  1. First off, Cost, about $200 not includeing the intercooler. heres a breakdown: carbon fiber and resin from here http://www.shopmaninc.com/polyesters.html the resin I purchased is formulated for high heat. SM-700025 1 Quart 11.95 and the carbon fiber was seconds, FG-CF10725 25" Width 19.00/running yard I got 3 yards of it Then I needed the styrophome for the cores and some pariffin wax for the outer layer of the core, the vinyl ester was eating my syrophome, so the wax protected it. got some acatone to melt out the styrophome. Rallyruss I think that you might be on to something. after all my planning and carefull layup I only got one end to come out as a perfict circle. I now have a new apprieciation for any and all glasswork. Dr. RX, correct as usuall, the IC is out of an Audi 5000. Thanks for the input. Hopefully I can get to it this weekend
  2. So I finally finished the intercooler install with home made carbon fiber pipeing. Check if out http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/subi81@sbcglobal.net/my_photos but of coarse there is a leak, frankly I am surprised that it even started. Anyways the car idles fine 19 20 vaccum. But when I boost I get a really cool whisleing noise that I have a feeling is a leak. There is only about 1 psi loss in boost pressure. So how do I find a boost leak? Windex, a friend sitting on the engine listening, something else.
  3. Ya I was a little disappointed they didn't have either one of my model years on display, they skipped right over em.
  4. Heres the link read on it you want http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/subi81@sbcglobal.net/my_photos click on: "Misc subaru japan" for random shots around japan "subaru factory japan" for the factory pics and visitors center "subaru panoramas" timeline visitors center "subaru sambar fix" Yes I got to fix my girlfriends sambar, yes I got to drive it too "Subaru world HQ" they were closed but still cool wearing the WCSS 3 shirt Ok over the Winter Vacation I went to Japan with my Girlfriend for 1 month. First off the Japanise are Aoaky in my book everyone was so nice to me and wanted to know everything about America. We really are world trend setters. Anyways my girlfriend's mom arranged for us to have a private tour (just us and the tour guild) of the Yajima factory. I couldn't take pics inside the factory but they had a really cool visitors center, and I could take pics in there. Some Hightlights of the pics that I took: Couply pristine 360's A brat from Colorado, 60k miles Subaru Miricle car: only one in the world Original 360 concept clay model 2001 wrx whole car cut in half, awsome! 2001 World rally car some long distance legacy/forestor 5 or 6 whole moters with cutouts, svx, wrx, pleo etc. a rabbit all of these # are subject to depate I took the pics 3 months ago and this is all from memory. After the tour I got to meet with the plant manager and talk with him for a little bit, I was so nervous I didn't even get a photo with him. He gave my girlfriend and I a box of Cookies, a poster, and a wind up subaru WRX. He was totally cool. I think his name was Mr. Nagakawasi. While I was over there I also went to the Subaru World HQ and got some photos but I went there around the 1st so the place was all shut down. Took some pics with my wearing the WCSS 3 Shirt, Awsome. Also I got to work on my girlfriends Sambar. They said that it would never warm up and always had to choke it. Turns out the Termostat was totally Crapped out (some pics). Had to go to the dealership to get the part, that was interesting because termostat means nothing to the japanise, so I had to draw them a picture. It was great! I of course had to test drive the Sambar, that was really cool driving on the wrong side of the road. Overall awsome trip would recommend to anyone.
  5. Hello, I normaly hang out on the older gen board but I have a request. I have mounted a Top mount IC on my 86 turbo wagon and would like to see how the wrx deals with water after it goes throught the IC. Pics Here Click on Intercooler http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/subi81@sbcglobal.net/my_photos Specificaly if anyone has a pic of the top back of the engine with the IC off that would be great. Around where the Engine mates with the Trans. Thanks
  6. That is awsome! i just took my first dash out. What a pain in the (&%. Good Job.
  7. Noah finally someone really does the math! Congrats
  8. I agree with Qman, something ain't right. The bolts that stick down are almost 3 inches long. seems out of place calebz if I ever do replace them they are yours, they seem to be functioning correctly, not leaking any oil I guess I will have remedy it, does anyone have a pic of their setup, I just want to put it back to how it is supposed to be. Thanks for the replies!
