  1. This is what happened to his car. He emailed me this. I explained to him how it would be far easier in the long run to just fix it right and be done with it. RWD is fun, but only if its done right.
  2. Don't just cut the axle. Remove the whole cage assembly from the cup. Just leave the cup and attached axle piece through the hub. I always keep a couple of these laying around, just in case. I do warn you again that you will be putting lots of extra strain on the diff. I exploded a welded diff with 26" tires. Also these.
  3. Not sure about the whole not all the power thing but I never experienced it, also that transmission picture is of an EJ AWD single rangle. It would work to just pull the front axles and leave the stubs in the hub but you will be putting a lot of unnecessary strain on your drive train pieces without beefing them up properly. You would probably blow your rear diff, even a welded one. Ask me how I know Long story short, do it right or don't do it.
  4. I have run a six lug conversion for several thousand miles and others have as well. On my hubs the centering ring on the rear and tabs on the front are not present meaning the only way to center the wheel is the lugs themselves. As long as the conversion is done correctly I do not foresee you having any issues.
  5. 27x8.50x14 fit OK with wheel with a big offset. Only a tiny bit of rubbing on the fronts by the door. A closer to stock offset would keep the rubbing down.
  6. I'm sure for some of the street guys this would be ok. But for offroad a six lug swap is way better and cheaper. Plus as bratman18 posted there are already some in the works.
  7. You can not use parts from a GL10 as it is still 4x140. You will need parts from an XT6. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the subject can chime in and provide some links.
  8. Awesome! It's all about the wait. Ask more then you want, then let the person talk you down so get what you want, and they feel like they got a good deal. Hopefully they fix all the issues and take care of it.
  9. - Steering wheel pulls slightly to the right (hit the front passenger wheel assembly hard months ago on a curb on wet pavement) This seems like an important safety issue to leave out of your ad, unless you fixed it.
  10. Yeah its pretty hit or miss on prices. It seems people think they are worth a lot, even when broken. With all the problems you have listed you may have a hard time getting what you want unless someone already has a pile of parts to use.   12. Dude calm down. I was just making a suggestion of what could happen as you upgrade each part. This is a pretty safe mod that will add a little strength but isn't going to mean you will never have any issues. I have been wheeling with the NW Washington Offroad group for a few years now and Jeff has been the only one to ruin one in that time. You are usually ok without, but it couldn't hurt.
  13. Jeff (one eye) tore one of his in half right at this joint. If you beef one up to much you will just end up ripping the mount off the cross member, beef up the mount, tear off the radius rod, beef up the radius rod and mount, then you will just tear off the knuckle. It never ends haha.

  15. Stock 13" wheels have huge positive offset, I could measure it after work. The holes almost line up with the edge of the rim itself. The reason most people go with a 6 lug swap or drill the wheels is that 6x5.5" wheels are incredibly common, they came on Toyotas, Nissans, Dodges, Chevys and so on. I got mine for around $70 each brand new from Les Schwab but have seen them as low as $50 new, or less used. While the VW adapter does have the advantage of no modifications you wont find as many of those wheels around or would i personally trust an adapter for anything other then super light offroad (Gravel Roads and Mud Puddles).
  16. You used the same breather hole correct? Shouldn't be any oil in the line as far as i can tell. The port has a U shaped hole to keep oil out, should only be air. As far a fumes go i'm not to worried about it. I don't think the differential moves enough air through heat expansion to make it bad. Plus my car already smells of gear oil. I ran it yesterday and so far so good, didn't notice anything weird. Will dump the diff oil soon and see how it looks.
  17. Stocks wheels are only 13". You will at least need to move up to a 14" wheel to use the tires I suggested.
  18. I mean aftermarket or different wheels that retain a close to stock offset. Negative offset will make the wheel stick out of the wheel well more and while it looks cool it will cause you to have to trim your fenders and hammer your wheel wells, also will accelerate wheel bearing wear. Stock Subaru wheels have a positive offset which keeps the wheels and tires closer to the inside of the wheel well. I have used two sets of steel six lug wheels. 1. 14x7 Allied White Spokes from Les Schwab with 3.75" backspacing. 2. 15x7 Allied Daytona from Les Schwab with 3.75" backspacing.
  19. If you are looking for off road looks but want decent street performance your only option is really the General Grabber AT2 in 27x8.5x14. Pair that with a pair of Peugeot or stock offset rims and you would do ok and wont have to trim much or at all. You will definitely notice a power loss and possibly some floaty boat handling but you should be ok. Ran 2" lift and 27s for a couple years and had no issues.   20. Hello All, So while rebuilding my diff I noticed that the breather was pretty much buried in WCSS and Walker Valley mud, even after several washes. Lots caked up between the drop plate and diff cover. This got me thing of extending the breather to not only to keep it from getting covered in mud and filled with water but to help with air exchange when hot. Have noticed this as being a popular mod on Toyotas and other wheelers so I set out. What I ended up using was a 1/4 pipe barb fitting. I didn't even need to drill the existing hole as a 1/4-18 tap was a perfect fit. After some cleaning and painting I reinstalled the fitting using thread tape and snugged it down tight. Bought about 6 foot of vacuum hose and started routing it. I ended up running it into the back next to the fuel vent and ?Fuel Sender Cable?. Then used a small fuel filter as a breather with a bit more tube. If water gets up to this point, then I have got bigger problems. Have not ran or fully tested this set up yet, still in the process of installing some electric fans and will finish zip tieing and mounting the breather tomorrow. Let me know what you think!

  22. Believe me, if I had the space I would have two spares of everything. With such short notice I couldn't pick one up. On the other hand I have all my photo equipment ready to rock.
