  1. Yeah dude everything came from the donor car, well everything except the fuel pump but i got that off of the 87 GL-10 parts car i have in the back yard, which was fuel injected. I also replaced the fuel filter and even put the one on that the legacy had on it. So i dont really think it's a fuel problem, and when i put the other filter on i loosened up the clamp and gas shot across the garage from the pressure haha. This project has been intense but at least the car is running that's a good sign. I'm wondering if i might have something not hooked up? Hmmm weird, it would be cool to have this thing driveable by the time winter hits so i can go do donuts and bust through snow drifts again!

  2. That sounds like an awesome project, i'd love to get my hands on a super old subie like that and throw in a 2.2 or somethin like that. As far as the tranny issue goes does the car have the original 4WD tranny with Hi/Lo? If so perhaps an adapter plate can be made or purchased? Or you could always use a 5 speed Hi/Lo from a EA82 car and use that adapter plate, and have a new driveshaft built for it? Sounds fun, can't wait to see pics!
  3. What up Shawn?

Hey thanks for your help so far with my swap, very cool. And as far as paying $50 for a ECU i got it from Brian at Allstar Imports in Lakewood at Simms and Colfax. He usually over charges for everything but it was so quick to just run in and get it i guess. Anyways good news i replaced the ignitor and my car fired up! Booyah! But it runs like ************. Fairly hard to start and almost feels like misfiring or out of order firing? Ive NEVER messed with the timing and i drove the donor car all the way from Wellington into my garage before the swap so i don't thing the engine could physically be out of time could it? Pretty weird. But i can give it gas it'll stumble a bit and then sit there and idle at about 2500 no problem, give it some more gas and stumble and idle even higher. Throttle cable isn't sticking either. Maybe you have some different ideas? Thanks bud

  4. Alright i was just out there REREREREChecking all of my wiring and all i can come up with is my ECU might be bad? Everything is hooked up perfectly just like it was when i had it draped over the fender so i"ll probably buy that ecu on monday and give that a go. For only $50 i figure i can't go wrong, then after i get this thing running i can start my other FUN projects like installing a lift, installing my disc brakes on the back, and welding up new bumpers and putting on some cool kc type lights. Damn you wiring, damn you forever!
  5. I have power where i need it i think? I've checked and rechecked all of my wires. I annilated that harness!!! haha what the hell was i thinking? Oh well i've pretty much ran new wires to everything. I think i'm gonna run all of my grounds to ground again and not worry about the ones coming out from under the manifold and make sure everything is good, if it is then i am gonna run down to this subaru parts place and pick up another ECU, the guy said he had like 10 of em and sell me one for $50. I remember i accidentaly dropped mine onto the concrete floor when i had it out so maybe, just maybe i broke it? Everything else is hooked up right and my fuel pump even comes on. I was getting really upset but things go even worse when you get super stressed out. Thanks for you help Gloyale you're a true patriot, and when i get this thing running/driving i am gonna post all of my pics!
  6. I am curious as to how everyone else has there airflow sensor hooked up, I have the wiring diagrams that numbchux set me up with from a 92' legacy but they are different from what the wiring diagram is for a 90' Legacy. Also, i am wondering how everyone has there ignitors set up, and what exactly does this thing do? The grounds for the ECU A10, A11, A21, A22, B1, D14, D15, and D24, D25. Do these need to be grounded to the motor or just grounded (like to the strut tower?) On the engine harness one of the gray plugs is all black grounds, where do they go? Do i need to hook them up to certain things? I am really regretting just tearing this harness apart and getting it so screwed up. And the only code my ecu flashes is a water temp signal wrong code. This car just cranks and cranks, doesn't even try to start, i have fuel, don't think i have spark? But most of all i have a headache haha:confused:
  7. So got everything rewired after working in the garage till 9 last night and today ran all of my new wires to everything and even hooked up and mounted my new neutral switch (if it's even necessary) to where my clutch stopper should be. I have every thing but my C10 wire hooked up which i'm pretty sure is why it didn't fire up. I also have a question about the VSS on B58 Pin 11, do i need to hook this up? And if so where to? Also i am curious to know if and where i need to hook up the engine tach output on B56 Pin 16? Is this what is going to make my tach work in the car? Thanks for all your help guys! Only thing i found on hooking up the VSS was for an 84 Subie, mine is an 85' GL and it doesnt have the 2 pin black connector on the back of the speedo, so i don't really know what to do.
  8. EY thanks chux for the diagrams! Very cool. I hope this works, i brought home some shielded wiring left over from work so i might run some new ones for the cam/crank. We'll see if this is gonna work. And the reason i changed it from the way i had it when it ran and was draped over the fender is because i am pulling my wires through the AC line holes in the firewall that are on the pass side and it made more sense for me to just run the wires straight to the sensors opposed to running them all the way over to the harness connectors. I'm gonna head back out to the hot garage and trouble shoot some more, hopefully i get this figured out. Oh and yes i have inline fuses, i hate to burn up the ecu haha. Thanks for the help guys...i can't believe i didn't sign up on this site 10 years earlier!
  9. I am currently in the middle of my EJ22 swap from a 90' Legacy into an 85' GL Wagon and followed numbchux write up which was awesome i couldn't have done without it. I also hung the wiring harness over the fender of the car and door and started the engine and it ran. Okay, so since it ran i decided to fully install. I also decided to run all of my ecu wires through the grommet for the AC, because my car doesn't have it and mount the ecu under the glove box. Well long story short i got it all hooked back up and it will not start! Just cranks. The only thing that i have done different is i hooked up those signal wires (the gray ones with the shield) straight to the sensor instead of going through the engine harness. Does this matter? Does the ecu need to see those shields? Also can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring diagram of the engine harness, like which colors go to what? Thanks a s**tload to anyone who can help!:-\
  10. Hey whats up? Got a couple of questions for ya if you have the time. I am almost done with my EJ22 swap from a 90' Legacy into my 85 GL wagon and i followed your write up word for word and it was awesome thanks for doing it! But i am still having issues of the car not starting, after i installed the ecu and ran all of the wires to their permanent location. Before i did this i just plugged everything in and it started for a few seconds and would die and then it would run for about 5 secs and die. Now it won't even try to start, just cranks. instead of using the wiring harness plugs coming off of the motor i went straight to the sensors on the motor to the ecu, there is 3 engine harness plugs one with yellow and reds, one with all blacks, and one with 3 green wires a blue white and some other ones, am i missing something here? Also it could just be me but you're simplified wiring diagram of the relays kinda threw me off a bit. Thanks!
