The Maiden Voyage: SS Subaru
XT Fan replied to nicky nighteyes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh My! Sand and streams and.....OCEAN . That current must be something else over there. That is too scary to think about. The timely pics are wonderful. Glad that she started again for you too. Linda -
Where does the Justy owner fit in on this site?
XT Fan replied to Just a Justy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good question where does the New Generation Subarus start? Linda -
Hi all, I'm over here from the 'Older-generation' thread needing opinions on how your forrester has performed. Problems as well as how do you like it? I am trying to talk my Mother into buying one instead of the (ducking for cover now) Honda Element! She is looking into a 2003 model at around $16,000. I only have experience with the older Subarus and know that they take a lickin' and keep on tickin' (no pun intended). I would like to have this information from personal experience to be able to feel comfortable into talking her into buying the Sube instead of the Honda. Thanks for all input. Linda
-
That really does suck! I was rear-ended in my XT around the middle of May and I am still having problems with my back and neck. The lady that hit me did the same thing (fell asleep at the wheel). I still thank God that my Son and I were in a Subaru, any other car that size would have been an accordian. My little car was totalled too! I did buy it back at $110. Will be using parts to make another Sube run. I feel your pain with it being your Mother hurting and you're right she doesn't need this at her age! I have been seeing a Chiropractor 3 times a week since the accident and still will have a good and then a bad day. Problems sleeping and just doing all kinds of little things that I used to. I do hope she gets a good lawyer, because it will be a long time before she gets back to normal. Not to mention all the hassles with mounds of paperwork and trips to Dr. Tell her she is in my prayers. Linda

difference between GL and GL-10?
XT Fan replied to DL92SW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've had two 10s. 86 XT Turbo and 89 GL Wagon. They both had digital dash, power everything. Removable sunroof (XT) power moonroof (wagon). Both AT and AC and very plush. A couple of the nicest cars I have had the pleasure to be 'wrapped' in. I recently had the unfortunate chance to drive a 2003 Ford Taurus..........(this was rental after XT was smashed) totally 'foreign' feel after the comfort of the XT! Sigh......... Linda -
So far, the stories are false
XT Fan replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also, come down to the Middle Eastern Seaboard. VA. NC. We have Subbies here too and none too much rusted. Don't have as much problem with snow around here. At least close to the coast. -
When will it ever end?!
XT Fan replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey GoldDiggerRoo, I'm in VA too. How dare you imply that the 88 is OLD. Late '80's are all that I have driven. I believe the oldest was an 85. What part of VA are you in? I live in Norfolk, close to the Bay. Currently NO Sube, mine got smashed recently and I am waiting for my Husband to put another one together for me! Gotta love that:brow: . Linda -
We're not quite done yet sweet82. I didn't own my first subaru until 1995 and it was a 1987 XT-DL, 5-spd. Didn't even have a back seat! But I soon grew to love that car. It was quick off the line, handled well and great on gas. I moved on to an '89 GL-10T auto? and loved all the cushy features that car had. Ran into another deal on an '86 XT Turbo GL and really enjoyed that one too, till it got creamed earlier in May. I have never drived the XT6, but soon will as my husband has found one that needs some work. It is really hard to pick one, but my favorites are from the late 80's. I still haven't listed ALL of the Subarus that I have owned and remember each one fondly for different reasons. I will soon also have a 'new' 89 GL-10T wagon (love that sun/moon-roof) to drive and can't wait to compare to the XT6. Your work will have to wait until I get to drive that XT6! Linda

Advice on knocking noise 87 GL Wagon
XT Fan replied to jaywede's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've only heard lifters make a ticking sound, loud knocking sounds like something else? Moving, sitting still? Does sound increase with RPM'S? In gear, out of gear? -
I have found State Farm to be a very good insurance. At least the guys I deal with here in VA. When you have liability, it should make NO difference that your car is 'not the best' my xt was that way when I bought it and I just told them the body damage it had at the time. Mine was recently wrecked (not my fault) and they paid for rental car and issued check within 7 days of the wreck. They are now taking care of all medical and I bought my wreck back for $110. If your Mom has been with this company for awhile, you should NOT ask her to change to someone cheaper. I have had several different insurance companies over the last 30 (yes 30) years and State Farm has been the best. AND......when you stick with the same Agent for a number of years, you get personal service that NO Gecko (pun intended) can give you. I did that Geico thing for awhile, they generally are cheaper, but NOT better. Get in with a good company now while you are young and prove yourself (no speeding) you should not have to pay higher premiums later when you are on your own. If you prove yourself now under your Mom's policy, you should not be stuck later with high-risk premiums.

