914 is the way to go my dad has one swapped with an EJ25 DOHC and a early legacy fwd five speed trans! The thing is amazingly fast! It's really nice to drive too, except the shift pattern is completely backwards -SB
-
Some more work done. mostly on the subframe. It has an EA81 Turbo PS rack in it now, and I'm going to use the ea82 lines. Anyway here are some pics I'm using the ears off from an ea82 subframe as well so I can use the xt6 control arms
-
Well I got the ears welded on today and am pretty happy with the result! You also don't have to use the EA82 radius arms they were the same length, just a little thicker. I just used the ones that were already on the brat and they seem to fit just fine!
-
A lot! rear five lug on my brat, refinished alloys for it, working on the subframe right now tying to get ea82 control arms to fit it, got an AWD trans, got the franken motor somewhat together (still need to do the timing belt and bolt the intake on) I also had to change my radiator hoses on my 92 legacy after I had a bit of a steamy mess one night. (I probably should change them before they explode next time )

Rarest Old-School Subaru Part or Option?
1982gl4 replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's factory!? My 82 wagon has one of those, I thought it was just something somebody stuck on there! -
So putting on the rear trailing arms will give me no added width? So i will have to run wheel spacers? Is that what you are saying? Also with the stock torsion bars will the coil overs make the rear way to stiff or will it be ok? Also I have taken off the front control arm mounts and am going to fit them to my ea81 subframe today! Maybe it will be on all fours again by the end of the week! -SB

I saw one one ebay a couple of years ago that was perfect. It was indeed real! They also had this in Europe The "Country Living Edition" This is number 78/100 ever made! -

These wheels. I have only seen a couple of other sets. Love them on both my Brat and Wagon -

From what I remember (I haven't driven it in 2 years) of my 2x4 1984 wagon, it's geared very tall. As already stated it's pretty much impossible to pull any hills in 5th but it does get really good milage -SB -
Thanks Everyone! I think I'm going to move the mounts back, I'm doing this because I would like a little wider front end as I'm going to be using EJ CV's and I won't have to cut them down quite as much. I have an EA82 as of right now that I was planing on turning into a off road rig, but if need be the brat will get whatever it needs off from that. I also have a power steering rack retrofitted into my brats subframe as of right now so figuring out tire rod ends and such shouldn't be that hard even if I do have to put the ea82 rack in it.

Factory EA81 Bumper differences?
1982gl4 replied to aaronxs400's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh yeah forgot about that too, mostly because the chrome bumpers were rotted and really bent on my 82 4x4 wagon haha! I just made some tube ones they look pretty cool I even got the stock ends to fit! -

The top one is 4wd the other one is 2wd. For some reason they changed them between the two, they also have a differnt mount to the car. -SB -
The rockers are so rotted it would break in half I'm actually toying with some ideas right now, I'm thinking tube doors and bumpers!
-
Haha I didn't catch that. Usually I'm pretty good about my grammar. Good for a laugh if nothing else!

Yeah I made the bumpers both front and rear out of tubing! I think it has 170k on it now, I don't drive it in the winter here because of the salt used. It was originally from Wyoming, moved to New Hampshire, and now is a Vermont car! Also thanks for the compliments! -SB -
I started taking things off my 87 GL parts car Then I put some pugs I had lying around on it and I got to say even in the winter no doors is the way to go! This car is amazing off road and scary as s*** on the road someday i should put break lines in it so it stops

it looks like from the pictures you car is a gold color. They had two colors that were similar to each other that year but only one of them was metallic. So if you car is metallic the name of the color should be Astral Gold Metallic, and if it's not it's Harvest Beige. (I looked the up in one of my 1983 dealer brochures) -SB

There should be one right under the hood on the radiator support. And I can still get the paint at my local auto parts store, They have to mix it for me but two of the stores we (the auto shop I work for) do business with can even put it in a spray can for me! -SB

Got the engine back together for the most part and just waiting for a few more parts for that! I also ran into a problem with my five lug swap my radius arms don't seem to be right :-\ any suggestions?
-
I started doing my five lug conversion on my ea81 ( 86 Brat to be exact) I bought some control arms and rear hub, rotors, and calipers off from an xt6 from a very helpful board member! I did the rear no problem last week . When I went to do the front this weekend I drilled out the cross memeber due to the xt6 having a larger diameter bolt, bolted in the new control arms, and found that my radius arms are short :-\ They also seem to be a little off center Am I doing something wrong? Do I need need more parts if so what do I need? radius arms from an ea82 or an xt6? Any ideas would be much appreciated. -SB

That would look cool! I actually planed on doing a paint scheme similar to that on my gl (2wd :-\ )wagon! Here's my 82 after a ton of work I hope to get a five speed in it this winter after I finish my ej swap in my brat! -
Yes the engine in your car should be an being an EA81 if I'm correct. That's what most people referred to that body style as. There are sooooo many things you can do to these! Lift them, swap the engine, fuel inject your current engine, the list goes on pretty much forever. You have come across an amazing resource for your car the people on here have an abundant amount of information and knowledge!

It would be quiet a bit of work due to the wiring, your car is an obdII and the legacy's 2.2 turbo was an obdI harness, it would be a lot of cutting and splicing. They are really good engines though! Also nice progress I though my 92 legacy with outback struts sat high! And + 1 on bigger tires! -SB