  9. You know that is funny mine is the same on cold days it runs hotter. I think it is either the dam digi dash, maybe the temp is effecting the soilder on the back. Once the interior in my car gets warm the temp bar dissappears. Or maybe (correct me if wrong) the mech fan is tweaking out. Ya I know it has all that hot air blowing on it from the rad. But the air comming off the rad is not the temp of your engine. Maybe I am biased I hate mech fans with a passion. Just food for thought
  10. I just installed a Autometer oil pressure gauge in my ea-82. I got my adapter at napa, they had it in stock. Just took my oil pump in and the gauge and they found an adapter. Bty I mounted mine in the same hole that the stock subi gauge sensor goes in; that way I was able to keep my idiot light. I Would say that mounting the gauge in place of the pressure reliefe valve would give errorous signals, like when the valve is open or closed, just a thought. and is there really physical room for the sensor if you go off of the pressure relief? Hope this helps
  11. The shocks that are on ther are made by Monroe Gas-0-matic or something like that. The car came with them installed, not my doing.
  12. I am planning on attending. Trying to convice my brother to come too. Yes the gourge is a cool place. Can't wait!! It is cool that there is an attempt to get other groups to join us. The more the merrier!!
  13. Goto "Springs" folder http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/subi81@sbcglobal.net/my_photos are those bolts suposed to be in there or are the two plates suposed to contact each other. The car seems to be about 1 inch to high in the front, even compared to my brothers 87. I remedied this gaser look buy jacking up the rear but even with an RX swaybar out back it is too leany for my taste. Makes my car look like a late ninties dodge ram, to much wheel space. I guess I am asking if I can take out the 2 bolts that are in there. Thanks
  14. I found the jpg of spring rates and such floating around I will just measure the springs that are out of the car and see what they match up to. Thanks anyways.
  15. What is the spring color stamp on 85 rx rear shooks, yellow or green and on a 86 turbo wagon yellow or green? I switched them and want to know what I have on, cause I forgot.
  16. I Just pulled the whole dash out of an 87 turbo wagon, including the heater core box and ventelation controls, There is no water control valve on this particular hot box. Only a heater core with tubes going to it. Heat is contoled with a flapper door that sends air around the heater core with adjustments made to the hot/cool slider bar. Hope this helps, if you want pics e-mail me. I have the unit out of the car so I can get you any angle.
  17. Ya Skip I totaly agree it is a little bit of a strech to watch them while driving, But I couldn't think of any other place to mount them. I had no idea they made A piller monts that fit subaru trim. Maybe I will have to look into that. Skip where did you get that digital volt meter? that is pretty nice
  18. The black material that I used to mount the gauges to is road sign aluminum, my dad works in construction so he always has road sign sitting around, I think it is 1/16th thick. You can also find this material at a steel supply or OSH or something like that. Thanks nut for the tip on where to find it, I never thought of useing plastic, but it would be easier to work with. First I made an autocad template from some measurements of the opening. Made the drawing as acurate as possible. Printed out the template and glued it on the alluminum, cut it out then trimmed it to fit, took a while. Ah yes the hold down bolts that was a little bit of a streach, basically I made extentions for the bolts with coathangers. Original bolt lenth 1 inch, finished lenght, 6 inches. I cut out the bottom of the storage compartment except for the corners. drilled holes in the corners and put the bolts through the whole shabang! I hope that makes sense, I forgot to take any pics of the altered case.
  19. When mine goofed on me, I took the needle, spring, and a little flat washer, thingy out. It would only desiel, every once in a while, I think it is a good trade, undrivable car converted to drivable without much trouble. Good luck
