Chocolate Milk...
Vegablade replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pull the valve covers and see if on the off chance that it popped a freeze plug. one eye (Jeff) figured that's what was wrong with mine, give it a shot, he said he has fixed two with that problem. But when I did this today mine were fine and when i used a hose to pressurize the system i could hear water running inside the motor and saw it dripping out the exhaust so its a cracked head, but it was from a 82 DL i picked up recently, not my wheeler. Give it a shot, it cant hurt. -
Looks good man. Plan on wheeling it?

93 loyale Aux fan problem / wiring issue??
Vegablade replied to superpoo93's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had mine that way all winter and it always came up to operating temperature even when in the 20's while driving down the snowy highway. Do you have a thermostat in it at all? If so what temp? I do not have a clutch fan, only the auxiliary one, that's why its wired that way. -
93 loyale Aux fan problem / wiring issue??
Vegablade replied to superpoo93's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It sounds normal to me, you want the fan to turn off when the cars off, it can't fry anythin because there is no more heat being produced. What your saying is that the fan runs when to temp gets to a certain point then shuts off once its cooled down? I don't think you have to wait for the fan to stop to shut the car off. Mine is wired to always run with the key and it keeps everything nice and cool. -

Go ahead and make a set and report back, i think it could look good. I'm not trying to knock your ideas i just don't want you to think that it offers tons of protection then be bummed when it doesn't work. Yeah Jeff (one eye) does some crazy stuff. I have gone wheeling with him a few times and im sure plenty more times in the future. Most of my dents are from him saying "Yeah you will be fine" right as we head down some gnarly trail .
-
Well it may not weight much but aluminum will not offer a ton of protection. I have smashed my doors pretty good, i think that all the plate would do is help to push more of the door in because the plate would have nothing strong to bolt to. It will not stop dents. The best thing to do would be to take the rocker panel below the doors on the body and replace them with like a 3/8" thick pipe as a slider bar. Yeah Concrete is an awesome area, and yes i know about the movie. They filmed a small piece of another movie here recently too.
-
I dont think it would offer much in the way of protection as it is mostly for looks. The one pic of the rock slider is only attached with some small bolts. As soon as you put some weight on it it would rip off or just smash the diamong plate into the door. Also it adds weight and these cars have a hard enough time empty let alone lugging around a bunch of extra metal.

Eh...i went ahead and put a post up for fun.

EA81 2" lift wheel options?
Vegablade replied to dec0y13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Here is the offroad FAQ by monstaru, please read. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=114050 Also please search a little more before you post a new thread. You currently have 6 threads on the first page alone asking questions that could be answered with a little digging. -
anyone done the mini lifts? 1" or 2"?
Vegablade replied to tallwelder81's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry but this lift kit will not fit as the EA81 Brat as it has a slightly different setup. Also The FNG your lift kit will not fit his Brat as again the difference is EA82 Vs EA81. Do you mind hacking your fenders? if so, then you might as well leave it stock. A 2" lift kit will not fit 29's or 30's at all. Even a 4" kit will need a bunch of trimming. I have a brat with a 4" lift kit and it will still need to trim a tiny bit to fit 27" tires. Its also going to affect your road handing a little, no way around it its just how all lift kits work. -
Johns car? He was having Alternator/Battery/Charging problems. I left a little early so I'm guessing he got it fixed yesterday morning.

The overnight trip was a blast. Our day run was intense, the trail was pretty tore up since last time so everyone else went and i wimped out and turned around. Night wheeling was kinda tricky but was tons of fun. Me, Jeff/Tammi, Rick, Dan, Pat/Rhianna, Jesse, Scott and John all went on the night wheel, Johns car was acting up so we left it and he rode with Dan. Nobody really broke anything major, except maybe for Dans finger. Pictures http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b115/Vegablade/Walker%20Valley%202011-07-15-16-17/

I am totally ready Scott, this is gonna be a blast of a weekend.

Got my CB\Antenna\Mount installed. Got my light mounts for my rack and lights installed, will finish the wiring tomorrow after i acquire some more small parts. Under dash CB radio, i don't need no silly glove box. Rack, Lights, and Firestick 4' antenna.

The Dual Range 5 Speed is shifted into 4WD via a mechanical lever such as this and is NOT electric. Or Both Transmissions above are the same, the only difference is the 4WD shifter. The Single Range 4WD that came in Loyales/DLs IS electric and looks like this. You will need the top one with what el_freddo stated.

Can you have rear WD only
Vegablade replied to WASHroad's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did it to both my Loyale and to my old GL. Loyale lived most of its life in RWD before it died of unrelated problems, but it seemed to hold up good for the occasional one tire fire. The GL on the other hand lived only a short while with RWD while running 215/60/15's on the rear which caused the rear diff to explode violently leaving me with gear soup. So to answer your question, no i would not run it like that on a daily driver. Neither of my cars were main transportation so i didn't worry about it. Also with a open rear diff you are essentially one wheel drive with no option to change it. With FWD if you can always pop it into 4WD. If you want to have a true drift car, RWD it, EJ22 it, and then weld the rear and hope it holds up. -
This should be a blast. I'm going to have to get some lights setup so i cant see at night/blind everyone.
