  1. It's in!!! I also built a bracket for the hill holder cable as well, and put a new (used) starter in.
  2. Renob123 these are for you! I just got done welding and painting it so here are some shots of the new brat/ej trans mount I'll add some more after the paint dries and it's in
  3. You can do this. The first trans I put in mine was out of a 94 sedan. It would have lasted if it had been well maintained. I would also suggest getting a really good clutch. My stock one that I used the first time slipped from the moment I put it in. As for gearing I had 4:11's and that thing had some crazy acceleration, I wasn't really going for top speed. It's not like I'm going to drive 150 mph anywhere.
  4. TheLoyale That thing looks sweet with those tires! Did you have a chance to test them out yet?
  5. They feel pretty good. I never noticed much of a difference really. When I five speed swapped my svx, I use a cable the first round, and a hydraulic when I killed the first trans. It felt about the same and I never had an issue with it.
  6. The 97 outbacks I have had, had Hydraulic clutches, I'm not sure about the other legacy models of that vintage.
  7. VT is huge on salting roads cars up are lucky if they last 10 years. I would look for one anywhere but here!
  8. We need to know more info, Like the year, engine, etc. Probably most people on here will tell you not to get an aftermarket intake, as Subaru already did a great job with their factory ones.
  9. DO NOT BUY ONE UP HERE You will end up with a rust pice o crap that you can not keep ahead of. I buy all of my cars from the south now due to our massive rust issues. Lately the newest thing we are seeing, is the rear subframes rusting out of the car, even when the rest of it still looks good. There's a reason they are less money...RUST! If you buy a new enough one it will be fine, but all the second gen legos are rusty up here. Just a warning.
  10. It was more useless in the fact that it went through rod bearings and oil pumps like no one's business and for a free car it cost me a ton of $, but it went okay due to really good tires. The car was just bad, not it being FWD that part I didn't mind
  11. +1 on the Frankenmoter they seem like a good compromise between power and money add some cams and I hear they go good , I would tell you how it is, but mine is still in the building stages.... As far as filters I usually run a stock/stock replacement I have had issues with the Mass-air meters not really liking the oil on the K&N and that can = a lot of $ if they go bad.
  12. Get some good tire and you will be set! If I can make it through a Vermont winter with a Tercel (unpleasant FWD garbage) then you should have no problem with a FWD Subaru. I would have taken one any day over that Toyota.....
  13. I have never liked the all-terrains that much, they are great for sand/dry dirt. But they aren't very good as soon as it gets wet. I have some that are about half tread on my Nissan that I off road with, even with welded front and rear diffs, it's very limited in the wet. However when it's dry the thing will go anywhere! At full tread they aren't that bad, but I like the mud terrains much better.
  14. I needed a shift linkage for my brat project so....
  15. Nice impreza, I loved my coupe! Sounds like you have a good project planed. There's a ton of info and great people on here. Welcome aboard and enjoy!
  16. You will also have to measure the distance while it's closed. If the struts are too long they won't allow the hatch to close fully in the down position.
  17. +1 on leaving a stock intake on it. I put one on my wrx (a high quality one no less) and It just sucks in dirt. I'm putting the stock one back on as soon as it's out again this spring.
  18. Be careful in assuming anything with these cars mine only had three gears, 1st, 2nd, and reverse. 3rd and 4th were none existent in my car when I got it :-\ Just a heads up! However, it's great that you got it running! I love these cars, and it's awesome that you ended up with two of them! Keep up the good work and keep us posted! Cheers!
  19. Yeah that's the plan, someday it will be back on the road. It just needs a lot more work then both my ea81 wagons, and my brat, so it's RUSToration has been pushed back until I have those done (hopefully by the end of this summer) I'll most likely post pics of the process if it is alright with administration on here, due to the fact I don't really have another community to share this rare car with!
  20. I eyed it up the best I could I used the brat drive shaft and a floor stand to hold it around where it needed to be. There looked to be quite a bit of clearance around it. Maybe the Hatchbacks had a different tunnel? I wouldn't think so being the both had the 4 speed d/r. Anyway it seemed to fit alright I will have to do a little more to it, and it's just bolted on to the trans right now two bolts and it's out again. I wont be able to finish it until next week now as I have to go back to school. I'm hoping I can get a driveshaft made up soon. I have a place willing to do it. Looks like the brat one needs to be lengthened a bit. I haven't done the measurements yet, but I'll let everyone know buy how much when I do!
  21. I use bar and chain oil to undercoat all of my stuff, that works pretty well. Great progress! Keep up the good work!
  22. +1 to this, Mine was a stock N/A engine and the first five speed trans I put in had over 200k on it (it was just a "lets see if this works" kind of thing) well it did work until about 500 miles later I had ruined an outback clutch and the trans started to sound like a chainsaw. I then swapped in a bigger clutch and a newer trans, I also swapped it to a hydraulic clutch set up. Never had a problem after that ( I also was getting in the mid 20's for mpg's! I didn't think that was too bad for a 17 year old with a 230 hp sports coupe!) I will tell you if you want to put a standard in it the biggest pain for me was the peddles. I found the easiest thing to do was just take the steering column out to get to them as the column runs between two of the peddles or something like that if I remember correctly. Just make sure you don't turn the wheel after the column is out, clock springs are expensive :-\ Sorry for the long rant! Anyway looks like you have two very nice cars. Keep us posted! Cheers
  23. Yeah knowing the ea82t's it could most defiantly be a head gasket, but the thing looks like it's in very good shape, then again where I live I have only seen one XT because they all rotted away. If it wasn't across the country I would snatch that up for 500!
