Haha they dont like the bigger tires much. My 27's are fine for the highway, i can easily maintain 60 as long as the hills arent to big. Getting up to that speed takes a little bit and the most i have ever got is like 75 on the freeway. Doesnt want to go much faster then that. I also run a Weber so that helps a little. It definitely doesnt make it undriveable. It just take a little while to get used to it.

It depends on the offset of your rims, with a stock offset you really wont need to trim with a 2" and 27" tires. With a positive offset such as my car has you will need to trim as they will stick out quite a bit further. A 2" lift is a lot more simple then a 4" lift too so thats something to keep in mind, depending on how you do it.

Yeah this would probably be best for a dedicated offroad rig. I do daily drive mine but that is because i have a second car if something major happens. And expect damage to your car, its hard to keep it from happening. Before Walker Valley After only 5 Walker Trips I have broken 4 axles from abuse, none on the the trail yet. No diff stubs, yet! Both tail lights at least once. Both front marker lights Bowed out a fender Both bumpers are different shapes now. Ball joints and tie rod ends. Driveline is now making noise. Bent a strut. If you can manage to fix this stuff then by all means come and join us, its loads of fun with a great group of guys.

Looking good man. Cant wait to see it finished!

Haha oh yeah, Jeff pulled out Woody's Jeep with his Subaru. Totally forgot about it.
-
Run was pretty good today. Jeff smashed a tail light and front marker light. Rick ripped out his carrier bearing/entire driveline. Pat did a bunch of stuff including, tailight, lift blocks, driveline? Bill pinched a tire and had the swap it. Josh ground a groove into his driveline, blew an axle on the way home and smashed a tail light. Dan smashed his exhaust into his driveline which made a nice squeal I managed to smash a tail light and bend my rear bumper up some more. All of the Pictures are here on my facebook. A couple of videos soon.

No crossmember dropping. My front struts were dropped 2 inches, and extended the rear struts 2 inches. Removed the front sway bar. Added big tires, thats about all. 14's? Depends on the tire size, mine are 27" you could get that size stock but you would have to bash/cut the crap out of your car. Follow the instructions that one eye made and you will be set.

Why not just put solid axles under it? Would be around the same or less work. And you would have more gear options and more strength.
-
Yeah exactly what Jeff said. Now that i look back on it its super easy, i could have and should have done it a long time ago. Just get some wheels and tires and lift it and be done.

Unless some horrific unforseen tragedy happens, ill be on this run. Possibly with Christmas lights on my roof rack.

General Subaru noob dumb questions
Vegablade replied to PadreScout's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok here it goes. 1. EA81 is the older pushrod motor and it came in the Gen 2 Wagons/Sedans/Hatchbacks/Brats which i believe the Hatch and Brat ran until 87. The EA82 ran from 85 up to 1994 and came Carbureted/Fuel Injected in GL/DL Wagons/Coupes/RX/Sedans and Loyales which are just GL's. 2. Stock wheels are 13". You can upgrade with Peugeot wheels or by drilling 6 lug toyota wheels, or converting your hubs to 6 lug. For anything much bigger then a stock tire you will have some rubbing and will need a lift to clear, or trim/beat the crap out of the fenders/wheel wells. 3. A lot of bumpers now are custom, they did offer some when the cars came out but i dont know how available they are. Roof racks are pretty generic, i run Yakima bars with a Load Warrior basket. 4. On a 88 you might have a dual range which would have a lever down below the shifter next to the parking break which will pull up to engage FWD/4WD/4WD LO. Or it could be 2wd. RX's had full time 4wd with a center locking diff on the stick. 5. I run 27" tires on my car, the motor does alright, i drove it about 600 miles round trip and held about 60-65 on the free way, though i guess i could do 70 if i wanted. It does not like the mountains at all. One Eye runs 31x10.50x15 Super Swampers on his 8" wagon with a EA81 and its....different lol but he made the same trip. For more power just go with a EJ22 out of legacy from 90 and newer bolted up to the DR transmission. A diesel would destroy the front suspension with all that weight. There is tons of information on here, i just scratched the surface, use the search function and you can find almost answers you need. -

Maximum Tire Size on 15" Rims + 2" Lift?
Vegablade replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had to Trim to make these tires fit. They are 27x8.50x14 with a negative offset, Jeff (one eye) has a set of 27" wildcats on peugeot steels and they rub very little with no trimming. -
Well Jeff i will probably get it from you eventually, i worked longer today and wouldn't have had time to get it and install it tonight. Have fun on the trip tomorrow. I will get a hold of you this next week.

Vegablade replied to Loyale 2.7 Turbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What kind of rim are you using? It would make a difference, my 27" tires need quite a bit of triming because i used a wheel with a bit of negative offset. -
Well it looks like i wont be able to take my car up, i wont have my tank finished in time. I feel bad, i havent been up since the summer overnighter.
-
Yeah just leave the outer axle stubs in and it will be RWD. i have done it quite a few times and its what happens when you break a front axle. Then You Can Do This! 1990 Loyale 1985 GL This will cause you to break lots of stuff though, so dont do it for long, i blew 2 axles, 1 diff, and a drive line.
-
Well no tank today and i have some projects i need to do tomorrow so i wont be able to make it, otherwise i would ride along as dedicated photographer. Have fun!
-
Well i havent got my tank yet from UPS and it looks like it might be a while so im gonna have to sit this one out. Hopefully i will be back in it for next month
