  1. I think I got mine for $1.20 each. I was offering to sell him 2 for that price. They'd fit in a regular postage envelope.
  2. GD was right on with everything he said, except I don't trust the Haynes manual, it doesn't say to have one cam sprocket up and the other down. Here's MilesFox's Timing Belt Procedure I'd trust it over a Haynes. And, since your doing the timing belts, reseal the oil pump (If your mechanically inclined) it's not too hard. Just search for a how-to or ask. If that doesn't solve the ticking, try some ATF in the oil or Seafoam (It's an additive). I'd do 1/2 quart of ATF. Just make sure to drain 1/2 quart of oil. You kinda have to drive it hard...high rev shifts. It's always worked for me. Once the ticking stops change the oil. If a belt breaks, they are non-interference engines...just replace the belts and get on your way. If you feel like you should replace that O-Ring GD was talking about, PM I have 10 or so I could send ya (they make you by 12 minimum.) Also, you don't have to pull the engine to to the belts, just remove the radiator. Some people don't even remove the radiator, I do though.
  3. I'd go with these They are 27x14x7 tractor tires, which I have 14" Toyota rims for. Of course, not for road driving. I Dont think they'd make a good interface (road/offroad) tire.
  4. Ok, I looked and looked for this number, but couldn't find it. So I had to do the work myself (Wah wah). Here is the Rancho Part Number to the 4" longer shock that fits the ea81. RS5241
  5. Ea82s do use a carrier bearing. All EA82 shafts are 2piece (that I know of). I take it you don't want to use an EA82 driveshaft? An EA82 manual driveshaft should fit, you just have to mount the carrier bearing. Some people weld them on to the body, I weld nuts to the body and use bolts. BUt they are the same length as EA81s. If you can get an EA82 driveshaft and go that way, you could avoid taking any chances of anything going wrong. I'm assuming you know about this and this? They are links to the "How to manual" of installing 5speeds into ea81s.
  6. That's crazy that your steering and master cylinder are on the turbo side. You'd think they would have moved the turbo. I know I know, cost efficiency and all. Nice job though. Just looked at the picture, there's a slight problem with the distributor placement.
  7. What did you use to block the water port? Any chance of it failing?
  8. Lucky. I'm at 4000-4200 at 70, with stock 175's on. I do have a 4speed though.
  9. That's what I would say, the O2 connectors are usually a blade type connector. The Female end is on the car side and the male is on the sensors side, at least that's how it was on my GL-10
  10. What is the court of law going to look at for you killing someone while towing anything with a 1983 Subaru Wagon? It's going to look at the specs of the car during the time of manufacture. Sure, you can tow anything with your Subaru, but when someone gets killed for your ignorance (no matter what crazy trailer towing skills you have) you're more than likely going to be found at fault and probably thrown in jail. I'm not sure about other states, but we have regulations that state what is needed to tow what weights and what axles and what not. Enforced by the weighmaster. But what you do is your business. It's your decision. I'm not saying I'm not perfect, I have towed a dirtbike with a trailer behind my 87 Turbo Wagon and 83 wagon, but I did accept the responsibility for it.
  11. I'm not too familar with how the EA81 works, with the vacuum controls, that only help the car with a cold start...I'm drawing a blank. (Had a rough new year's.) I'd suggest checking the vacuum lines to everything. Sorry for the lack of help.
  12. So, if you do that in a toyota, don't your feet get muddy because you have to lock the hubs, if you forgot?
  13. :confused:How's this thread still unlocked? Seems like an "I gotta get the last word in!" Argument.
  14. I'd check the rear driveshaft. Jack it up and put one hand on the driveshaft, then one hand on the circle part of the differential, then try to rotate the drive shaft one way and the differential part the other way. Any play equals bad ujoint. Maybe the bolts that connect the shaft to the diff are loose?
  15. Nice, how's $1000 steep? If it's something you want, get it. Just because you wouldn't buy it doesn't mean you have to *************** on his parade. He seems happy that he owns it. Good find. Hope it works for ya.
  16. I do too have one like Skip's. But it was on my GL-10, but, it's just sitting around now, as the GL-10 went to the crusher . Mine's 2.25" all the way back to a glasspack. I had a flowmaster on it, it sounded ok.
  17. I punched a small hole on each side, with a metal punch (go figure) so the water will drain. I also put a little primer on the bottom side of the punch hole so it wouldn't rust. Gives me some time to look for the leak. That was on my RX too.
  18. Maybe we should have this moved to off-topic. It's not about thrills. It's about being there when people are in their most need. People say that Firefighters and EMTs are sadistic because they sit there and hope for bad things to happen to people so they can respond. We know that bad things are going to happen to people and we want to be there for them when it happens. A Paramedic has to get an Associates degree( I know it's not a very high degree) on top of the EMS classes to be a Paramedic, in Oregon and then they have to continuously train in order to keep their Certification. Take that into account, the thrills aren't so cheap, especially when someone or an EMT/Firefighter dies. They tried getting me to enlist to be a "Combat Medic" and I would have, but they said my prior history of asthma wouldn't allow me to join.
  19. Yeah, must be over my head that you somehow related someone's Subaru to the U.S. government. I do get your point. Oh yeah, as for stupid people, I like them, they're a good chunk of why there's a Fire/EMS service. (My occupation.) What's stupid is the fact that I bought a '98 Outback Limited for $6,000 and then the HGs went out on me a month later. Must've been the hippies(prior owners) not taking care of it.
  20. I agree with GD, but there's no need to be sorry. But since, you got the rack already...you could install it, unless you can return it for a refund. Either route, alignment is needed afterwards.
  21. So who decides what's stupid? And how does he spending $7000 on a car affect my tax money? If anything it helps the economy. Basic economics...you save your money, companies aren't getting it, companies not getting any money don't make a taxable profit...no taxable profit means no money for the government. Spend your money, you buy products, products that are made by employess who make wages, wages that are taxed, the company makes money on the product, which is taxed. The more invidual sources the government can tax, the less each individual is taxed. So, if anything, he helps the economy and makes less taxes for me. So, I do agree with "this kind of mentality"
