  1. Ow! What he said. I've been feeling sorry for myself, but you just made me feel better . Find another engine and save yourself a lot of headaches. With the WCSS coming up, if you can't find one locally, you can probably hook up with someone, who could bring one to the show. Good luck to you. ~ Myles ~
  2. I'm with Tom63050, on the Rustseal. I use Rust converter. I got it at Autozone. It's sold under several different names, but it all does the same thing. No matter how much you grind on it, there will always be some rust, kinda like mold spores. After you finish, coat it with rust extender and it will stop it. You can spray it on or paint it on; on heavy areas like you have I would paint it on. If you pop rivet sheet metal, have rtv between it and whatever you're riveting to. It keeps the moisture out so the rust can't start up. We do this on aircraft repair; between the rust extender and the rtv, you can slow it down, if not completely stop it. The rust extender was developed, by the Navy, to seal their ships and became available to the public in the 80's. Good luck. ~Myles~
  3. Ha! I did it  . The pretzel's in! Once you loosen the right nuts, it falls right into place. (hmm nuts) Thanks Turbone ~ Myles ~
  4. Okay, so here's the deal, I tried to disconnect from the motor instead of the frame. I guess there are two bolts on the engine, though I can only see one, and one on the frame. I think I have the motor mount straightened out, if not I'll replace it later. This should have been an easier job, though it is a 1st for me. But I've been in the everything in my life keeps going wrong and interfereing with the task at hand, mode. When I started this thread last weekend, I planned to get right on it, but NOOOO! My hotwater heater blew out, flooded the bathroom and I spent my Sube time as a plumber. But the good news is, along with learning a lot about my sube, I'm remodeling my house . Sometimes life is too ridiculous to take seriously. ~ Myles ~ Thanks for putting up with my rantings...
  5. :banghead: I'm trying to jack up the motor, after I took off the 14mm engine mount bolts (1 on each side) and the top support engine/transmission rod, I started jacking up the engine and after raising about an inch, the car started to raise with it. I lowered it and now the bottom of the engine, no longer fits flat against the motor mounts. what the he?? did I do wrong NOW! Please help the retarded! I'm sure there's a blessing in it for you. It's raining again tomorrow, so I'd like to get it on tonite, before anything else can go wrong. Thanks for all your help.
  6. Thanks, Turbone, I'll get on it. I can't believe, I did that and I don't want to pull it all apart again. For some reason, this is being a real pita. Everything is going wrong. Maybe someone's trying to tell me, that I'm getting too old for this crap, but ya know, I don't think I'll ever like the newer cars, as much as I love the older ones. Wish me luck. ~ Myles ~
  7. I put new heads on my 88, ea82t wagon, but I forgot to put the crossover up in the engine compartment before putting the right head on. Now, I can't get the crossover to fit between the head and the frame of the car. Augggg!! I don't want to pull the right head again so, can I loosen the front motor mounts and jack up the front of the motor, without disonnecting the tranny, or what can I do? Thanks, in advance, for all of your advice. I owe you all of you guys a ~ Myles ~
  8. First of all, let me make something perfectly clear! I am not driving some skanky, worthless Kia Rio; I'm driving a comletely updated EA82T Subaru! I have the latest in bearingless mufflers, not to mention the new and improved dry blinkers! The Karooter Valve, however, is something I'll have to look into. Thanks for all of your totally worthless input. I'll now mosey on over to the "for sale" forum and put my little lead balls up for sale. :-\ I may even auction them off on E-Bay.
  9. lmao..I got it Daeron..I was hesitant to talk about those two balls just because of people like you , Anyhow,, I took a lot of stuff off to get the heads and I remember hearing one of them hit the ground..I found it and then another one, but I can't remember what I was removing at the time. So I guess I'll just put it all back together without its little balls. Hey, it's a turbo..doesn't that mean big balls? Thanks guys!
  10. Okay, so I'm finally getting my wagon back together, after replacing the heads. It's been a long drawn out process, being delayed by major back problems, etc. Anyhow, so now I find that I have two, small lead like balls. (kinda beat up, a little over 1/4 inch diameter) and I can't remember where they go. I bagged em up and now am trying to figure out where they go. I have an '88 ea82t, wagon. Anybody have any idea, where these might go. I checked the book, for oil pressure relief valve on the cam housings, no balls in there. Hmm...I just draw a blank. HELP!!!
  11. That was my thread that you attached it to. I don't know how to get it for you, but if you go to threads started by buzzcon, you can pull them up. Sorry I can't make it easier.
