  1. I will let everyone know how it runs when it's together that's for sure! As of today headers!!!!!!!! And my dad built hoses for the radiator, but I didn't get any pics. I also tried to bleed the brakes, but something happened (I have no idea what) and the master cylinder no longer wants to work so I think I'm going to retro fit a legacy one is as I have a spare and don't have to pay for it!
  2. That's such a good idea! I definitely want to know how that turns out. I would love to do something like that to my Brat someday after I finish up the current swaps.
  3. Looks like the xt has lived out it's days The Runabout is looking good! Can't wait to see it with a full five lug!
  4. I believe the xt-6 (someone chime in and correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't really have that much more stopping power the rear brakes are almost identical to those of a four lug rear disc, and I don't know about the fronts as I have never dealt with them . Many people on here are running stock brakes with larger tires, and a 2.2 swap. I would maybe get on the off road forum, and ask people on there if they have a hard time stopping. I think you would be surprised by how much just a rear disc set up would help. I just went for the legacy front brakes do to a much larger than stock engine, and swapping the legacy hubs made it easier for me to put the legacy trans in because the CV's would have the same spline count inside and out.
  5. As of tonight this is all the wiring I have left! I need to hook it to power, hook up the fuel pump (along with instal it and new lines) hook up the coil and the IAC to power, and then I have to figure out how to program this thing with my computer.... I still need to hook up these relays I grabbed from an EJ harness I had kicking around. And this is pretty much the whole harness so far. I'm going to wrap it up after I get it running (the wires in the battery box in the bottom left corner of the photo are extras)
  6. Not the SVX that is newer gen and will not work. The xt6 is your best (and only) bet if you want five lug and four wheel discs (again hard to find and pricey) But some fab will still be needed. Here is my thread on how I did this http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=118612&highlight=swap%2F As of right now I don't have an e-brake because I upgraed to legacy front brakes and the xt-6 still has one on the front like the brat. I'm not sure if the xt-6 has larger front brakes or not as I have never worked on one, or owned one. Also you don't have to use those mounts in my thread that were welded on. you could also change the tapor for the control arms on the brat to fit a five lug ball joint. There's also the 6 lug swap you can do some searching for that. It's much less work then the five lug swap. There should be a lot of threads on it. It will let you fit toyota, chevy, etc. 6 lug wheels. but you will be keeping the stock brakes with this upgade.
  7. Alright. So far I have found the middle one on the IAC is power so that one can be crossed off from the list.
  8. If by fit you mean a bolt in modification. No. If you want to do a tone of fab work and make mounting points, rear strut towers, and add some sort of fender flairs to keep the wheels from sticking way out. then it's doable. But it is NOT a bolt in modification. It may need a custom drive shaft built as well, and the fuel tank will have to be moved/replaced. It's a ton of work. I have talked with the member that did that WRX pickup and he said that he would never do it again.
  9. Hey guys I'm doing a mega squirt conversion on my EJ (frankenmotor) and I need some pinouts for some parts. The first is the three wire IAC. I pretty much just need to know which one is power the other two don't really matter as I can change the output with the computer, a three wire coil, and the other is the igniter (five wires going to it). All stock Subaru components of from a 1997 2.5. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  10. Nice Ride! I envy that yours is a five speed. I think I'm going to swap mine this summer when I'm driving my old gen stuff. Anyway for a little added power in mine I had a cat back exhaust made at a local muffler shop, and I drilled two fairly large holes in the bottom of my air box for a little more flow the two actually made a surprising amount of difference. I also have the outback struts in mine, and love that conversion!
  11. Finding parts can be a challenge up our way. This forum will help a lot in getting parts. Just post up what you want in the wanted section, and go from there. Shipping can be expensive because most people on the forum live out west, but it's well worth it, the parts they get are in much better shape than the ones up here (if we can find them). I was lucky enough to have someone give me a pair of compete jump seats here locally seat belts and all!
  12. It will fit, but with a LOT of modification. Like a solid month of fab work there's a brat on here using the sub fames out of an impreza. They have a different track so the fenders will have to be widened. Here is a thread you should look at if you are considering doing the whole subframe swap. In my opinion, it's probably more trouble than it's worth. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96298 As for the brakes they did come on the GL-10's and turbos. I'm not sure if the came on all of them. But I haven't been around very many of those cars as they all rusted out up here practically before I was born. Someone on here will know for sure.
  13. Been doing wiring the last few days. So far I have hooked up a few sensors. I mostly have been working on how to hook up the coils and the IAC. these are the wires I have left. The ones in the old battery tray are for V8s or larger engines, and a few are for options I wont be using such as NOS, Boost, and launch control, although I may hook up Launch someday for fun And here are my E-bay fans it was around $40 for the pair!!
