97 OBW AT. Replaced the starter with a reman Subaru 2 years ago. I often turn the key and nothing happens but then it'll finally turn over after a few more tires. I hear at least two "clicks" when I turn and nothing happens, which I guess are relays. Been going on for a long time but getting worse over time. Today it wouldn't start even after 100 tries. I hooked up a jump back and that didn't help. I'm about the replace the starter again but I know there's discussion of some contact that cause this problem, tho I don't exactly recall. Is there a more reliable product than the Subaru reman starter? I see plenty of offerings but want to stay away from the lousy ones. Thoughts?

Get a radiator pressure device and pressurize the system. If the leak is external you will likely hear a hissing sound or be able to see the coolant leaking out. Giggle the hoses and poke around. You can also try a dye that you add to the coolant then use UV glasses to locate the source of the leak if it's external.

Call around until you find a place that welds. Ask if you can bring your own part. They will usually not warranty the part if you provide it yourself.

That little thing circled in red is the key-release mechanisms. I took a long, thin screwdriver and if I push on the little button in the middle the key will release. After messing around with it the key regularly releases. I also removed the first cable on top to stop the dinger from dinging which I find really annoying.

97 OBW AT I was hunting for the light bulb under the gear shifter and ended up cracking a tiny piece of plastic which is part of the system to release the key from the ignition. Now when I shut off the car I have to stuck my fingernail into a tiny little lever under the gear shifter on the passenger side and push up until I hear a "CLICK" from the steering column which then allows the key to come out. My options are to either piece the plastic back together which may not be completely possible due to missing parts OR somehow disable this system. Shifting is just fine and I don't notice anything else not malfunctioning. Does anyone know how I can disable this system entirely? I imagine I'd have to remove a module or something from the steering column but I'm unsure exactly what to do. I can't exactly figure out why there is something preventing the key from coming out. As a kicker, I also didn't find the lightbulb.

No CEL but there might be a pending code. Scan it and see what comes up.

97 Legacy Outback AT. The vents sometimes don't change direction when pressing the buttons but usually do respond. I'd say it happens 10% of the time that I press a button and the vents do not respond. I already removed the climate control panel to replaced bulbs and so the connections have been unplugged/replugged yet the problem continues. Thoughts?

Might anyone know a source that has those bolts or their safe and appropriate equivalent for less than $9 per bolt? I can find them cheaper but then the shipping makes up for the lower cost. My caliper mount bolts are rounding and I wish to replace them. I went to Home Depot but they were out of stock and not expecting more. Advance had the right size but the grade was too low according to the parts manager who said a grade 10 is really the safe one to get. Amazon has them for $9 which is a lot of money for a bolt. I'll go with it if there is no safe alternative but thought I'd ask here.

I went ahead and went with the Eagle part for 19.98 from Amazon. I was able to use my Chase Freedom card rewards points and so I got it for free, including free shipping. I also had enough points for a NGK wire set. Advance lets you use rebate cards for oil which none of their coupons work for so I'll just buy a bunch of nice oil and keep it for oil changes.

I'm a bit shocked at the price differences between Advance and Amazon for the same exact parts Anchor Transmission Mount 9563 $48.51 on Amazon, $83.99 at Advance Anchor Transmission Mount 9074 $23.66 on Amazon, $102.99 at Advance Beck Arnley 104-1528 $51.78 on Amazon, $95.99 at Advance Prices are literally half on Amazon of what they are at Advance. I don't know what to make of this. Someone said the Beck Arnley is likely the OE part resold through Advance. Can anyone confirm?
