Alright so I got some parts in today. My wheel spacers came in but the idiot that measure them, made them a bit wider than the front, but I don't think it's going to be too big of a deal. It will also help when I lower the rear, and add some RA mud flaps

Something Unusual (1958 Goliath)
1982gl4 replied to 1982gl4's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I know about the jugs and the seals, I have NOS seals not sure about the jugs though, If you end up needing some I may be able to spare a couple but I would have to look and see what I have first. It's been a really long time since I taken inventory... I'm not sure if I have ever seen the Euro headlamps on an Express. Although I have seen an express van in person and found it very cool. But as usual with any Goliath the engine was apart in the back -

I have actually done a bit of work to this. I have a block all apart, and I may send it out for machining, it would be cool to have it running on it's "original" engine. I have enough parts to put it all together and a bunch of gasket sets and such. Even the factory books so we will see. I can take some pics of the engine all apart. I have no plans to sell this at this point. It was given to me by a long time family friend, and he would like to see it on the road again. So that's the plan after my current projects. It is very hard to come by them in good shape/untouched this one is very good for where it was it also has the rare bucket front seats, and some other rare options as well. Thanks! It's pretty cool, and very unique to drive! -
I have one in mine, I'd be glad to take a picture at some point (I'd have to clean out the back first...) I don't know anyone on here that makes one, but If you got some similar material, It would be very easy to make it just covers the floor, and has cut outs around the jumpseat mount.

Sure thing. I'll do it as soon as I can!

They are from addco. It took them a while to get to my place (a few weeks) but the kits look very well built. I contacted an ebay seller ( I think it was never enough performance or something like that) that has the them, and got the pair for $250 shipped! The front is wicked heavy, and the rear, well it will have one now hahaha

Okay so I have all the fluids in now, and after dealing with a massive fuel leak I think I have everything sorted out. Right now I'm trying to program my MS, and I have no idea what I'm doing. There's a lot to learn here. Hopefully I can get it running in the next few days!!!!

I agree with GD, and bheinen74, the early legacy's are some of the best cars you will find. Not only the engines, but the rest of it as well. They go forever, both of the ones that I owned had over 200k, all original drivetrain. They seem to last a lot longer than any of the newer subaru's I've had.

Some updates! Wheel adaptors are on the way I ordered them this week. My sways are in, but don't fit due to my exhaust. I'll fix it when I can get it to work after it's running I can either space the sway down, or move the exhaust. Not that big of a deal either way. I added a place for my temp sensor from the ea engine. I also finished up my fuel lines and it has a fuel pump now. I just need to wire it. after that fluids will be added, and I will then try to get it running. I just have to do some vacuum lines and then TUNE. I can't wait The rear sway! The front My fuel pump/mounting bracket using Mercedes radiator mounts and my radiator hose adaptor/ temp sensor

Alright so i have internet back some updates! All the wiring is DONEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I even hooked up my fogs I got a wide band o2, with a controller And put my better wheels back on, and got new lug nuts. This week I will be getting wheel adapters for the rear that are both hub and wheel centric, and try to get it running i gues

Wiring is all done. I need to hook up my fuel pump, and program the MS, and she should be ready to run. I'm ordering wheel adaptors for the rear to get them spaced out to match the front. No word on my sway bars though calling them later today to find out where they are. I would post pics, but I have no internet at home, and wont for like another week. I'll update when I can...

I hear you there I have been working on all sorts of projects and working full time otherwise, it's hard to finish up my own stuff. Can't wait to see the bumpers finished they look like they are built extremely well.

Lifting my 93 LSI wagon (not as easy as it sounds)
1982gl4 replied to patinoly's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Both my 92's had the right spring perches, not the cone shaped ones oddly enough, maybe been swapped out I know the LSI had been as it no longer had air struts... Anyway I agree, buying used struts is like buying used underwear. All the ones I've had leak, and are no good. Best just to start out with good (new) ones so you aren't doing the same process again down the road in six months wishing you had just started off with new parts. Been there. Mine even looked great when I started the swap but went bad after just a few months. As for the springs I used the outback ones in the rear, and due to my fronts being broken on the OBW I started with, I used the stock ones in the front off from my 92 legacy. As stated on the earlier models the abs has a separate bracket so no need to worry about those. Regardless the end result was good. This is also before the rear trailing are brackets mentioned before were added. The rears were close to the body, but no rubbing occurred. Unfortunately I forget the tire size and can't look as I have now sold the car. -
Ebay/Ground Control Coil overs on EA81 Front struts?
1982gl4 replied to aaronxs400's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
They told me that usually they don't brake up sets, but in rare cases, such as mine, they do. I think the price was around $250 (can be well over $400 for all four) if I recall??? could have been a bit more, for actual ground control, not ebay knock offs. Again this was for the legacy struts I had in my brat not EA struts of any kind. I thought it was fare(ish) considering the prices of good coilovers. I was lucky and found some k-sport coilovers out of a wrx that had been wrecked in the rear before I made the commitment to buy. Looking back I would have gone for the cheeper ones as there would have been no real advantage of paying that much more for them. I for sure wouldn't if I didn't know they were going to fit. -
Ebay/Ground Control Coil overs on EA81 Front struts?
1982gl4 replied to aaronxs400's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yeah I did Oh well, i knew I had that coming. I'll keep my mouth shut... I can tell you I got ahold of a rep from the actual ground control company (not ebay brand) and they were willing to sell me just two as the old gens obviously only have two struts. I also feel like there was a thread on here about coilovers on old gen's... but it may have been just for the camber plates. -
Ebay/Ground Control Coil overs on EA81 Front struts?
1982gl4 replied to aaronxs400's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I would think that it's doable. Not sure what it would involve. I looked into doing it on the lego struts I had retro fitted into my brat (updated front suspension/nothing left stock) but it ended up being cheeper just to get some EJ coilovers I found a pair for $50. But I would think the most you would have to do, is modify the existing lower spring perch if that from what I have heard from other people on other forums they are very easy to install. -
All the wiring that's left after the last week of working on it! And I had some fun too
-
That actually went pretty well! The MS now has it's firmware installed, now I can finish up the fuel lines, a little bit of wiring, and then start tuning

1983 1.8l Fuel Injected Tubo Wagon
1982gl4 replied to tomd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with GD. A stock ea81 radiator should have no problem cooling an ea81t. I had a normal radiator in mine, and the little I drove it it worked fine. Although now that I think of it I ran in to a problem with the fan on the water pump hitting the edge of the radiator. So instead of using that set up I had two electric fans on mine with my own relay setup. It worked much better then the old fan on the water pump anyway. -
No kidding it's been gathering dust since october :-\ It looks really good when it's all cleaned up, and I was thinking that for the bed liner. I plan on having it professionally done. As far as updates on the project I'm trying to upload software for the MS as of right now... We will see how this goes....

I was thinking about leaving the ea81, but I kept having issues with it (something was up with the fuel system it kept leaving me stranded all the time), so this happened As for paint, I did that last year, so nope. I may repaint the engine bay, and do a bedliner, but that's about it. I like leaving it semi stock. So it looks kind of like a sleeper. As of right now, most people would think it was a Brat with fog lights, and that's what I'm going for
