Thanks! Yeah they are alot funner than the singe range that's for sure. I even replaced all of the outside trim with GL trim so it says Subaru on the back door instead of Loyale.

Scooner replied to mandrew884's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
There is it's called the Internet haha. Just Google EA81, EA71 etc, there's alot of good info on Wikipedia too. Just burn up that keyboard brother and you'll find what you need like most of us have. -

I'm pretty sure you cannot mate an EA81 up to a top starter mount tranny though. You would have to source a transmission as well that would mate up to the ea81, like a dual range 5 speed and so on. Then you may have to change your rear end if you are going with a 4WD version tranny too so the gear ratios match up. -
Sweet! Mine is a 92 Loyale with a 4" lift, 27x8.50r14 general grabber AT2S and an EJ22 from a 90' Legacy and 5 speed dual range. Love these things. Yours looks like a real solid car too.

EA71 Water Pump Installation
Scooner replied to Brett!'s topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Right on dude! Be sure and clean the surfaces where the new gasket will go, usually scraping with a razor blade works good to get the old gasket off the block. Have fun! -
EA71 Water Pump Installation
Scooner replied to Brett!'s topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Brett, these engines don't have timing belts my man. That belt only drives the alternator and water pump and maybe AC if they were equipped. You are in luck, this is a very simple fix if you get the right water pump. I just went through this with my 80'. Is your EA71 a top starter mount tranny? If so the water pump is different than the wide case or EA81 style. Once you get it off tonight you will see. I got mine from advance auto and the part number is 57-1041. While you are doing it replace the small length of 5/8s coolant hose going to the heater core pipe, it's like 3 inches long. Good time to do new radiator hoses and intake coolant hose with all new clamps. Not a bad idea to put in some new coolant too! Good luck! -
The crazy rump roast Jeeparu
Scooner replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Wow, what a funky ride. I think I know where you live oddly enough, I used to cruise around there and I'd always see this house with lots of subarus around it and always wanted to stop and BS. Coincidentally we might end up moving to the Lyons area in a couple of years for work. Either way...don't somersault the jeeparu! -
Parking lights in front bumper?
Scooner replied to Dinky26's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, at least you can admit your mistake! It happens to everyone every once in a while. I don't know much about the second gen brats but I did know the gl's and loyales the blinkers are down there! -

Aren't those just blinkers dude? If this is a loyale or gl the marker lights are the corner lights next to the headlights. Maybe you are working on something else? -
Dude, that's the only way to keep a constant flow of clean oil through the engine. Another trick you can try is pull that engine and when it's out put an EJ22 in its place...works every time!

That seat came out great Doug! I like the pattern and looks like it matches the inside colors really well.

I can't imagine there being too much electrical you'd have to do, there's no ECU or anything. You're basically just cranking over an EA81 instead of a 71. That is the nice thing about carbed engines! Wait unless you have those dreaded emission testing requirements?

To put at EJ22 in you will have to cut and box the frame rails up front because it is wider than your EA71. However you can drop in an EA81 no problem, if you don't have the top starter mounted tranny. I've got an 80' Brat and have been researching a lot into this. An EJ22 with a 5 speed dual range would be a blast though. -
Does your car have the second Gen tranny? If so then it should be no big deal. I have the best subaru tranny ever...top starter mount single range. Ha not hardly, they're terrible!
-
Nice! Although I bet you guys get sick of the rain about as much I get sick of the wind haha.
-
Wish I had the EA81 in my first gen!

It's cheap because it's shitty haha. We would LOVE to live in the PNW! We still might try some day though, there are no trees here. Gimme some more pics!
-
We've thought of buying 40 acres here by Cheyenne and building an earthship house but it's just so windy and crappy here most of the time. 40 acres for 60k though. Where would the sticks be for you? I also hope to use one of your kits someday as well!

LOVE IT!!! Do your neighbors give you dirty looks because of your subarus like mine do?! Haha
