I am looking for more power down low below 1000 RPM
Vegablade replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
Probably nothing as he seems to have built a quite capable rig with the appropriate precautions installed to avoid overheating or damaging his equipment. The Manual vs Automatic debate is a waste of time as they are both plenty capable in all kinds of different situations. Very few people have driven enough variations of builds to say one is far superior then the other. Only that one is preferred. Lots of people wheel both and have no issues, lots of people also have issues with both. Its all about what works or doesn't for our needs. If you feel that you have a perfect solution please build it and report back and show us how superior you are. -
I run 235/75/15s which are a 29 and they still rub even after some cutting and wheel well bashing. I also have like 4.5" of positive offset though so it sets the tires out a bit. Here are some pictures of a sedan on 29x8.50x15 swampers. They measure out to more like a 28 though. Not sure if they rubbed at all.

Just build your own 2" lift. Its like 10 bucks in steel.
-
Why not just lift it? Probably way cheaper and easier then trying to adapt something and hoping it works.

Now that it is all starting to come together I can make sense of it haha. Can't wait to see it done.

Probably something like a 195/55/15 or 185/60/15. Even then those are around and inch taller assuming your stock tire is a 175/70/13

Home built gen 3 bumpers
Vegablade replied to Tman1058's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bryan Duddas managed to put an ARB toyota bumper on his car. Though he has King Springs which would handle the weight better. -
Well after some persuasion with a sledge hammer they are actually working pretty well haha Definitely time to devise some sliders.
-
Probably wont be making this one. Will be busy and have been lazy and haven't fixed what I broke last time yet. Post pics!

On those shifters does the plastic in the bend come off seperately? I have a "banana" shifter on mine and i just screwed a 4WD ball on the end. Mine is extended but you might be able to get away with removing the plastic section of the shifter if you can.

So not bashing your idea, but why run Subaru diff and axles? Seems like a project of this size would be better off straight axled. I know the A arms are already in place but that's a lot of weight for them to run.

Hey are all of those just data discs with video files stored on them? Or are they Video CD/DVDs. If its just data it would be easy to convert or upload.

Bad angle? You mean stock angle because you have no lift. Bigger tires does not change the angle the axles sit at.

83 brat gl need advice
Vegablade replied to mike83bratgl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm no expert but i haven't really heard of anyone blowing front diffs you sure thats it? I would say just find another lower mile transmission and swap it. There are still lots around. -
lift recommendations
Vegablade replied to Godsmulligan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have 27x8.50x14 Maxxis Bighorns on a 4" lifted BRAT with 14x7 wheels with 3 3/4 inch backspacing and they rub pretty good. It will be about wheels you choose as Scott said. You will want to run Peugeot wheels or something close to stock offset to keep from rubbing. -
You will still wear axles fast with a 2" suspension lift. Ask me how I know. I would say if you can make it work Gen3 suspension will be better. EDIT: Better yet just get a Gen3 Wagon/Sedan/Coupe and call it a day.

Damage Report Bent Rear Bumper (High Lift, As If It Wasn't Already Toast) Bent Front Bumper (From High Lift) Crushed Passenger Side Exhaust Dented Oil Filter Crushed Passenger Front Door and Rocker (More So Then Before) Also a Axle Stub, But That Was A Pre Existing Condition. Fixes Before Next Trip Maxima Alternator (Mines Finally Dying) Replace Water Pump Oil Change Rear Diff Oil Change Bumpers Skid Plate (Long Overdue) Brakes More Wheel Well Bashing Besides Kevin's steering shaft and Roberts Fender/Bumper issues we did pretty good. It was a fun trip up above the clouds.

We are going to be on either 4 or 5. I will tell Jeff to be on 4 though, because as he says, 4 for 4 wheelin'.

I also got up into the mountains a little, though I didn't find any sweet water crossings like that. -
Looks good! Keep up the great work and photos!

Pretty sure its just the inlet tube O ring. Its a very slow leak. Been driving a lot it will be fine for one more day. Will have a spare just in case and will fix it after. Which is funny as my attitude is usually the opposite.