  14. I'm using Megasquirt 3 along with the Megasquirt 3 Xpander (makes it more tunable), and the separate control box is called Jimstim (the one with the LEDs, and this allows me to test the system outside of the car, while not hooked to the wiring harness. Info can be seen here http://www.msextra.com/doc/general/stimtesting.html and this is just instructions on how to put everything together, and how to set things up http://www.msextra.com/doc/index.html I worked on it some tonight. I hooked up three sensors Intake air temp, coolant temp, and the Throttle position sensor. I also started fitting my fans. If my internet was working I would upload photos but it's being really slow. I also found I can use my MacBook to run the tuning software, and got really excited about that, as I don't have to use my dad's work computer
  15. I got some work done today. I ran the harness inside the car utilizing the holes in the firewall where the AC would have originally gone. The megasquirt is going to be located on the tunnel behind the center console. I also sorted out all the wires and taped the ones that go to each sensor together, so it's all organized. Now I just have to connect everything. Doesn't look like that hard of a job! I'm pretty happy with the rate of progress so far! I have this week off (from school that is, but I have to work to pay for this project) so I'm hoping quite a lot gets done this week!
  16. Hey I have one of those too! Probably the best car I have ever owned, I need to do some work to it this summer, but this is what the paint looks like when it's all shined up. This one was originally gold, I repainted it Torreador Red because I loved the color!
  17. Yeah she's in pretty good shape. It's from cali, but has been sitting in VT for like 4 years. They thought the trans was bad, it turns out the shift bushing was pulled away from the floor. It runs amazingly, I plan on leaving it a 2x4 with the stock carb. I don't really know what color it's going to be. I want it to be different from the brat maybe dark metallic gray. Needs brakes and rockers. But for up here your not going to find one that's better! I will start it's own thread when I start to do work.
  18. Got it together today!! Now onto more work! I also may start another project soon aperntly $250 goes along way 1984 GL 2x4 five speed needs rocker panels, but should be a good summer ride that gets good MPGS!!!!!!
  19. You can put the brakes on but it is a lot of work. You will have to change the hubs as well, which in the front involves welding xt6 control arm mounts onto your existing sub frame or changing the taper on your existing control arms for the ball joints on a five lug hub. For the rear your best bet is to switch over to xt6 rear hubs and brakes which can be very hard to find, and pricy. I have seen people put a rear subframe out of an impreza in a brat, but it's a lot of fab work, including making there own strut towers. So long story short you can, but it would probably be more beneficial just to find rear discs for the four lug you have now.
  20. I got my capacitor in today! I was able to put it in no problem, and I was able to do some primitive testing on the board! I got voltage where I was supposed to and it was the correct voltage, so I'm pretty happy that it checked out okay! I also switched out my LEDS and put them in the correct way, I only broke one out of 13 so I guess that's not too bad. I'll pick up another one tomorrow, and hopefully get it all together!
  21. Awesome work!!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one that fixes up the rusty ones Keep us posted with progress and pictures! Any other plans after the rust is fixed?
  22. It's still in the building stages, and I noted that the steering wheel adaptor was just in the beginning stages. I'm going to be adding much more strength to it. right now most of it has been for mock up purposes. The drive shaft will most likely be sent out and built out of house, or we may build one our selfs out of one piece of tubing. Trust me I have no intentions of driving it on the road with that sketchy thing. Just money is tight, and I want to get it running and driving enough so I can move it around the yard again. I may add more to the trans mount as well. But I was going to wait so until it's mobile again so I can trailer it to work where I have a lift. I hate working on jack stands. Thank you for your concern, trust me I have though about all of the potential issues that you have mentioned many times and I'm slowly getting to them, just I'm trying to get it running right now.
  23. I believe Renobs has a five speed d/r in it right now, and by the sound of things it has been working really well! I have a feeling that you will want more then the 4 speed I have heard they don't match the 2.2 very well I have an AWD trans I just put in mine with a 2.2, I would tell you how it goes, but I don't currently have it running, it's still in the build stages. The convertion wasn't that hard, but the drive shaft will have to be lengthened, and the cv's will have to be shortened if you go that way.
  24. It would if I didn't keep messing up... So far I have broken a diode, and put all my led's in backwards. I now have to take them back out and solder them in the right way :-\ Again, a novice, but still eager to learn! The pay off will be well worth it, both in my education of this kind of thing, and in the final performance of the project
  25. I can't make it this year :-\ My friend is graduating from collage that weekend, so I need to be there. It will be the first year in the last 4 that I have not gone.
