  1. Pretty much what GD said. Not for the faint of heart. Rebuilding engines is way easier.
  2. I replaced my springs and struts two summers ago with KYB GR-2 and OE springs. It was a good thing I did as one of the springs was cracked and broken! I gained about 2 inches of height after doing it.
  3. $300 deductible. They are giving me a run around about high mileage (240k) taking off $800 and some other minor bumps. I am arguing them for every penny. Edit: They didn't include the heated seats and I also sent them receipts for the ej22 engine and the rebuilt transmission. I'm hoping that adds a fair bit to the value. I may get it independently appraised.
  4. It seems that the insurance company is going to total the vehicle and sell me it back for $200. Because of the age there won't be a salvage title, but they will have to inspect it after I make repairs in order to get a policy on it. After deductible, purchasing it back, and other things it appears they are going to give me around $2000 for it. I plan on repairing it with junkyard parts. So now I have to start determining what parts I'll need. *PLEASE* help me with this list: 1- Hood 2- Headlights, right and left 3- Radiator 4- Radiator fans 5- Grill 6- ??? 7- ??? Please help me fill in the blanks! I don't know the condition of the alternator, alt belt, AC compressor or belt tho I will find out soon. I'll hold off on ordering any of those parts until I get back to the vehicle. I'm currently out of town for about 2 weeks so I can take some time to order parts and have them shipped.
  5. I fully intend on keeping her and fixing her. I put a transplanted ej22 into her, just replaced the pads and rotors the other day, and had the trans rebuilt. Have every intention on keeping her and fixing her.
  6. I have no experience with this sort of thing. In 16 years of driving this is the first accident of significance I've been in. If they total it do they pay me but I can keep the car and then fix it? That's exactly what happened. My bumper didn't do any bumping, but the hood and radiator did.
  7. I was in CT earlier this afternoon on my way to New York and getting on the highway. It was raining hard with very slick conditions. As I was getting on the highway there was first a yield sign for merging traffic and then a stop sign before you got on. I thought I had left more than enough room for the car in front of me but then I started hydroplaning and couldn't stop. I hit the car in front of me and did some serious damage to my front end. Their car was barely scratched. Here's a video of the damage: I have collision insurance ($300 deductible) so I'm not terribly worried about it getting repaired. I feel terrible about hitting their car. I never intended such a thing. Fortunately there were no injuries. I apologized to them many times. Thoughts on how much the repair would cost? I saw coolant dripping onto the ground and the radiator fans are definitely destroyed. Anyone think the insurance company might try to total the car? I had it towed to the insurance company's preferred repair facility (also AAA certified). Edit: 97 OBW with a transplanted ej22 from a 98 Legacy
  8. Every time I have a Subaru that is misfiring it is always because of the wrong plugs or wrong wires. Put in NGK or OE plugs and OE wires and the misfire goes away permanently. This isn't the case with one or two Subarus that I've worked on but hundreds.
  9. Dude, you're coming to a Subaru forum where we have a collective hundreds of years of experience working with Subarus. Some of us are mechanics and work in actual garages and specialize in Subarus. If you don't like the advice that we give, such as only using NGK or OE plugs, then that's fine but don't insult us by calling it "religion". We're here for free so you had better be respectful of our time.
  10. You're kidding, right? Are you here to ask for help and receive free advice or are you here to jerk us around?
  11. You must absolutely only use NGK (aka OE) plugs and OE wires. No exceptions. If you try to substitute something else then you will misfire.
  12. Incorrect. A plugged converter can definitely cause the engine to stutter. You're probably getting a P0420 code, which means the O2 sensor is likely bad. Which one is it pointing to?
  13. Again, what were the codes? There is no reason that the CEL should be on even if the engine was swapped. I swapped the engine in my outback and I don't have a CEL.
  14. First put the OE or NGK plugs, OE wires, and OE O2 sensors in. Clear the codes and see if you have problems. If it jumped time when a compression test would show any valve damage.
  15. What brand O2 sensors did you use? It is STRONGLY recommended to only use a Subaru OE O2 sensor for the front cat and either a Subaru O2 sensor or a high quality aftermarket for the downstream cat. If you use a non-OE for the upstream cat then you'll likely throw codes.
  16. You should ask GeneralDisorder, he's the exper......aaahhhhhh crap....nevermind.
  17. Engines can be rescued from a flood but electronics are a big pain in the behind.
