  1. I did the one on this page: http://freespace.virgin.net/hab.m/Timer.htm Seems to work pretty good only thing about the kit is the adjustment is really touchy. 1/48 of a turn on the variresister and you go from 1 min to 3 min. Once you get it dialed in it works great!!!!! Good luck
  2. Yea I figgured it out. Did a full tune up o2 sensor sparkplugs. Did a comp test while I was at it. 120 130 every cylinder. Ok Okk I am getting there. Used my brothers handy dandy vaccum tester and found out that my VACCUME ADVANCE was crap wouldn't hold a vaccum at all. Does this sould like it would lead to a failed cruise emmision test? Thanks Now I just need to get one from somewhere.
  3. Heres the printout hope this helps. I am just looking at a jumping piont if anyone sees anything really obvious. Thanks
  4. Was way over on my CO2 at crusing speed. Anyone have any ideas. I passed the idle test with flying colors. I am going to start at the o2 sensor and plugs just did the cap and rotor. Everything else passed, egr, pvc, vaccume hoses. Oh this is on the 86 turbo wagon minus intercooler. Thanks
  5. If you have an old timing belt around you could somehow use that to stop the pully from turning.
  6. Does anyone have a schematic for a flapper door style maf. My Hayes only covers hot wires and I only have the body electical section 86 FSM. I just want to make sure it is working correctaly. Thanks
  7. What is up with your speedo, were you going backwards when you took the pic? Just kidding, Ya I think the glyserine if there to buffet high shock loads, you see it a lot on high pressure water gauges I think. Good placement!!! Where did you move your rear defrost switch too?
  8. Sounds and looks just like an airplane!! What was he doing like 100mph?
  9. Yeeeeeaaaaya you guys crack me up. Awsome vids finally get to see what all the hubbub is about boggin the subies!
  10. Dude I have broken like three of those. Yes they are really brittle. I think it is the infamous egr silinoid. I was able to substitute a silinoid off of an older ea-81 car, had to change the electrical connector. Seemed to work then I found a real one in the junk yard and o so carefully installed it on my car.
  11. Heres a pic of when my brothers lug nuts came off, he ended up next to the orange thing on the right side of the road, good thing a culvert pipe was there to stop him. He said he was doing 55 when it happened. The tire passed him up and ended up by the barn on the left which is located on the other side of a 2 lane highway. The ball joint got ground down passed the nut. Poked what was left of the ball joint back in the controll arm and drove it home 2 miles I am still to this day not sure how it got that far without popping out? yes that is his mark in the road.
  12. Helps a lot if you post what you are working with? On 85 and 86 subarus here is how you get ride of that light. It is connections i11a i11b i11c that are the connections to interchange Good luck
  13. Variable vane turbos are a pretty cool idea. All the benifets of a small turbo AND all the benifits of a large turbo. What is really funny to me is those vanes are exactly the same as wicket gates on large hydroelectic powerplants just really, really, really, a whole lot smaller. Now I know why those turbo cost so much.
  14. Good post losts of info. I always wondered how the 87+ cars "sensed" an overboost situation without a pressure sensor.
  15. is that a hydralic line in there? was that a biproduct of the uppipe/downpipe install.
  16. disconnect one of the lines to the tranny at the vaccum relay with the car running, feel if it is sucking. reconnect, flip switch. disconnect line and see if it is sucking. Basically the vaccum relays just redirect engine vaccum. When they don't have vaccum going though them they are open to the atmosphere through the filter looking thing on the end. Did you verify that the lever on the trans is moving I think it is on the passenger side towards the back of the tranny?
  17. OK the other day I was just idleing for an extended amount of time, maybe 10 15 min. As time went on the idle quality would go down till finally it was barley able to run and kinda sputtered, shaking the whole car. At this time I looked at my autometer A/F gauge and it read perfect ratio and didn't tick tock like it normally does while idleing. Reved it and it would kinda tick tock but only a tiny amount. When I went to leave I drove 500 feet and idle came back to normal and so did the normal tick tock on the A/F gauge. Could this mean: A. O2 sensor got to hot B. O2 sensor got to cold C. O2 sensor just plain FUBAR'd D. Something other than the O2 sensor Strange.. the sensor was new when I redid the motor so only 30K on it. Oh this is the 86 turbo wagon in the sig minus the intercooler.
  18. Looks like your old pully was not the only thing that was rusted. Good pics thats gotta look cool with all four tires spining!
  19. What did you use "yellow stuff" to hold you RPV return line to your pre-turbo pipe. I have everything to get my RPV going but haven't solved that problem yet. Sorry for the hijack. The ground effects really make it POP. Good stance too.
  20. This got me to think'n. My brother had an 87 turbo wagon, but had to junk it, I took some parts off of it. One of the parts was the boost control silinoid.... Here is what I am planning. I have rigged up the silinod to work as so: Silinoid on = normal wastegate function so like ~ 6 psi Silinoid off = waste gate to const. vaccum pre-turbo intake = gives max boost Now is where it gets interesting, using the overboost switch on my 86 twagon or any ajustable pressure switch I guess "hobbs" has a nice selection I will control ground the silinoid. I think overboost is like 9psi so P>9psi switch completes circuit silinoid on = takes boost down P<9psi switch opens circuit silinoid off = takes boost up Incorporate this with the gear shifter switch (james bond button) and I will be about to pick my boost. I guess that kinda sounds like what oddcomps setup is with the SAAB APC. Feed back always welcome.
  21. Great Job, what year/model did you get that intercooler off of. I got mine off of an 198? audi 5000 but my input output ports are in a totally different place than yours. NEVERMIND I just read that you modded the input/output ports. Exactly how did you do this, pvc & JB weld, I am really curious. That is exactly how I mounted mine too. Ya I have had pretty good luck with mine too. I also installed 2 fans on it (spal 6.5 pullers) I can post some pics of the install if you want a look at em. Keeps it pretty much ambient (puttering around town) as far as I can tell with my hi tech temp gauge (hand). Here are some pics of my install without fans http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=623
  22. Marck Hey I live in Cali too, are you sure that they will still pass you with the spider? I thought ANY intake modification is a no pass. unless you have a C.A.R.B. ticker for the mod. One time they wouldn't pass me because I repaired my knock sensor wireing harness, they said it had to be all factory. I passed the sniffer but not the visual. Maybe they were just really picky at the place I went to.
  23. I watched a program on discovery or something about the USSR messing around with ground effect aircraft/ships. They were HUGE, and skimmed over the surface of the ocean, the site says they have problems getting out of the water read Big freakin Engine for take off. Heres some examples http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_1306/article.html The wierd one with the 8 jet engines on the front is the one that I am thinking of, longer than a football field!!!!
  24. Oddcomp thanks for the link that is some pretty out of the box thinking, awsome!
