I love them! They make it stand out a bit (to a Subaru fan anyway) You have a really nice car!! I can't wait to see what you do to it! I actually have a lot of those same upgrades planed for my Brat!! Should be a fun project
-
What an amazing project! My Brat is getting some of these upgrades real soon!

There's an adjustment on the front struts right below the springs, but adjusting that up will mess with the front camber, and your front tires will wear faster, but I did it to mine and it looks pretty good. That will lift the front some to even it out.

So I have been working on my 86 Brat forever now, and I'm in the process of upgrading everything on it. I have seen that some people on here have been putting new gen. struts and spindles with the brakes in the EA style cars. I was wondering what I have to do to put these parts in my car? I have a complete donor car (2000 Impreza) I know that the CVs are different but the Brat is getting an EJ swap with the AWD five speed this winter, and it doesn't really need to move (i'm not driving it and it stays in the garage.) I know they have the same style ball joint, but does that have to be changed out? And what about the strut mount does that just bolt on to a new style strut, or do I have to modify anything? I was also wondering what is involved in a rear disk brake swap with a five lug conversion in the rear, off from a newer legacy ( i have a 1997 Gt wagon as a donor for that), If those cars are not going to work I have a ton of other parts cars ranging from a 94 legacy gt to the 2000 Impreza. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Shaun

Figured I'd say hello

Welcome, this is an amazing resource for anything Subaru, I'm sure you will be able to find the right one if you take your time! I have owned both of those cars! I sold my Tercel 4x4 to pay for my 82 Subaru wagon, and have to say I liked my tercel, but I LOVE my Subaru. I lost a little in mpg, but it was well worth it! These cars are amazing you will not regret getting one! -
A much better buy, even with a wrecked TV. I have had old Toyota pickups, and I feel like my old Subarus are much better to drive on a day today basis and are easily as capable off road as a stock yota!

Usually thats what I do, Unfortunately this year I don't have the funds due to being a new college student so this will be the ONLY year the wrx gets driven in the salt. Last year I had a Subaru Brighton coupe with almost 220k on it I beat all winter long! Way better then the Tercel I had the year before (rebuilt the engine 2 times) So much for Toyota reliability. And 500 up here buys you a rusty POS with a good drive train that you need to spend 3 months of your life splicing new rear quarters on it (off from a 4-door because you can not find another 2-door) and tracking down doors because you stupidly bought a 2-door not realizing how hard it is to find decent ones
-
Here is a pic of the Wrx! I only drove 1600 miles round trip to get it (NO RUST AT ALL)

Thank you I Love my wagon. I think it's my favorite Subaru i have ever owned! It gets the most attention as well! (just because of the color!)
-
Yeah I have been going to that show for around 4 years now, I drove the brat this year, and the wagon the year before! Hopefully the brat will get a 2.2 this winter so I can make it all the way down without playing highway repair man :-\ That or the wagon is going to get the five speed swap so it's not revving 4000 rpm all the way down! Thanks for the compliments!

Hey I'm Shaun I live in VT, and at the age of 18 I have already owned over 10 Subarus. I've been a lurker for a while, and have recently started posting. I have already found tons of useful information. This site is an amazing recourse for anything Subaru. Thank you so much for all the help already, and I look forward to working with all the amazing people on the USMB! Here are a few shots of my current projects! (the old ones anyway) I also have a 2002 WRX as my daily driver!

Hey Jerry, I was supposed to call you about a five speed conversion in a 82 Gl wagon a while ago. I'm still very interested, it just has been my first couple weeks of college so I have been swamped! I will try and call you later this week, more likely this weekend. I also was wondering what you need from me for this conversion?
Thanks,
Shaun

Lets See some Clean Brat's!!!!!

My life in car form! -
I have seen CV joints cause vibration in a few Subarus (most of them newer) Another thing I would check would be the U-joints in the driveshaft even though that is not in the front of the car, I have seen them cause some nasty vibration.

Five speed swap in a ea81 ?
1982gl4 replied to 1982gl4's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What clutch would you recommend using? Would one out an ex turbo work? or should I just stick to one out a N/A car like the ea82 GL? This is kind of the only thing holding me up i have most of the other stuff for the swap in a pile already. Also can i mod the 4x4 shift lever assembly to work on the five speed? -

Okay cool because i have a few of those out of my parts brats and other cars! Right now I'm still using the car as my daily driver, so as soon as the snow falls it will be inside getting a five speed for next summer!! -

I have a 1982 Subaru Gl station wagon with the ea81 still in it. I came across a 4x4 five speed out of an ea82 with the high and low range. So far I have noticed that the transmissions are a different length, and if I remember correctly the clutch is different as well. So what is really involved in this swap. (be honest it wont scare me) I have done a five speed swap in an svx so theres not a hole lot that I feel I can't do, and if I have to make a driveshaft so be it! I do a lot of interstate driving now and feel like my Gl is going to explode turning 4000 rmp in 4th gear :-\ (my car is already a standard)

gas tank leak, replacement???
1982gl4 replied to what huh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't think that is the right tank, it looks like the one out of the ea82. if it is out of an ea82 it doesn't fit between the rails the brats tank originally sat, I believe it's quite a bit wider. Also the brat's fuel gauge sending unit sits in the back of the tank. I got a recoating kit for my tank in my 82 wagon and it has worked awesome so far, if you don't have a ton of rust on the inside or huge holes it can be done pretty easily. -

Yeah she was pretty rough hard to believe it's the same car! And even harder to belive you can make four door rear quarters fit I guess thats what you get for having over 200k in VT! -

Mine had A/C, I think it was an option, I had the original receipt to the car, I cost a little under 14,000 in 97. No power window's, locks, cruse, trunk release, tach, passenger mirror, it didn't have anything! (mine had all of those except the cruse when I was done with it) it was also getting upward of 230,000 miles!!!! for jokes here's what it looked like when i got it for $100 -

It's a 97 so it came with that bumper, but the wing was swapped from a RS, and the wheels are off a 97 legacy gt, don't let its looks fool you its a 1.8 with no options at all! I wish i still had it...
