Push button 4wd to D/R4wd swap
Subi81 replied to 91Pylons's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with trogdor. DR is wayyyy better. I swaped my 86 push button for an 85 dual range. I kept the push button shifter so I can wire up the button for smoke screen or something, just kidding. Had to drill a hole in the dual range shifter to do this mod. Just make sure you get ratios to match your rear diff. Don't forget the center console, and Dual Range lever and the sensor that is attached to the linkage. you will also have to plug or remove the vaccum valves by the wiper motor. you will never look back Good luck! -
Turbo Timer Question...how long?
Subi81 replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I run mine for about 1 min 30 sec, the subaru glovebox manual states and I quote: "It is highly recommended to let the engine idle for one minute after heavy hightway driving before shutting it down. Idling for one minute before shutdown of the engine helps to assure maximum performance of the turbocharger for years to come. This one minute period of idleing allows the turbocharger to stop spinning and cool down while oil is circulated through the turbocharger by the running engine. These percautions are common practice in the industry with high performance turbocharged engines." So there you have it from the horses mouth. Good luck -

I think it has air suspension, I like the hitch too, really clean, brain cogs spinning. -
Check out the Fresh air ducting too. On the out side of the car right were the hood touchs the windshield, That whole space in there was filled with insilation, I guess the mice were getting cold so they renovated my entire heater system to there liking. I had a huge nest blocking up my Ac condensor Core absolutly no air flow. It was a total loss, had to throw it all out. Good luck

Pretty nice! -
Just did that same thing on my 86 turbo wagon, I got my stuff from Franklin auto parts, I think they are just a local shop here is what I used. 3M weatherstriping adhesive (black) part No. 08011 Here is a link to 3m site and speil on the stuff http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/auto_marine_aero/automotive_aftermarket/node_GS907DLZLQgs/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_GSLPLPKL4Xge/bgel_GS1JXGVQZ4bl/gvel_6DTWTJQPBBgl/theme_us_aad_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html Just lathered it on the door and the trim let it set up for 5 min, then pushed on the strip. Whatever you do don't use Hot Glue, 1 day in a 100 deg day and it will be lieing on the ground faster then you can say, Dammmit! Good luck!

Has anyone actually got 15.9 gallons in there fuel tank, 86 turbo wagon 4wd. The manual states that it is a 15.9 gal tank but I have completely ran it out of fuel and I could only get 13.9 gal into it. Gas was coming out the filler! What happened to the other 3 gallons. Or am I just looking at the manual wrong. Thanks

Has anyone heard of these. Talked to a guy in my class he says they are pretty common to have in Michelins. So if I take them out do they come back? Some experiences would be great. The guy I was talking to never owned Mich's so he didn't know if they come back. He explained the phenominonon as a sluffing off of the inside rubber on michelin tires, this sluff rolls around and becomes a a whole herd of balls bouncing around in your tires. I have a really strong out of balance issure and I am hoping that removing these balls will get me back on track. Thanks

I agree same thing happened on my 81 wagon moister or oil or something got up in the dash bushings and made the magnetic ring contact the cable, so instead of the magnetic ring getting dragged by the mag field it was a direct connection, Whinning like an sob then tink!! the needle broke. still made that horable noise though. I just found a junk yard unit and replaced it. Good luck

Nice! Looks like art!

That looks really good, Great idea about using the junk yard plastic door for the panel. Real Clean!! Like the switch too. How did you secure the switch? Screws, tape, glue.. Dam completely flawless! Congrats

What about the cruse control bulding pressure? When ever I turn on my cruse control you can hear the pump fun for like 5 sec. -
Overheating when headlights are on.

I was having a simaliar problem with my 81 wagon, turns out that one of the fans doesn't come on when the lights are one. Lights on = 1 fans Lights off = 2 fans give it a try when your car is hot, watch the fans and turn your lights on and off. I guess the engineers thought they could get by with a weaker alt if they did this little trick. Hope this helps -
Don't forget to do the how to polish the windshield, Hot grinder sparks + whindshield = Dammit! Did that while cutting my hood scoop, Dout! Thanks!

Whats better push button 5spd or D/R 5spd?
Subi81 replied to smotocon1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I say Dual all the way, you never know when you might need that duel range to buck it up to a good make out spot. JK I like it because you know when it is in 4wd or when it is not. Plus if this is going on an 84 or lower you would have to wire in the push button and place the valves and run vaccum dohikies easier to just pull a lever and be done with it. Just make sure that you can find the center consol that matches your interier. Good luck -
Check the fan for operation, or just see if it is getting voltage. I was in the same boat as submonkey, my entier system was dry as a bone so the pressure switch would not engage thus the system prevented the compressor from running. I was able to jump the compressor and look in the sight glass, (glass window on the black soda bottle looking thing by the pass headlight) sure enough NO fluid. Hope this helps you get a handle on things.

EA82T in Gen 1 Brat, it's in there!!!!
Subi81 replied to garner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Good job, I like how you boxed the frame out. Its go'na scream! How much does a Brat weigh, maybe half as much as the wagon tham motor came out of. DAM! -
I had some dents like that on my 86 wagons pass door. Took off the interier panals and was able to reach throught all the window gears and such and popped it out with the aid of my foot. Tried to do the same on the rear door but the safty bar was bent too and I couldn't get a good enough angle on it to pop it out, the bar was to strong. Good luck

Intercooler hose Question
Subi81 replied to dave valiant's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I got my Silcone on-line from http://www.turbohoses.com The quality is top notch but the hoses maybe a little bit pricy though, at least have a look and see what is out there. Good luck -
