  1. I love my I-pikes. I've had them on a few different cars throughout the last 4 winters, and they have been awesome. I've only gotten stuck due to my own stupidity. The wear has been good for snow tires, and they are pretty quite on my newer stuff (I have them on a 92 legacy and my mom has them on her 99 forester) I have studded, because we get a lot of ice up here, so the noise is kind of expected, but as far as studded snows go I don't find them that bad.
  2. Alright, I cracked back into this one tonight. I need to get this running for my own sanity. I brought home the snap-on modis (scan tool) from work to use its Oscilloscope function. I have so far determined that the cam and crank signals are getting to the ECU, but there's no signal to the ignitor, fuel pump, or pretty much anything else because of this. Therefor my issue is in the ECu. It's programing, or there is a problem in the way it was put together (me) I'll be e-mailing Matt at DIYAutotune so I can get this figured out. I need to drive this next summer.
  3. Spent about 4 hours sanding and working one the rocker panels today. a little more bondo and we will be good to go. I'm afraid I may have to sand the hood down to bare metal, other wise the paint is going to come out uneven because the clear is all pealing along with the roof. I also have been working on rear mounts for the recaros, but the bandsaw switch broke off so I gave up on that. I also found out my door sill covers are going to work with the new seats. I was a little worried that the trays attached to them were going to get in the way of the seats. And I put the doors back on so the body work will be a bit easier. Sill trim in place Doors back on And it with my brat which I hope to work on this weekend. I need to get it running
  4. I got really lucky and my GT parts car had both the badges which are now on my L. Looks like it is 4WD from my pic. Car is looking good also! My uncle had one he sent to the crusher that was identical same color GT and all, it had my engine in it, and didn't even give me the opportunity to purchase it. I would have loved parts off from it for my current L
  5. I cleaned it. It was getting pretty bad inside and out.... I also undercoated it heavily to get ready for winter. You can see some of the grease on the rear quarters even
  6. Welcome. This is a great place, a ton of info on here. My first car was a 1982 Subaru wagon as well, I still drive it and it's probably my favorite car I've ever owned.
  7. Thanks I hope it will look good when it is all done, I'm hoping to get the paint done over my thanksgiving break from school, I'm still undecided on a color... There's not really much left to do, bondo, sanding, and disassembling the doors the rest of the way and that's about it. It's hard to picture wing mirrors on a xt, but I think they could have them if it was done right, and look good too!
  8. I think it's just the pic, He auto-x's it and uses it on track day. Has a full stand alone engine management, it's very nicely done. As far as I know it has the stock rear suspension, the front has been modified with coilovers, and the rear is to come, but he hasn't gotten around to fitting them yet.
  9. Very nice. Saw this on stanceworks. I like it a lot.
  10. Thanks i have too many right now I need to get this one done! Is yours on stanceworks? I just looked up a thread on here of yours, and it looks like the one on that site. There's a lifted tercel in that thread if I recall as well.
  11. I did it to mine, looking at these treads really makes me want to get motivated, and figure out it's issue so I can get it running.... Anyway five lug swap stuff. The first thread is me asking questions after buying parts, and making them fit, the other is my build tread, that may have some info as well. You don't have to use ea82 control arm mounts like I did, you can re-tapor the ea81 control arms so they fit the larger ej/er balljoints http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=118612&highlight=project+success&page=2 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117101&highlight=ej+brat+project I'm currently using no e-brake as I have EJ front breaks, but may do something similar to what Pooparu did in this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98829&highlight=pooparu+project+hatch&page=12
  12. Looks very nice! I have always wanted one for my brat, I need to get it running first, but after that I may start making one up, would look nice with my A-bar as well.
  13. Recaro test fit!!!! They give more head and leg room, and there's a bit more rear leg room as well. They are a little beat up, the bottom sections need recovering, and the bolsters on the passenger's seat are worn, but I think I'm going to have them recovered. It doesn't look like they will be all that hard to make mounts for, the two front ones line up already! Also a pic of my newest set of wheels, which appear to be painted the original cosmic blue of this car.
  14. We had this happen once at work, we broke the bell housing in a few spot and I think we took the oil pan off as well. There was no way we were getting that engine to turn again, we did get it out but it was a pain... I'd vote for a five speed as well the swap is simple I did it in a weekend with the help of my dad and a lift. Here in the NE parts cars can be found super cheep that run and drive well, but have no body left as you well know, the car is clean enough to be well worth fixing, and if you are unhappy with the auto now's the time just my .02
  15. I had to pick up some parts this summer for work at a dealer in my 1982 GL, everyone came outside and started taking pictures they asked me where I got it, if I wanted to sell it, and asked why someone so young was driving it They older guys remembered them, and the rust they had.... but that's about it. I wouldn't have a dealer work on my old stuff, they wouldn't even know about the front breaking system, yet alone how to change it. I'm good with all the local parts stores they know me, and help me find parts!
  16. That's about what I got with my last 92 legacy, but it had outback suspension, way larger tires than the 4eat wanted, and a roof rack. My "new" 92 I get about 25-27 with, but that's a five speed, no lift, and no roof rack, my wallet likes this one much better
  17. Nice Pete, glad the dash was good in that, I was worried when I saw the condition of the rest of the pickup! The red one I've seen on the other forum, it's in amazing condition, very nicely done. Can't wait to see progress on the wagon!!
  18. No it's not. I added one to my last impreza, as it was a brighton and didn't come with one. I had to take the drivers side door sill cover off, the drives seat out, the rear seat out, and flop the carpet to one side. The trunk I just had to move some of the covers out of the way back there. It was doable, just kind of time consuming.
  19. Keep at the good work! Don't let others get you down. It's your project after all, and it looks like it's coming along very nicely. I'm also very interested on what you find out with the rings, sounds interesting and very useful info, I could have used it a few times myself. Definitely keep us posted on your findings.
  20. Thanks! I don't know how I missed this, I've been following this tread because it's amazing . The EJ swaps getting there. I'm still having trouble with the ECU, but I'm hoping to get to it on my next break off from school, plus I have another project in the works
  21. Those seats are about the worst things in the world for your lower back, I made the mistake of swapping them into my last 1992 legacy, I think they caused some of my back problems... I have sold that car, and have another 1992 legacy. This one however I replaced the torn up seats with 02 wrx seats, Made the biggest difference in the car out of all the things I have swapped into or out of it. They should be just about bolt in too, all I had to do was swap the seatbelt buckle, other than that they were bolt in. Do be careful though, as mentioned the newer seats have airbags in them. They do make you sit a bit higher as well, which I like a lot.
  22. This is such a great thread! I'll contribute My 1982 Gl wagon, was rustier than you would believe when I got her, she's getting that way again now, but still looks good!
  23. That is the problem isn't it? for me it was easy the brat wouldn't run (still doesn't )
  24. Would look very nice like that! I see it came with the wheels we never got here, those are the ones going on the wagon correct? I need to get back on my brat project so I can't tell you, that you have been taking too long on one of yours :-p
