  1. Today's saga: Got the following O2 sensor from Advance Auto Parts for $98.99: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product__18470480-P_291_R|GRPEMISAMS____?cm_mmc=ET-_-Trans-_-Confirmation-_-General They are having a sale where if you buy $100 or more online and put in the code you get a $50 gift card. I also bought some engine degreaser so now I have a $50 card coming to me! I also bought a 7/8" O2 sensor tool, went into the parking lot, jacked up my car (used jack stands, also) and went to town. That darn thing wouldn't budge. It was really, really rusted on and in no good shape. I ended up yanking the old O2 sensor's wires off and it still wouldn't move. I ended up rounding it and gave up. I returned the tool and went to a garage down the street. The guy there charged me $25 to swap the O2 sensor. He had to use a blow torch to get the old one out. Considering the tool cost $18 I think spending $25 to have a garage do it was just fine. I reset the code and will fill the tank in the morning (I'm at empty) and I hope and pray this goes away for good.
  2. The OE o2 sensor is $136 and the NGK one is $90something. Any suggestions? Remember, this is for the secondary cat.
  3. Update: CEL is back, complaining of bank 1 sensor 1. Turns out you need to ignore "bank" and instead focus on sensor. The rear sensor, in the second cat, is broken. Snapped in half. The front sensor is fine as it's new and OE. So, what should I replace the rear sensor with? I understand it does not need to be OE, but I do not want to be splicing. Suggestions?
  4. Yeah, big thanks to SubaruFred for the exhaust leak. His suggestion and the $50 I spent to get it fixed probably has saved me hundreds of dollars in gas. Here's the other issue- the gas meter is off. I have a 16 gallon tank, but when it's down to E and I fill the tank I only get about 11 gallons in, which means there is 5 gallons still in there. Should it read E at 5 gallons? Any way to recalibrate the gas meter?
  5. Just drove 120 miles from New Haven, CT to Boston, MA. No codes and I think I am getting better gas mileage than I ever have.
  6. I think the best deal was finding this exhaust shop that actually will do things cheap and good vs the dealer who wanted $2200 to replace the pipes. Yup.
  7. So I went to the independent muffler shop across the road and they found a leak coming from one of the flanged on the passenger's side right before the converter. They cut out the flange and put on a metal pipe and welded it on, for $50. The hiss is gone and the car actually seems more responsive now.
  8. I am pretty sure this is due to ongoing exhaust leaks. I am headed over to a muffler shop to go get it checked out.
  9. I think you are right about the exhaust leak. I've had some work done down there and I am pretty sure I still hear hissing. I guess I need to find a good muffler shop. Quick question- how many O2 sensors are there per cat?
  10. Alright. I replaced the O2 sensor with OE sensor last week and cleared the code. Gas mileage came back. All seemed to be well until I filled up again and the CEL came back on, complaining of the same code. Any ideas?
  11. I lost an engine on the interstate due to a failed water pump. Leaked out all the coolant, fatal overheat. Replace it now.

  13. Drain the radiator, pull out the lower hose and t-stat, stick a garden hose in and flush.
  14. Just follow the small air hose coming from the intake ducting. It goes right to the IAC.

  16. I had a water pump fail on the interstate hours from home. Lost my engine. Replace those waterpumps.
