It's a complete brand new assembly from empi. I'm reusing the stock wheel bearing.
-
Thanks guys, I'll remove the new CV tomorrow along with just the wheel bearing housing and try and get them pressed together.
-
Shawn, So this CV Axle I have (80-5515) should work on my 86 Brat? It just does not want to fit into the wheel bearing.. This 80-5515 has 23 spines on the inner side, 30 spine outside. edit: does the CV axle need to be pressed onto the wheel bearing housing? I'm just trying to do it by hand.
-
Assuming the EA82 is a different part #? The bearing inside the wheel hub is too tight for the 80-5515 CV to fit into. Not by much but just enough where it will not insert in. I retried the stock CV axle and it fits in no issue.

Anyone know the correct part number for an 86 brat front cv axle? I ordered the 80-5515 and the wheel housing side is slightly too large.

Saw a local Brat appear for sale so snagged it up.. just got the 1st Brat back late last fall but this one is very clean so just had to buy it. 1986 Subaru Brat with A/C and Powersteering. The bed has been sprayed too and underbody rust proofing will come in handy here in Michigan. Still going to go ahead and do a light restore on the brown '87 and sell it. Just rolled 100K miles on it going to pick up the red Brat. -Pete

You can always go with the Autozone Duralast line.. lifetime warranty so if they ever go bad just keep your receipt and return them for a new pair.

Clunking noise at low speed turning
epix replied to epix's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
87 brat -
My Brat seems to be making a clunking noise (sounds sort of like a horse trot) when turning at low speed, it is even more noticeable when turning left as compared to turning right. I looked at the left CV Joint and the boot is attached and looks "OK" to me, the right CV Joint the boot is off so will be replacing the boot and adding more grease. What else could be causing the clunking type noise at low speed when turning left? Is it common for the wheel bearings to go bad on EA81s? Thanks

Thanks for the info!!! Just ordered this kit; Beck Arnley 039-6287 Oil Pump Gasket set http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CAZ40E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

Noticed today my Brat was leaking, propped it up and the leak was coming from the oil pump right where it seals to the block. Oil pressure on my Brat has always been pegged at 75+ psi and I check the oil level often just to make sure I am not running low on oil. This ever a common leak? What would be reasons for the oil pressure reading 75+ psi.. the sending unit looks like it was replaced my the previous owner.

Currently my Brat is on stock suspension and not too interested in lifting it (already have a Jeep) but instead would like to lower it maybe 1-2 inches.. not slammed or anything. From what I've gathered so far is the 2wd GL struts have mounts that equate to them being 2 inches less than the 4wd/Brat struts. Can I just swap on some 2wd GL struts and adjust the torsion bar to achieve the drop? Or do people spend a bit more money and find some universal adjustable coilover sleeves and slap them on the struts?

Wouldn't mind making a trek over your way just to see your Brats!

Truck stop was waaay over in Mt. Morris, PA. Tom, by chance know what models/year share the front fenders? I'm going to need to replace the passenger front fender and possibly hood as there are quite a few small dents in them. I'm from Sturgis so not too far from ya!

Well after a couple years of wanting a Subaru Brat I finally found a pretty good deal and jumped on it.. Found an 87 model (last year they were brought to the US) with 98,050 miles reportedly on the odo.. seller included the ugly bed cap,and 2 sets of jumper seats among some other extras. Should be a fun unique car.. T-Tops, 4WD, Seats in the bed. Plan right now is to get it all cleaned up and replace some trim, bit of the interior, and paint it black with gold accents. Loaded up and ready to go home I'll be using this site to do a lot of searching, seems to be a great resource and collection of info here!! -Pete