  12. I'm dealing with a cracked head now. It is cracked in the exhaust port. Water was coming out of the exhaust, in the form of vapor. (I looked like a mosquito fogger ) It only came out, at 1st when the car was cold. After it warmed up you could hardly see it, but you could still smell it. It got progressively worse, to the point that I was adding water everyday. I loosened the exhaust pipe from the head and I could see the water dripping from the head, when the engine was running. Hope that helps. ~Myles~
  13. I'm finally updating my mosquito fogging problem. I pulled the head, on the passenger side, PITA. I bought a pop-up canapy, so I could work out in the rain and in snowed! Well, sure enough, it's cracked in the exhaust port, about 2 inches, in the siamese twins. I could see the water coming out of it, when I pulled the exhaust pipe. There's also a crack between each of the exhaust valves and intake valves. So,would it be better to find another head or have this one fixed? Will the cracks between the two valves get bigger? Keep in mind, this is a EA82t. I haven't had the gumption to pull the other head and probably won't, this time around. I ran a dye in the coolant, before I pulled the head, and found the cracks in the right head, using a black light. I didn't see any in the left head. All advice is welcomed. ~Myles~
  14. Okay, so when I get the right head off, and get it welded, should I go ahead and pull the left head, and would it make sense to beef it up in the same area? Also, does anybody know what grade of aluminum, the heads are made of, for example there's 6000 series, 7075 series or 2024 series? So they use the right aluminum stick for the weld. I still haven't gotten the head off but that's the next step, which will be done today. Then I'll be back asking for a list of parts I'll need. Oh, I took the intake gasket off and pulled it apart. It was a cardboard gasket with metal in the middle. It was felpro, purchased at autozone, so is that as good as oem? I have to pull the intake anyhow, so I figured I'd replace the gasket again. Thanks for your help. ~Myles~
  15. Here's an update. I don't have it all torn down yet, but I loosened up the exhaust to the heads and started it up, and water 's coming out of the right exhaust port head. :-\ Stopped for a little break and now I'm back to the tear down. ~Myles~
  16. Thanks a lot, for all of the help. I'm gonna start on it Friday, and I'll check for the cracks 1st. I guess I'll change out the manifold gasket again, since I'll be down there anyhow. I bought it at Autozone. Live and learn, huh? I should've asked beforehand, I guess. Thanks for the pics. I'll let you know what I find out. I appreciate the help and am open to any advice you're willing to give. Thanks a lot. ~Myles~
  17. Thanks. I'll try that 1st. I won't be able to get to it till the weekend.
  18. I had a feeling that would be the answer. Okay, Suberdave told me about a florrescent dye that is used to detect leaks. Would it make sense to use it, to detect any cracks in the head, since I'll be pullling them anyhow? Also, is there anything special that I need to know? I've never done headgaskets before? Any particular type of headgaskets, better on turbos than others? Do I sound lost and alone? Sort of like a ? I guess I'll be doing a lot of posting this weekend. Thanks for the help. ~Myles~
  19. I drive an '88 wagon, 5 speed turbo. It started leasving a cloud of white smoke, actually vapor, when I start it up, from a cold start. Once it warms up, it quits. At 1st it was using about a quart of coolent every two weeks. It started about a month ago, and has gotten progressively worse. Now it uses about a quart of water every 50 miles. I removed the manifold, cleaned the surfaces and put new gaskets on and replaced the hoses. The bolts on the passenger bank of the manifold were rusty and wet, so I thought I had solved the problem. No, It still smokes or steams or whatever! I cleaned the pcv, no help. When I remove the oil filler cap and the radiator cap, and place my hand over the oil filler pipe, the water sucks down, in the radiator and comes back up when I remove my hand. I can also hear a gurgling low tone sound at the oil filler pipe. I don't know if any of that means anything or not. The car doesn't overheat and it runs good and strong. There's no sign of water in the oil. I didn't see any air bubbles in the water, in the radiator. It smokes until it reaches 192 degrees. I can smell the steam, coming out the exhaust, after 192 degrees but I can't see it, so it's still coming out slowly. I don't know where to go from here. Somebody, please help. Thanks ~Myles~
  20. I'm one of those people . Educate me..please:rolleyes: I have the electric switch on my sedan & wagon, so I only have high range, right? And the dual range has both low & high :-\. Hey I'm right, right? Or not? I had to edit 'cause the message ended up being about the cost of tranny oil and had nothing I had said in it???
  21. Listen to Frank B. Don't do anything till you get a repair manual and read the brake section. If you know nothing about brakes today, what are you going know Monday, that you don't know now? I've done plenty of brake jobs, but I still go back to my repair manual, to get back up to speed and make sure I haven't forgotten to do anything. that's my 2 cents and it's worth a buck
  22. If you didn't do it right, you can drill them out. If that happens , use weld nuts, they work like rivenuts, but when you unscrew the roof rack, you can take them back out. They're rubber, with a threaded brass insert, but they squish up when you tighten them, sealing the hole. They're strong and you can find them at hardware stores. The rivenut is made out of aluminum. I don't trust them for holding spoilers, roofracks, etc., but that's just my opinion. ~Myles~ that's my 2 cents worth and it's free
  23. Looks nice to me. Congradulations. Do you ever notice that the best Christmas presents that you get are the ones from yourself? You always seem to pick juuust the right gift. ~Myles~ that's my two cents and it aint worth a dime
  24. Don't panic at this point. Let the insurance companies fight it out. You're insurance company isn't going to get out of covering the accident as long as you're premiums are paid up, your driver's license is valid and you cooperate with them. Let them take pics, give them statements, whatever they need. DO NOT ADMIT that it's your fault to anyone else, but your insurance company! Do not make a statement to her company, unless it is arranged by your company. They may call for a tape recorded statement. Tell them to call back later and call your claims adjuster. I doubt that neck pain came on as the ambulance approached , but who's to say. There are doctors prefered by lawyers, for their "expert testimony", so if she hooks up with a shark, your company's in for a ride. They know how to handle it. You're insurance is going up, face it and move on. We've all rear ended somebody and paid the insurance premiums to prove it. Welcome to the club! Fix the sube. Snow's comin', have fun. Your eighteen? Enjoy life. If the lady makes a buck, so what, your not hurt physically and your premiums got raised as soon as your bumpers touched anyhow. ~Myles~ that's my 2 cents worth and it's worth a dime
  25. Sorry that I didn't get those pics up.:-p I've been running like crazy for the past week and then do to these freaky storms, we lost power. It came back on today, so I'll attempt to get them up tonite or pm you if I can't. ~Myles~
