  1. there is rust there too!! you might have something there.. So would i just remove MC clean it up with a new gasket or seal or change vac pod all together?? never done this before.. but i do have a aprts car so changing vac pod would be no problem..
  2. no i didn't but it was very helpfull, got some new stuff to try.. thnxs..
  3. Ouch.. I did same thing even with a used head and then having it tested and doing it all my self it wasn't cheap.. I hope you used a Subaru head gasket and not an aftermarket one.. I've seen guys save a few $$ and use aftermarket head gasket, and when they were doing the job again 6 months later they woundered exaclty how much thay saved..
  4. thats just it i can't find a leak any where, no puddles of brake fluid any where no drips either.. just gone..
  5. define shooting coolent every where? out the tail pipe? i just bought a 86 turbo the people didn't want to spend any more money on it it was pissing water everywhere too, turns out it was the O ring that goes into the top of the water pump from the rad hose, i put a coat of high heat silicon around it let it dry over night and no more leaks.. Worst case drivers head gasket is a big job but not that challenging i done a few now..
  6. 4 x 4 or not, your only as good as yer tires, i have a set of studded snowies on rims already so when the snow hits, i just swap my 4 summers on rims for my studded snowies on rims.. couldn't be easier, then i'm ready to hit the mountain.. Good Luck
  7. well if you ever come to Vancouver Island BC i got 6 or 7 of em.. :-]
  8. Same thing happened to me 1 time, turned out the coil was bad, worked fine at a low idle or rpm, but when a load was put on it like a hill the coil would fail, hard to detect cause it's hard to work on your car when it's under a load..
  9. Loss of oil presure i'd start by chaning the micky mouse & the oil seals in the oil pump 1st, Loosing power when warm I found starting with a tune up 8 out of 10 times fixes the problem..
  10. I keep going threw brake fluid, but can't find where it is going? normaly if it is a wheel cylinder you will see brake fluid all over the inside of the wheel that has the leaking wheel cylinder.. I have none I searched high and low I can not find brake fluid leaking anywhere.. Followed all the break lines don't see no leaks there either.. no visible leaks at the master cylinder or the hill holder thingy either.. Anyone have this happen to them?? it is a 1990 loyal wagon
  11. Well the story is my daughter over heated the moter and cracked the head on the passenger side, I buy a used head, take it to the machine shop to be presure tested and planed it was a couple thousands out. I installed the new head used the ol' cam and put it back together, took about 3 weeks before the cam let go I think it must have gotten stressed when the head was cracked. But if the new cam snaps in the near future I'll be changing the cam carrier maybe? But when looking closley at where the cam snaped it looks like there are a lot of air pockets in the forged metal, if my digital camera can show it i'll post a pic of the break site. My buddies around here never had a cam snap before i thought if there was a factory problem you guys would be aware of it.. Dosn't everybody shift at 8 grand? :-)
  12. My 2nd post here ever, I just wanted to say hi and offer a helpful tip already I get this in PM: Is it just me? Read my post about (ticking moters) and then I recive this private message, Am I over reacting would you find this offensive too?
  13. This was a great discouvery, does your subaru tick? comes and goes but ticks most of the time? the reason this happeneds is when the seals in the oil pump start getting old and drying out alowing oil to pass by rather then pump it up Simple fix for around $20 is change the seals in your oil pump, when ever I change the belts or water pump (since your in there anyway) change the oil pump seals too.. Use a very thin coat of silcon helps hold the seals in the oil pump while installing it.. Make sure you use oil seals from Subaru only, some things are OK to buy aftermarket for your Subaru but things like Oil Seals & Head Gaskets are not 1 of them..
  14. I thought this was the way to do it, only way I've ever done it.. I did learn a little trick from my Subaru buddy, he uses a ladies small compact mirror to look close making sure timing marks are lined up when done , before putting everything back together..
  15. I never herd of it before, but no it was the passenger side
  16. Hey guys new to the USMB this place sounds way cool, Every member of my family drives a Subaru me my wife and both my daughters. A whole family of Subaru Nuts.. it fact just this past week my wife’s 1985 GL-10 MPFI (custom paint tinted windows very nice) snapped a cam in 1/2 can you believe that? has anyone ever had a cam snap in 1/2 before? it was a little challenging to discover why the wife’s car only seemed to be running on only 3.5 cyl. LOL.. I take the valve cover off after exhausting all other possibilities of why it's running so rough, and turn the motor over by hand I am looking at the front of the cam it’s turning fine, my buddy happened to be looking at the back of the cam and yells “the cam’s not turning” I said “what do you mean I can see it turning?” Our eyes change places he looks at the front I look at the back sure enough the cam is snapped in ½.. :-( Anyway nice to meet ya all.. just want to say Wuzzzzzz UPppppp.....
