  1. Thanks! I really like this car, progress is kind of slow because of all my other projects, but I really do enjoy owning it, and so far modifying it as well. This does indeed have a lsd. This car was originally an auto, but it was swapped out with a correct 1991 ss trans and rear diff. The trans is getting pretty tired, so I've been looking into options for its replacement. Tomorrow I go to look at, and hopefully pick up, the cat back. I also purchased a JDM STI strut tower brace for it today.
  2. Hopefully getting a cat back for this sunday! I also lost my wipers on the way into work this morning it was fun in the pouring rain. I had to run them with my hand out the window. Luckily it turned out to just be a nut that fell off. All is fixed now, hopefully the lock-tight keeps it that way.
  3. Can't wait to see this painted and back together!
  4. I did something similar to that with my ea81. I used high quality spray foam for insolation for filler as my foam had cracked pretty badly, and then used some fiber glass over that and a small amount of bondo to smooth it. The problem with this is the old vinyl is very brittle. My dash has re-cracked right next to the areas I repaired last year due to the vinyl shrinking away from the fiber glass. I think in order to keep it from cracking the old vinyl would have to be removed completely. Maybe the method used above would work better with plastic welding, but I'm not convinced that it would. I will say the flocking I used looks, and functions great! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/121769-1984-gl-wagon-fwd-build/page-3
  5. I've always wanted to swap an old obs. I love these cars. Swap looks super clean!
  6. Took a bunch of stuff off this today. Started on the wire tuck. Luckily the harness is much smaller than that of my spfi wagon as it was cali emissions so i can run it completely out of the engine bay with the exception of where the lights are. I also started stripping the bay of rust, and unneeded parts, such as the old battery box. I'll be switching it to the other side like I did on my wagon. But for this I have a rusty ea81T battery bracket as a template so I can make a new box! Pretty bad rust in the strut tower, and the spare tire well. I'll be getting some paint for the bay this week, and hopefully getting everything welded up and looking nice. after that I can get it running!
  7. I got to work on this a lot today. I took out the whole ea81T harness, as there's no need for all that extra wring (more like fire hazard) I found the brat's old harness and trimmed that down. I took out a bunch of the A/C stuff, along with unused plugs to make the harness look neat. I just left what I would be using (at least on the engine bay side of it) I also got my new intake manifold on along with all the engine wring harness. Old ea81T cluster and harness gutted dash New intake manifold, and stripped bay. I think I may do a partial wire tuck like I did on my spfi swapped wagon. And the new (old) much, much simpler ea81 carb harness.
  8. I got some work done on this today. Painted the intake, it looks so much better than the old one on the brat now. I also did some light polishing to it, not that it will matter much, as I didn't do anything to the heads. I painted the fuel rails, along with the brackets for the manifold. Tomorrow I'll be bolting it all back together and putting it on the brat. I forgot to pick up a knock sensor, but the one off the 2.2 may be okay for now. I don't know how old it is, but I know the car has 300k on it, and I would like to just swap it out... I also got a new 02 sensor as I don't plan on using the wide band on this anymore. I think my legacy is going to get that.
  9. Today I swapped motor mounts. SO glad that I did. You can't really see it but the bushing in the pitch stopper is cracked and falling apart New part! I won't have to explane why these are bad. So nice to have the group N ones in place It is so nice working on this car. It is so rust free. I unbolted the heat shields from the manifold without breaking a single bolt! I also did a couple things I have been meaning to do for a long time. I swapped out the knock sensor, and the coolant temps sensor as preventive maintenance, good think i did, the temp sensor was all but falling apart. I also welded the trans mount solid, which I now regret doing. I worked great on my dad's swapped 914, but on this it makes too much noise, that and I think my trans has a bad bearing somewhere. It makes a ton of noise under load (it did that before the mount was welded, it's just amplified now)
  10. Does it not work on all speeds? I've seen the motors themselves fail. The brushes get thin, and stop making contact. If it dies out again, hit the bottom of the fan motor (doesn't have to be a super hard hit) Just enough to jar the brushes back into place and the fan will start up again. If it does start again it may need replacing.
