Got a Free Subaru, what now?
[HTi]Johnson replied to Maxim's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
oh...i forgot he mentioned 2wd. -
this downpipe is 2.25" od that's a significant increase from the what 1.5" I.D. of the old exahust. THe stock pipe looks big, but it is a pipe with a heat shield. This downpipe provides more flow than stock...considering how the stock one has a huge catylitic convertor on it.

do you have a pic of the bellmouth system?

well a 5 spd dual range tranny can be anywhere from free to $150 (i wouldn't pay more than that) It's a pretty easy swap...if you have some mechanical know how. I converted my GL-10 from an AT to 5spd dual range. I was lucky though, XSNRG (a board member) was cool and sold me all the stuff I needed for $200. for the conversion you'll need Tranny Driveshaft fly wheel (flywheel to crank bolts and pressure plate bolts too) Clutch kit tranny crossmember the center console all the shift linkage and hardware and about 6 solid hours of work. Oh yeah, we're all here to help you if you need it. -
I'll get back to you about making you one...I have to work out the transistion from the new downpipe to the old mid-pipe. But still leave the option for the new mid pipe. I can tell you that the DP wouldn't cost much...it cost me $40 to have it bent up. I could probably make them around $60-$75. Let me look into it. Oh yeah guys, these are racing downpipes...yeah racing....

Hey all. I made this downpipe...what do you think...I might be able to make more Oh yeah, I didn't bend the tube...I wish I could, it's too thin guage for the machines I have access to, But I had a muffler shop do the bending, I did the rest.

Hello all. My friend's and I are going on a road trip to northern California. The Redding area. It'll be from Eugene straight down the I-5. But this is the first that my GL-10 has been on this long of a trip. I was just wondering if I could get some emergency numbers,of people in the area, for the unlikely event of a break down. I'll be leaving here around 7:00pm. Thursday the 21st. Thanks everyone. [HTi]Johnson

Refrigerator in My Driveway?
[HTi]Johnson replied to Seahag1978's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think they are asking "What is a refridgerator?" as in literal terms. Maybe they call it something else. A fridge is an icebox....let me find a dictionary defintion Bam -
cooling woes... overheated the TW
[HTi]Johnson replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you should have 2 fans, unless your AC isn't stock. I always thought all AC subarus had two electric fans...I know my EA82t did. as far as I knew, it never had an engine driven fan. Oh yeah, the AC fan turns on with the AC system. -

Anyone recognize this tranny?
[HTi]Johnson replied to mr_whirly's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Looks like a newer tranny. It has a hydraulic clutch. Does it have a rear output shaft? -
Hello all. I built a nice 2.25" I.D. pipe downpipe for my 1987 GL-10. I installed it all nice like....then I realized I forgot the o2 hole. DANG IT. So I'm running without it for now...which it doesn't seem like it has changed much....maybe it's been dead? Any suggestions?

That green connector DOES bypass something. I know you connect them together to time the car. Then disconnect them when you are done. There should be a black connector by them, that shuold be disconnected too. That is to read codes on the PCM LED(Light). Do a search, you'll find the point of that. Connecting the green connectors is like plugging the vacuum advance on a mechanical Distributor. If the green connector is connected, you car is running in a mode that isn't meant for driving. I believe that the computer won't adjust the fuel to air ratio...i'll stop talking now...probably way off track. But I DO know those connectors.

Is it the alarm on the trip computer. mine has a alarm clock that beeps just once when it reaches the programmed time. Just once...how is that supposed to wake someone up who can sleep through fire alarms?

Can you get the punch out. My friend had this problem when he put his axle in and somehow got the pin in when the holes were 180' off. We beat the crap out of it. Finally I noticed that after all the beating, the pin was basically in the middle of the stub. On both sides, so I just busted out the crowbar and did some crowbartherapy on it. Nah, I just pried the axle cup off. With the pointy end on the cup and lever'd against the diff. I assumed the cup was harder steel than the pin.

Very nice. How you going to mount it? I made the mistake of mounting mine to the body...then I looked at a 2.5 RS and it was mounted to the top two bolts that mate the engine to the tranny...mounted with brackets of course. I'm going to have to make some for my IC. Very nice I paid a total of $75 for mine, it had the BOV. Your's looks better!
