  1. very nice was wondering when someone would do this. Sorry I live in Cali so no adjustable timing for me. I don't run covers.
  2. I noticed that the resistances are different. Will an 87 t wagon coil work in an 86 t wagon? I am trying to diagnoss an irregular miss causeing cruise emmision failure. Replaced: O2 sensor cap rotor plugs plug wires air filter flapper door checked out good will replace fuel filter tonight.
  3. Is that really an sti manufactured strut tower brace? Didn't even know STI was around back then. Dealership option?
  4. Awsome idea, I think a flat 4 is ideal for a mid engine car, short length wide width, run with it man and don't stop. Awd would be a real pain in the butt, I am sure it could be done, but man that would be some work. Keep us updated!!!
  5. My brother has the brembo gran turismo big brake kit on his 2000 legacy and he is trying to find some brake pads for it. Does anyone know where to find them. Does EBC or some other company make pads for this particular caliper. He called brembo and they said to try tire rack, called them up and they didn't have a clue. Brembo suggested we try Race Tech. Did a google search and got like a million sites and couldn't find anything relative there. Thanks a bunch!
  6. Congrats!!! Awsome info!!! Giving me the itch to get on a dyno.
  7. Every OTHER year in Cali you have to go to a smog station and get you car tested. If you don't pass then you can't register your vehical. If you can't register then you can't legaly drive the vehical. Its a big pain in the @$$.
  8. The door switches went bad on my 86 t wagon so my dome light would not shut off. Had to relace driver and pass side. Maybe you are experiencing the opposite effect.
  9. All I have is two trailer pics and one at the show but it is the same as GLCraigGT only smaller and no people, let me know if you want em.
  10. rallyruss you made my day I got to get me one of those blue books! Thanks a bunch!
  11. When you mark your pistons don't use a punch. Masking tape works just fine. Piston pins were a real pain in the but. Not sure how they are on the newer motors. Had to improvize a tool. 2 feet of all thread with two nuts on one end (locked together), hook the nuts on the far side of piston pin and yank the pin out. You'll see what I am talking about when you tear into it. Big freezer bags work real good for keeping everything organized, oh and felt tip markers (sharpies). Take your time and yes the manuel will help a lot. Carb cleaner will work just fine to clean parts. Good luck
  12. wait wait wait, did I hear that right. Is that true for california? If so that would save me a lot of hassle.
  13. Very Nice I am sure those will do great! Look what I put back into mine and it actually ran, albeit I cleaned them up a bit. But life got in the way and all I gave them was a little bit of sanding and slapped them in there. Curious how much did it cost to rework the pistons Awsome!!! Kicking myself for not spending more time. These are in the 86 wagon in the sig
  14. i had the same experiance, Napa gave me that dubfounded look. Went to the dealer and they had them in stock. Strange, maybe it is one of those parts that a lot of model-years use.
  15. Yea California has some messed up laws. I think that the emissions testing is a good idea (Sniffer test). A clean running car, is a clean running car shouldn't matter what the engine compartment looks like. I say ditch all that visual inspection and just make sure it passes a sniffer test. This would eliminate all that C($P about where the motor was from and blah blah. The federal thing I believe has to do with regulations. Long time ago there were no emissions testing (hard to believe). Then California made their own laws. Other states did not. The FEDERAL gov't stepped in and said all states need to have emmision laws. The state had to choose or use existing state laws so we ended up with 2 systems California and Fed emmision laws. That is where the term Fedural cars come from. Least that is what I gather, correct me if I am wrong.
  16. Funny thing about the fan and the smoke I have wanted to try that with my setup but I don't smoke. The only way that I know my fan sucks the air is if you look at the hood scoop on a cold day (fans off) you can see the heat waves boiling out the scoop. Turn on the fans and no more heat waves. On my car I can actually feel the hot air coming out of the bottom of my car too. Good job!!!
  17. Good call on the boost pressures I wasn't even thinking about that. I seemed to forget the whole reason to put an intercooler on is to allow higher boost levels without detonation. When I intercooled my 86 wagon the thing pulled like a mother when the intercooler was cold and that was with stock boost. I guess a butt dyno cannot beat a g-tech for accuracy. Good thread
  18. I just sent my Vacuum advance for my 86 t wagon to the philbin group they quoted me $40 to rebuild it, I think other people on the board have used them with good luck I will post my experiance when I get the unit back. Here is their website http://www.philbingroup.com/rebuilt/special_services.htm
  19. Wow I thought you would see significantly faster times with an intercooler, Strange? You only gained a half of a second in your 1/4. Isn't there a way to measure HP with those things. That would be interesting to know. Kinda makes me want one.
  20. oh they are not supposed to look like that, just kidding at least you KNOW that the clutch is toast!! Awsome pics!!
  21. Nice, I don't think I have ever seen one of those, (RX sedan) Looks real nice, and the stairion intercooler nice job. Hood scoop looks seamless.
  22. Check your anti desiel valve it is the hexagonal looking thing sticking out at an angle on the front of your carb. There is one electrical wire going to it. Basically it stops fuel from going into your carb when your car is shut off. You can test it by haveing someone turn the ignition on and off and listen for the valve to click. Good luck
  23. That is funny my 87 fsm says that there are two boost sensors in the engine compartment next to the injector resistor block, one sensor is overboost and the other is above atmospheric. I know this is totally wrong, my brothers 87 didn't have two sensors. Weird? All I can find for relays are ign relay and fuel pump relay.
  24. Where did you find your check valve, when I replaced my fuel pump on my 81 wagon I left that part out thinking the new pump would fix the problem. I tried to find a replacment check valve and everyone just looks at me really funny. Thanks I can't remember if mine was before or after the pump.
