A lot of people over here seem to place them there. Some of our WRX's had them placed there as an option from the dealers as well. I like it due to the visibility, but it blocks some of my fuel gauge which bothers me some. Next summer when I get it back out I plan on adding a couple of gauges so I may move it somewhere else. Funny you should comment on this today. It was the first day in about 6 weeks I've moved this car due to the salt we have on the roads this time of year. it was -10 and the car started right up (Even more amazing my 72 VW bus started up too!), it is now sitting it its winter parking spot awaiting spring.

Just picked up this 97 legacy from oregon.Thing is crazy clean. Needed a ton of work All new timing belt stuff ATF Oil change Front and rear diff oil coolant E-brake shoes and hardware rear calipers, rotors, and pads front rotors, and pads legacy GT hood (the stock one had lightning bolts painted on it) snow tires buffed it fixed exhaust manifold studs stripped out of the head I'm sure there's more, but thats what I can remember for now.

Thanks! It does sit a bit higher than stock, not really sure why. The wrx struts were just supposed to have increased dampening over the stock legacy ones, it improved handling by a lot, and sits about an inch higher now. Got around to fixing my rust on the tailgate. Looks much better now even if it is spray paint. We also got some snow so I had a bit of fun on the way home the other night. I also picked up this 97 legacy from oregon. Thing is crazy clean. I already put and timing belt stuff new brakes, tires, I also had to put a used radio in it as the P.O. cut it all out, including the wiring... It may go up for sale as I have no use for it too many cars as it is.

I've been gluing them on with 3m weather strip adhesive, it seems to work very well. Plus new door seals are crazy amounts of money. I had a customer want new ones at work a year ago, I think the bill totaled out around $350 or so.,,

Maybe this weekend I'll get to fix my own car.... I really need to fix the rust that has started to infest my tailgate. I also need to glue on some of my door seals, these cold mornings did in the driver's rear door.

Not sure about on the older impreza's but on newer ones the strut spacing in the rear is different in sedans and wagons So like this for :l wagon and : l for sedan. What did you pull the rear subframe out of? I know they made the wrx in both sedans and wagons over there long before we ever got to enjoy them, but using the wrong combo of struts/hubs can cause camber issues. I had a newer impreza wagon in last week that had sedan struts in the rear that caused binding, and some pretty bad noises.

Looks nice for around here! Looking forward to see what you do with it!

I want one of those tachs so bad! Great work as always.

They never made them for the early legacy, maybe overseas, but I'm not 100% on that. I fitted one to my 1992. It's off a 1997 legacy GT wagon, they came on a few outbacks, and I've seen them on L's also but few and far between. They can be a little hard to find.... I had to do some slight cutting around the rear window trim, and I used stainless countersunk screws to attach it so they would sit flush with the top.

This thing looks sweet man! Makes me want to get out in the garage (on a day I don't work 12 hours) and get back to work on mine!

Tucked away for winter next my dad's subi swapped 914, and my bug. Hopefully this winter I'll work on the five lug swap and get everything ready. The brat, and my latest project will be getting my attention for the winter.

It's what I've been using the last couple of years to undercoat cars with. http://www.fluid-film.com/ It's more expensive than the bar and chain oil many use up here, but it seems to work much better, and it is a heck of a lot better for the person putting it on too. Seems to work very well from my experience. I've been using it for my side business. After work I've been undercoating cars to help our customers make them last longer. Goes on easy, and it sticks pretty well, it does wash off eventually, but driving on some dusty roads will help make it stick. It stays in a liquid like state regardless of temperature or age. It actually frees things up amazingly well too. I had some lift arms at work sticking from all the salt we use up here, put it on once, and they are moving completely free now. Any questions about it just ask, I use it daily this time of year.

