I usually oil undercoat all of my stuff. Bar an chain oil does quite well. After you do it drive it on a dry dirt road so it sticks to the bottom of the car really well. I apply it using a spray gun I have, I think it was under $20 for it and the bar and chain oil is pretty cheep as well.

I painted the wheels that are going on this. They came out sweet. Also got the roof rack back on, cleaned all the windows, and put my floor mats in. And here's another of the roof rack Now i need to get some lugnuts (they are the style with the flat washer on the bottom for these wheels), swap the tires, then lower it...

I got the rear wing back on, along with all of the emblems. I started painting the rest of the roof rack as well. I think I'm going back to my stock front bumper, but I'm going to move it in closer to the body, the stock 2x4 ones stick out so far. i plan on making it look like this one I have the 4x4 bumper guards, and the chrome bar that goes along the bottom. Should come out nicely.

Started working on some little stuff today. Before and after I also taped off the rear emblem (the center emblem is going to be all back because the chrome is junk) Windows in!!!

Rear quarters are all rusty on anything older than a 2005 up here, subframes are getting rusty/replaced in anything that old as well (I've seen both front and rear rust through). I've seen some newer (00-04 and older) legacys have holes in the floor around where the rear trailing arm mounts to the body. Did I mention I hate salt?

Toreador Red, love that color. It's the same color I repainted my 82 4x4 in (was brown to begin with) Looks like a DL from the pics, as it has smaller all black trim, no rear wiper, and no rh door mirror. Looks super solid, nice find -
Glass is in The chrome strips were left out of both the front and rear windows due to the being in very bad condition, and because the rest of my chrome has been deleted. I don't have pics right now, so that will have to wait until this weekend, having a new front windshield is going to be so nice!

This is a truly amazing build. You are doing a phenomenal job with your fabrication. I love the idea of a legacy rear break set up, it gives me ideas for my brat in the future. I also will add I'm very jealous of your lack of rust. That car is solid. -
The first time I used permitex, and it didn't hold, but I think that's because of my own doing. I didn't spray both the fabric, and the headliner so I was able to pull it off by hand. This time around I used 3m interior adhesive and sprayed the fabric and headliner in alternating patters. The fabric seems to be pretty firmly attached now. It's only been in for about a week so I really can't answer how well it's holding up. But I know some people that have had good luck with the glue i used in the past. Good luck with your restoration, post some pics up when you start

Welcome aboard. Always nice to hear from someone that's interested in saving an ea81! And as said above, we do love pics! -
Thanks! It's slowly getting there. Glad the interior is back in. It was driving my crazy having all of it stuffed in the back. I still have to put the roof rack on, glass in, side moldings on, put wood down in the back. I want to do something with the front bumper. Not sure what yet, I may go back to stock for a bit. After the body is all back together then I can do some other things I've wanted to do with it since the beginning.

I bought a pound of the flocking, and i think it was 16oz of the base. I only have used about half of it so far, but I've gotten into a habit of using it on everything. I got two applicators so I could have one ready to use when one was empty. Any more questions just let me know! I got the carpets back in today and most of the interior back together.

Finished dyeing the carpets they came out very nice!

Haha it's on my parents land (where I still live being a collage student) that was at the largest amount of cars we had at once, most of them being my uncles... I think it was around 36 if I remember correct. We don't have zoning laws in the town where I live. We are down to like 10 or so now most of which are Subaru parts cars,my nissan offroad rig, a porsche 914 parts car (for my dad's Subaru powered one), couple old VWs and that's about it. When scrap prices went up so did they.

Thanks! seems like not enough of these get saved. Especially out my way, I can't remember the last time I saw an ea81 on the road. Today I'm washing/dyeing the carpets. I tried washing them in the bathtub, but that was no good. I kept filling and draining it getting the same amount of dirt every time.... So in the washing machine they went. I put them on a very low spin cycle. So hopefully most of the dirt will get rinsed out and they wont loose shape. Dyeing them will happen later tonight.

Mounted my seats today. Just made some simple mounting brackets out of some thick steel strips I had around.

Messing around with an idea for the rear hatch My carpet is toast, and I really like this. Bamboo laminate flooring. I unfortunately don't have enough to do it all right now, but enough to know that this is going to happen. I'll be ordering another box later My inspiration A Peugeot 504

Very easy. Most just unscrew (on the ea81 anyway I've never done an ea82). I only broke one thing, and I can easily epoxy it (just a cover for one of the overhead handles). There were few push clips I broke while taking the liner out, but I have extras so they don't matter too much. Also being a wagon makes it easier. You can pull it out of the rear hatch. I helped a friend do an old saab 900 sedan and we had to take the seats out to get it out of the door

Thanks I'm very pleased with it!

This is going to be a good one. I traveled about that far to pick up my wrx, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Never have I seen such a rust free, solid car. Well worth the time and the trip. Plus many good memories along the way. Have fun on your trip, I'm looking forward to see what you do with this one.

Today I put my headliner in (after redoing the glue, the first round didn't stick :-\ ) I never realized how much of a pain it is to get these things in by yourself. I had to hold it with my head while putting on the trim around the outside. Once one side was screwed in place, I had to move to the other side, and hope it didn't fall out of the trim on the first side... Anyway it looks great and I'm glad I refinished it as it was pretty beat up. I have to get a few clips and it will be all good.

Yeah that may be tomorrows project. I most certainly don't want to be blinding other people. I may add an eyelid of sorts. I have some leftover factory paint we shall see what I'm able to come up with. That fluting would have made it even worse scattering the light all over the place. far from finished but getting there Edit* As 987687 has said these have a cut off built in. when it's on it's low beam, when it's off high beam. They just need some adjusting for right now. If they are still off after adjusting I'll be adding to them.
-
It's because they are aimed far too high, I'm working on it.... when I turned my high beams on they are up in the trees I'll be fiddling with them tomorrow I can see it better in person then my camera is allowing. This is against a garage door at my friends house. You can see the yellow halogen lights from my dad's 83 merc 300d on the right side. It's not perfect, but I think I can get it pretty good with some adjustments tomorrow.
