut up a legacy rubber cargo mat to fit (works great if you want to protect it as well!) and the 84 is getting wood floors because of it My carpets looked in similar shape to the cargo mat, I ran them through the wash, and then dyed them and they came out awesome. Interior looks awesome. I love those seats. I wish the fwd had come with them, also super jealous of the high rise center console. Keep up the good work I like seeing progress on this
  9. Thanks! I debated welding mine and putting another rack like a basket type, but I'm glad I stuck with the stock one. It fits this car pretty well. And anytime if you need any more info on it let me know!

  11. We use tons of salt as well, just not on dirt (well a tiny bit) but nothing like the pavement here. My legacy is taking it hard this winter.... I may have some cross bars for that rack from when I parted the turbo wagon. I'll have to look. It probably won't be until next weekend at this point but I'll let you know if I fine anything.
  12. Thanks! They do look awesome on there. Glad I got them when I had the chance. Yeah I took it out in the snow :cool: they don't salt the dirt roads here because the salt would just turn them to mud. It was pretty frozen this morning so I didn't see any harm in a mile drive. I'm thinking up designs already for a new bumper The rack is factory. At first I really didn't like it (when it was chrome) but now that it's painted I really think it makes the car. Your car has the other style, I think it was called the four seasons rack. Which is what my 82 wagon has. I like that one a bit better, but without one these cars just look too plain.
  13. Took this out for a little drive today. Started right up and ran great, had a little hesitation above idle, but it was also a little cold out. It has a surprising amount of pull. Anyway I got some pics of it outside! I went and got my FWD bumper out of the shed, but looking at it I really don't like it. I have some ideas for a new one. It will be sweet. Up next fix the few wiring issues. I think I may order sway bars soon I need to address the exhaust. It's going to be lower (fwd xt struts??). I was thinking of having the windows tinted. vinyls are going to be added on the bottom of the doors. I need to finish up the interior (wood in the back and put the window cranks on). I'd like to get my seats recovered. Change all the fluids. Rear speakers need to be added. I may swap on a spare weber I have. Not sure about that yet. I need to get it on the road and see how the hitachi is doing first. I just don't want to get half way to a car show in Pennsylvania and have it die on me....
  14. Ea81 wagon wheels do not fit on an ea82. The ea82's have a different style wagon wheel.
  15. Yes they are. You don't want to get the metal too hot warping isn't so much an issue on the floor as on body panels because you wont see it, or have to fill it after. But the hotter it get's the easier it burns through, and you want to avoid making more holes. But it does look very fixable. The rust that scares me the most is on the bottom of the doors. I sandblasted mine. I think that was the best way of getting it out of there we will see how it holds up over time.
  16. it's not that bad. It helps to remove the windshield to get to the front bolts. The rest is basically unbolting things until it comes out. There are a couple screws that are a paint to get to. Once you do one or two it's pretty esay :-p Floors look pretty decent. better than my Fwd. Shouldn't be all that bad to fix by the looks of it!
  17. Don't forget to get the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. The manual ones are much longer. Also I believe the manual EJ's have a different starter where it mounts to the trans is a bit smaller than the autos. When I did the swap on the 92 legacy I have, I had to push start it and drive it home without a starter because I didn't realize this
  18. Thanks! I agree with the bumper I've thought it didn't look quite right since the day I made it, I think I'm going to be making another one. I want to integrate fog lights into it and box in the sections between the tubing. This one doesn't follow the body to my liking as well. It's too far away from the headlights, and too close to the grill. And like you said the white showing behind it. It's going to say like this until I can drive it to work in a few months. Another thought I had was either to put a spare 4x4 bumper I have on it. Or modify my fwd one so it sticks closer to the body. I may move it outside for some pics tomorrow
  19. I will do that. I got the door chime to work correctly today. Turns out the rear hatch wasn't latching causing the chime to stay on. Looked at the wipers today and decided to do other things Today I tacked my rear hatch interior panel. It had speaker holes cut in it (more than once) I started with a piece of plastic I had around. Then I cut it to fit the center sections. I ground out around where the screws go. And then wrapped them with some leftover headliner fabric. Kind of a bad pick but you get the idea I also put the front bumper corners back on. Hope you like pics
  20. I've ran into some electrical issues in the last couple of days with this. My disty bearing is on it's way out (jumping tach) the wipers are only working on one speed, and the door chime stays on whenever the key is in the ignition (not running) and the door ajar lights don't work with the key off. It will give me some stuff to chase down if nothing else As for updates I put the side trim on today. I blacked out the chrome strip on it, they were all beat up, and I couldn't break my theme with the car so far
  21. Thanks! It was in very bad condition when I got it. I probably shouldn't have fixed it, but I loved it to death after having about a week and knew I needed to fix it. Definitely paint the panels it would make that car look sharp. I'd be hesitant to paint the bumpers. People on here have had good luck using back to black (product by mothers) on the bumpers. I have yet to try it. A brushguard would be sweet if you can track one down. I got lucky and there was one at a local pick and pull. They had no idea was it was, I got it for the high price of $35

This is right after I painted them (the first time, they faded again after about two years) Actually I think this is the first time the car came out of the garage after paint I think they are aluminum. Although they bend kind of hard (my brat has them as well and I had to pound out a dent) so they could be stainless? Not sure on the material they do polish up nicely though. Edit, just found this one of my Brat.