Well I went on my trip with this a few weeks back. I've been super busy and haven't had much spare time to come on here and update. Picked up another project and have been working 12 hour days for a while now.... As far as the trip went, all was well until I hit some traffic in NY turns out my cooling fans haven't worked for a while.... The car slightly overheated, gauge never pegged or anything pulled it over got it cooled off, and drove to virginia with the heat blasting My friend got me a universal fan which I put in the next day in North Carolina at my other friend's apartment. I had to pull the ac out, as it mounted on the front of the radiator, but that wasn't a big deal as it hasn't worked for a long time and it had no charge. The trip back was uneventful with the exception of the car burning a ton of oil. Now it seems to be burning even more a few weeks later. Looks like it may be time to build a 2.5/2.2 hybrid. I'm going to try and make it this winter with this engine and do something about it in the summer hopefully. Other than that I undercoated the rest of the car with fluid film, and swapped on my snow tires, good thing too we had about 4 inches of snow when I got up this morning!

Thanks! I was psyched to see your build as well. I'm going to be working on it this week/next weekend hopefully. I haven't done much as I purchased another project car (something non Subaru for once) so purchasing that and bringing home as taken up the last few weeks, plus I went to north carolina in there as well, so it's been a busy month. But now that things have settled down and the other car is home it's time to get back working on this.

Another Vermonter with an ea81! Nice build man!

I just replaced the contacts as mine were very worn, I didn't really have to dig into it more than that. I was getting the typical clicking while trying to start it. I suppose you could grease the ends of the armature and make sure the plunger is moving freely. Other than that I wouldn't really grease anything. I cleaned all connections for it as well which i'm sure helped, gotta love the salted VT roads. Old contacts Contact kit. New ones installed

Started getting my winter legacy ready for this winter, and an upcoming road trip. rebuilt the starter Installed all new idlers cog timing belt water pump cam and crank seals replaced broken timing covers air filter fuel filter new sections of fuel line changed the gear oil fixed the passenger seatbelt buffed the paint fluid filmed some of the underside for rust protection I think that's everything for now. I need to touch up some rust on the tailgate and it should be all set for a while to come.
-
Got the timing belt done, tune up stuff all taken care of and undercoated the front half of it. I also changed the diff and trans oil, and put a new fuel filter in. Took me forever to do the timing belt because the bracket for the tensioner stripped out and I had to come home to get another one. It was a good thing due to the timing covers all being broken, I was able to grab the spare set I had at home. It should all be set now. I'll I need to fix is the seatbelt and it will be set for the road trip! All new parts! Picture with the SS

Started working on this getting ready for winter/ an upcoming trip. I have a bunch left to do in the next week or so. But tonight I started by replacing the starter contacts, and buffing it as the paint was looking pretty sad. Very worn starter contacts Contact kit. New ones installed Cleaned up a bit, I have legacy turbo wheels on it for now as I have no need for studded snows for the trip I have planned. I still have to do the timing belt, plugs and wires, filters, all the hose clamps are looking rusty, radiator hoses trans and diff oil, touch up a couple of rust spots, and I now have to fix the passenger side seat belt as that stopped working the other day.
-
Flanges came in today! I drove my car in, with the exhaust in the truck so I got to put the turbo back on. Took some time as I had to mod all of the hangers, and add a section to the cat back, and swap the flange. I didn't have time to take a sound clip, but I will make sure to do that later. Sounds good. No drone, nice and quiet cruising, and sounds great when I get on it too.
-
Thanks! It was just me being a little disgruntled about my 21 year old car needing a few parts I haven't fixed the leak yet, as I'm deciding what to do for a power steering set up. It just seeps so I'm not super worried about it, it was just another thing to add to the list, speaking of which the trans noise is getting worse. I found a JDM V1 five speed local to me, so I'm going to look in to that, but I'm looking into some other options as well.
-
I'm still waiting on flanges for it before I put the exhaust on. They should be here next week. I also totally forgot I ordered this. Always cool coming home to car parts you didn't remember buying!

Picked up a Cobb cat back today! I need to get a flange so I can match it to my perrin down pipe. I can't wait to hear this with new exhaust!
