  1. Awesome! Thank you. I'm definitely still a novice at this, so any pointers, are welcome.
  2. One down! I'm still waiting on the capacitor for the larger board, but I would like to think that this was a great accomplishment for tonight! This weekend I should be able to get the main board together. Then I will be getting it running soon! Plus I have all next week off to work on it For a description of what this board does you can go here http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/jimstim-v15-megasquirt-stimulator-wheel-simulator-unassembl-p-174.html
  3. My dad has a custom exhaust shop in Montpelier, although we don't do a lot of exhaust work any more. I'm sure he would be glad to make you one. I can get quotes from him if you would like. we have all the equipment in house to do it, and we have made our own y pipes and everything!
  4. Hey you live in the next town over from me, if that's Stowe VT! Sounds like you have a pretty good game plan as far as the rust repair goes. That's what I did when I fixed the floors, rocker panels, and bed of my Brat. Just make sure you seal it up well when you are all done welding!
  5. I had one...Then I changed out my cluster. A screwdriver found it's way right up through it in my brat I don't think I have ever been so mad. I filled it and put a dash cover over it so it's not very noticeable but many choice words come to mind when ever I think of it. My wagon still has one though
  6. I have one in my ea81 wagon out of a 97 legacy outback. I had to cut it down around the the wheel arches and the hatch latch, but other than that it fit's awesome!
  7. Oh and build instructions can be found here http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms3/build_manual.html
  8. Yeah it's a little intimidating, but after you start it's not too bad, I just burned the crap out of my finger and stopped for the day. The megasquirt kit is very well labeled, and put together, it's just very time consuming. I still would rather put it together myself then pay 200 more for it to come assembled. They said it would take between 10-18 hours to build it all, and that's without breaking anything :-\ Well it's going to have to wait until next weekend now. I may get it running next week as well! I have vacation!!!
  9. five hours later this is all I have. Plus a really burnt finger, and a broken capacitor that I'm going to have to wait forever for I still have about 2x as much to do on this board, and another 1 or 2 after this I don't remember. I'm feeling rather frustrated at the moment...
  10. I was told it was an ea82 adaptor when I bought it, but after I looked through some things, it seems like both of them are the same?? So must be the one I got was not for an ea82, but some other car. The spline count wasn't the same, so I made this one. I have it painted now and the wheel is one. I want to strengthen it a little more, but for now I can use it maneuver around the garage (as soon as the rack is hooked up)
  11. Replacing the whole rear quarter would be a much better job than repairing it with filler. It will last much longer, and it will come out much better. I would have done the same thing. Glad you decided to fix it instead of it meeting the fate of most WRX's and parting it out.
  12. Okay so today's progress. Got my new tires on (205/60/15's) I also made a wheel adaptor! It's not fully finished but a good start. Megasquirt And if you were wondering why the Brat was outside in the first pic, it's because my dad painted his Benz!
  13. Megasquirt is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (as in the box came in, not in the car) I'm pretty excited about it, if you can't tell I'll post up pics when i get home. I also go the new tires on today, the look and fit amazing. I also started making a steering wheel adapter using a pice of exhaust tubing, and a cut up ea81 steering wheel. It seems to be working well so far. Pics later tonight!
  14. My grandfather had an 84 turbo wagon. It got to a point where he would drive it, and it would do exactly as you are describing. He would get to where he was going , shut it off, and then it wouldn't start or it would start and run poorly. He found some bad solders on the ecu. He repaired those and it ran fine, just may give you a place to look... I stupidly tried putting that engine in my brat, and could never get it to run properly or it would for a while, and then die. (the wagon was so far gone, it wasn't worth saving) Good luck with the project! They ea81 turbo's can be a finicky engine, As stated I would check EVERY hose on that thing, and I would check the CTS (coolant temp sensor)
  15. Looks awesome, They always seem to rot out behind the fenders :-\ I'll of my ea82's have been that way, and a few of my ea81s. Looks like you did a good job repairing that! Paint looks like it came out really well from the pics. Keep up the good work and the pics!!!
  16. Looks like an awesome project! Keep us posted with pics and progress, I agree with tailgatewagon, an ej22 is a great engine to swap. I would probably go for the five speed d/r over the auto, they both have great off roading abilities, I just prefer manuals.
  17. +1 if you go through all the trouble of fixing/ replacing the rear suspension, just to have the rest of the car be just as bad, you will have a solid rear suspension, with nothing holding it in the car. If you have the other suspension still together, it would probably be just as easy to swap the whole thing out. If it's 4wd make sure it has the correct rear diff or put your current one into it if you decide the car is worth it.
  18. Here it is on another forum http://z15.invisionfree.com/Mv_Brat_Brumby/index.php?showtopic=178 That forum has been pretty dead lately, but you may have a better chance of reaching him there.
  19. If it where up here in the Northeast I would probably fix it, it's really not much worse than mine was when I started, but I most likely wouldn't go through fixing one *that* rusty again. I say parts.
  20. The spring plate doesn't fit on a stock ej strut, that hit's the towers when turning (I tried to run them in the brat at first, but decided the coilovers were a better choice) The mounts themselves (or at least the ones on my coilovers) fit no problem, and they look like they could even be a bit bigger and still work. It's just challenging to run the EJ stuff in an ea81 mostly because the control arms take a different ball joint so that will have to be modified either by changing the ball joint taper in the existing control arms, or by moving the control arms back and using XT6 control arms.
  21. Yes. There is enough room in the tower for a newer mount. I have ej coilovers in my brat and the mounts fit no problem.
  22. Thanks for the complement and I think I'm just used to seeing 4:11's under there, I looked at the chart Pooparu posted on here, and quite a few lego's came with them, guess I just never realized it before now. Always good info coming from this site! Thanks guys!
  23. By the looks of things it's a little over 3,000 miles away, and would take me just over two days of constant driving....
  24. Awesome! I'll check it out this weekend!