aftermarket websights
XT Fan replied to Rolloverbratboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try WWW.car-part.com By the way, I am parting out 86 XT Turbo except for engine and trans. And, I have another eingine from an 89 GL10T Wagon. What are you looking for? Linda -
Ok, Backing up here. Calebz, (hate to sound dumb here) what is FT4wd? I get the 4 wheel drive. But the only 4wd is the wrecked XT turbo! The XT6 is Automatic 2wd. I have to admit I miss the manual Transmission. The first XT I owned was a 5-speed. That was a fun little car to drive. Ever since I have had automatics.
-
Yeah Turbone, the wagon is Turbo, but someone changed tranny Wrong (not turbo). Doesn't have proper lines somewhere and makes shifting (auto) strange. Have to release gas pedal to force shift to next gear. From the XT Turbo, engine and trans is proper. What is benefit to change to XT6 Lugs? Linda
-
Here I am again. Because we are close to the Bay, we don't get much snow. The two Subarus my hubby just bought do not have rust (at least not coming through the outer paint). Don't know what underneath looks like! The XT that was just wrecked did have some minor rust problems. I still think we just did not get as many of them as the West Coast did. Linda
-
Oh No No NO! Coasts are NOT overrated. Either East or West We are the Best! Geeeeezzzz that almost sounded like a cheer!
-
Hey Goat, I spent many a summer in Hampton as a teenager. Grew up in VA Beach. I now walk across the road to get to the Ches Bay, just the other side of the harbor from where you lived. I would miss the beach too if I had to go inland. Linda
-
Ok guys what would you do? This is the recently wrecked XT Turbo owner talking. GL10T wagon runs but lifters clattering 3 spd. auto trans is Non-turbo. Swap engine and trans from wrecked XT...........or XT6 needs power-steering pump and rims. I am just having a really hard time trying to decide on which one to go for? I love the sliding sun/moon-roof in the wagon, but I love the look of the XT 6. I think both are 89 models. Hubby has already bought them both.....ARGGGGGH. Money is tight, time is not but I have to decide which way to go? I am interested in hearing any opinions either way. OR............many of you guys have more than ONE horse in the stable..............maybe I should ask him NICELY to fix both! Linda
-
Thanks for raising that question, I have been wondering the same thing Goat. I am here with you! I have to admit I don't do the Mods or offroading, but I bought my first XT 10 years ago and have fallen in love with Subs. My Husband is a factory trained Sub mechanic and he is the one who sold me on them to begin with. He is now helping me search for a replacement for the XT Turbo that was recently crashed. Gotta love that cheap labor. Linda

Sheet of Plywood hits my soob on the freeway
XT Fan replied to subieman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Glad you weren't seriously hurt. That is maddening and you know he had to have seen that plywood take off! With a load like that NOT tied down he should have never been on the freeway at all. I hope the police are able to track him down for your car's sake. Linda -
Thanks again guys and gals for the kind words and good ideas regarding getting what my Sub XT Turbo is worth from Insurance. I posted first over on the parts forum thinking I was here....... Anyway wanted to let you guys know that the Insurance is coming thru with 1,833 for the wrecked Sub and I opted to buy it back at salvage. I am planning to keep engine and trans for another Subaru! But, I will have a lot of other parts available. Shipping from Norfolk, Va. Linda

Trying NOT to cry over smashed XT.
XT Fan replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Hondasucks.....how much do figure shipping would be from Oregon to Virginia? Baccaruda, thanks for those tips. I will do more research like you suggest. Sweet 82, glad you are personally covered. I bet that person is sueing both you and the other person in the later wreck. Hmmmm....wonder if that is the lawyer's idea? They see $$$$signs because of their cut of the compensation. Hopefully I will know this week what insurance (they are paying for rental car) comes up with on the XT to see if I am going to have to fight.......... Linda -
Trying NOT to cry over smashed XT.
XT Fan replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Turbone, Kelley Blue Book RETAIL is 2095. I haven't found ANY subaru listings for 1986 at all. The cheapest so for for any Subaru is 1,850 for a 1992 Legacy Wagon fully loaded. I'm thinking I might go that way? My Suba was not perfect bodywise. Clearcoat was beginning to peel! Bottom line is...............I need a car. MY Car. Am driving now a Ford Taurus(rental), It's OK, but I don't like it one little bit. I will have the rental car until Insurance writes check for XT. Linda -
Trying NOT to cry over smashed XT.
XT Fan replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sweet82, I agree with Subawoohoo, IT's BS. If they can wait that long, they really shouldn't have a claim. I'm not the sue happy type I just want what's fair. A car like mine and of course the medical bills taken care of. I will be going for xrays today or Monday at the latest. Insurance has already ordered a rental car for me and they should be bringing it today! Subrally, the engine is still good just bent the bumper and the grille thinghy underneath, but again frame is bent in front too. Had this been any other car the size of an XT, I'm convinced it would be an accordian today! Pain is worse today of course, I have appointment on Wed with my Chiropractor and my Son is going too just to have him checked. Oh...the Lady that fell asleep at the wheel has same insurance co. as me. I wonder how this will play out? Thanks again all for the concern. Linda -

OK, I hear you guys. What dealership do I look at for the Lotus. I guess I should at least drive one! Still slightly weeping......... Linda -
Trying NOT to cry over smashed XT.
XT Fan replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks all for the good vibes. Turbone.... Agent did advise I go to Dr. I will Monday. HER Ins. is same as mine!!!! I wonder what will happen as they fight amongst themselves? Subawoohoo.....that is exactly what I am upset about. Old car, I love, being sent to graveyard. Once the frame is bent, I have heard, can't fix it right anymore. At least it protected my most loved possession (my young son). General Disorder....Lotus SOUNDS great! However, if I get anywhere near 42K, I will probably try to find old Subaru again and put rest in restoration of OLD house (built in 1906). Does the Lotus have a back seat? It really is pretty! Thanks for all regards, Linda
