So when it's in drive, does the speed go up when you give it gas? If you break an axle in an automatic, it'll send the power to the broken one, even in 4wd.

Yup, check under the rear seat for a rubber grommet right in the middle. Pull it and you should see a bolt head, it's a 17mm or 19mm, that is your torsion adjustment. I think if you "loosen" it, it will lower the rear.

Transmission Swap (85 Brat)
[HTi]Johnson replied to wolfwrangler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check this out, it's in the Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual (USRM). This is the write up... and this are some notes of interest. The USRM is a link to the top right the USMB page. GD, he's new, he needs to be shown the path. -
anyone heard of acetone in the fuel

Ah man . I can remember when this thread was brand new. That's crazy that you got an %11 increase. Keep us up to date on if it's a fluke or what. I tried this, to no noticable difference in gas mileage...then again, I had a gas sucking turbo. -
::Insert shameless plug:: I know a company that can make you a sweet bumper with hitch.

How much of a difference in horsepower is the EA81 with the SPFI mod than an EA82 spfi?

You could do as I did with my offroad wagon. I took the ignition out completely. I wired one of those switches with the red protective cover to turn the ignition on and another to turn the accessories on. Looks pretty cool. I still have a push button. Come to think of it, if I didn't know better, I'd think that all subes came with push button, all 5 of my old gens had them, before I owned them...weird.

They make "Starter Buttons" that are built to take the load of starting.

I think I'm addicted. I hit this page up everytime I goto my computer, it's almost my homepage...my email is right now. I get a kick out of everyone's posts and rides...I feel some sort of connection with everyone here...is there a SAA(Subaru Addicts Anonymous)?

A full day of nothing....
[HTi]Johnson replied to subynut's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well all have these days... Mine was yesterday, I've driving my RX since I sold my outback. It's been fun, but with a 4eat, not too fun. I broke a timing belt, it has less than 10k on it too... Hope you get your car running soon, with ease. -
to brownie or not to brownie...

If you're into four wheeling, get a newer car and use the wagon for off road fun. I'll tell you this...you'll regret getting rid of the old gen. -
How hard is it to find this car with a DR?
[HTi]Johnson replied to bigo1966's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Pretty hard, I have an '89 RX that's a 4speed automatic:rolleyes:. Some people don't believe me. -
I think it's your ignition switch. What some people do is put in a starter switch that goes directly to the starter. Read this thread...

And more deadly . With a EJ20t in it...that thing would fly...I bet it doesn't weigh more than 1500lbs.

Check the fuel filters....there's 2. One in the engine bay and one in front of the passenger rear tire, next to the fuel pump. On top of a protective plate. REplace those and see if it helps. But if you're going to run gas cleaner through the gas, I'd get another set of filters so you can replace the new ones after you run the cleaner through the tank of gas. Because the cleaner will cause some crud to get loose and go straight into the filter. Adjusting the idle isn't going to fix it, just masks the problem.

Kind of cult-ish eh? I love it.

I love the fact that everyone here is to help. They put their knowledge in and if it's wrong, they aren't flamed, too bad. Everyone is pretty cool, we all have our moments though. The fact that you can post some busted a$s car on here and you aren't going to get ridiculed like some other forums where the point is to show up one another. We take pride in our cars and what we can do with them. This is a very genuine group. I've read posts of people going to other people's houses to help dig a ditch that one person couldn't do by himself. The comradery. The fact that if you need a part, you'll probably get it from here and not for an arm and a leg. Ok Ok I'm done.

Ah I don't like AMCs. Just a personal experience with em. So, does the brat still run?

torque converter install
[HTi]Johnson replied to cookie1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You gotta make sure the shafts all go in correctly. The middle one is the easiest, the smaller one takes some time, just put it in and twist a little bit. Check how far it's sticking, pull it out a little bit and instert again, see if it's sticking in the same amount. Do that a couple times, as long as it goes in the same amount, I'd do it once more then call it good. -

Picture of output ports piping EA82T to turbo ?

Look like this...there's another port on the end (to the left).