  11. I've always just put up wanted adds, it's how I've gotten all of my xt-6 parts! Without goals none of my projects would be anywhere close to where they are now.
  12. I am using ej hubs. I'm re tapering the stock control arms so I can use the EJ ball joint in them. The rear I have to use xt-6 hubs, and I'm planing on using ej backing plates, along with ej rotors, and calipers, and converting it to a rear e-brake.
  13. I'll need those for the brat maybe. I'm going to try going all ej on this one. I picked up ej backing plates, from what I have read I can use those paired with the xt-6 hubs, and then all ej brakes over them.
  14. Still messing with the timing some, tonight I tried it with the connectors hooked up, I think that may have made a difference. Also checked the codes. So far I only have two, which both should be in there. 34, and 35 egr, and evap, now I just need to get some resistors for them. I also have started to gather a lot of parts for the five lug swap. I have front spindles now off a 97 brighton legacy, 1991 legacy turbo brakes, stainless brake lines, all the stuff for the rear, with the exception of e-brake stuff. I picked up new control arm bushings for it today, and I have a couple of leads to re taper the control arms. All I really have left to figure out is front struts, and tires, and I need to get a proportioning valve.
  15. Glad you figured out the issue. Old crappy tires are the worst. I've had issues with old tires on every long road trip I've been on. The old volvo we took 9200 miles in 10 days, lost 3 tires, we dubbed cooper life liners, life takers after that. And my legacy broke a belt in the lf in Nevada and started shaking like crazy.
  16. Good luck with the sale. You have done a great job, it's well worth more than the asking price. If I didn't have so many cars, I would consider shipping it out here, but I have way too many as it is. Hope it goes to a good home!
  17. At first it is a bit overwhelming with the whole harness in front of you. But you just start cutting things down that you don't need. Wipers, lights, radio, door wiring, the list goes on. Basically you end up with the connectors to the engine, fuel pump relay, ignition relay, and power and grounds for the ecu, power for the fuel pump, and the test connectors if you have an obd1 harness, or in my case the data link connector as I have an obd2 harness. I also started with a specific harness that I have been looking for. It's out of a brighton so there weren't many options to begin with, making the trimming much easier.
  18. Feels nice to be making updates on a regular basis. I got a lot done on this today. I pulled the old ms harness out of the brat, to make way for the EJ harness. I still need to put the stock carbbed harness back in, but that will happen soon enough. I took an intake off a spare 2.2 so i have an engine harness now, and also a non EGR intake. I disassembled that so i can clean it up, and paint it this week. I also took a tone of wiring out of the harness. I found that I can put the ecu in a similar location to the stock legacy one. The ecu case fits nicely on the passenger side floor, you loose a little foot room, but I don't sit on that side of the car Getting there. Probably 90% done with it. The pile of wire I have removed. The bay stripped of standalone The new intake. Passenger side foot well
  19. Looks great well worth saving! If it makes you feel better, it is in way better shape than some of the ones I have started with.
  20. Somedays I wish I only had 4 Subarus in the driveway....
  21. Alright so I'm getting really sick of the constant banging coming from my firewall (Stress on the pitch stopper) due to bad motor mounts. So I've ordered new group N motor mounts, and an upgraded pitch stop, I know they can increase noise, but I think it will be worth it. My trans mount is bad too, but I really want to upgrade to a 6 speed, so I'm holding off on that. Changed the oil tonight, every 3k like clock work. Noticed my power steering rack, and lines coming from the pump are all leaking. So now I need to do something about that. It's always something, but someday this car will be amazing...
  22. Great car, love these coupes, you don't see many of them (not that you see many ea81's to begin with) Any plans for it?
  23. My most recent purchase, a $350 auto brat, with 84k on it. It's pretty rusty, I ripped the rear diff hanger out of the floor doing some light wheeling. There's no floor, or rockers, but I think I can actually weld this back together enough to do some offroading with it... Bed is really solid for one around here.
  24. Started trimming the harness tonight. Seems to go pretty smooth now that I have done another one. I still need to get the diagrams from work for the ecu power and such. Headlights, wipers, radio, heater, and other dash stuff was removed tonight.
