My friends have driven everywhere in Disabled 4wd mode. (Broke front axle) Like hundred of miles on Highway and in city driving. I wouldn't be too worried.

Where can I find a semi-complete engine rebuild kit for a Justy? Or just Main bearings, rod bearings and rings.

Stupid Auto Parts Stores.
[HTi]Johnson replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Everythign I have received from auto parts stores have been the wrong parts. Except I ordered them from Brian, he works at Napa, and is on this board. Hey brian you still here? One shop gave me a wire set, that had 5 plug wires and a coil wire. WTF man. [HTi]Johnson -
That STi engine...isn't going in that brat in the background?
-
Well first off. What kinda car is it(year, and injected or carb'd?). If I infer right, it's an EA81 because you don't mention a 5th gear. did you replace BOTH fuel filters? One in the engine bay and one next to the fuel pump. You did say that you replaced the pump, so you might have replaced it. What kinda plugs did you put in?

head torquing sequence
[HTi]Johnson replied to thesilverbullet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok when you are putting them on, hopefully you took them out from the outside in. You put them on from the middle and work your way out 9 2 4 6 ---1 7 5 3 8 Hopefully that helps. Did you want torque specs? did you check in the first pages of chapter 2? Oh yeah WELCOME TO THE BOARD. It's the most valuable thing, to me, about subarus. -
Half shaft questions
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess what I am trying to do is make it so when I land hard my car doesn't recoil and compress hard. I want it to take a 12 to 24 inch drop without hitting really hard. -
Half shaft questions
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah I have a dirt bike a yz250 1998. But I was just toying with the idea. How is the strut suspension limited? Educate me everyone! -
Hey all. I was wondering what vehicle has half shafts that the middle parts slides into and over each other. Not a subaru, but a jeep or toyota, that's where I think someone said. I was thinking of making them work in my GL-10 for some serious travel (up and down). Unless there's a secret someone wants to tell me.

Optic disty's are used in EA82s with fuel injection...or is it strictly a turbo thing? . They are electronically advanced. And your's is vacuum advanced. The optic means there is a disc in there and has 360 slits in it, and on one side of it, there is an LED(Light emitting diode) and on the other side is a photo reactive cell(forgot the spiffy term) and it pretty much sends the light through the slits and the cell tells the computer "light-no light-light-no light" I believe that is for the crank posistion sensor. If you have a vacuum advance disty, I wouldn't worry about a dust cover. I have an optic disty with no cover...I've never seen covers on any optic disty....is that bad? EDIT: I don't know if they are used in EA81 turbos.

Falls on its face... Dealer stumped
[HTi]Johnson replied to Boo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about your injector plug wires. I had one loose, and it was doing the same thing as your's. How are the plug wires? What about plugs, my friend had two plugs pretty much explode in the cylinder. Cap and rotor? GOod? -
GL & GL-10 differences ?
[HTi]Johnson replied to FirstSubaruGLwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah, you gotta tell us what is what. What does the GL have and what does the GL-10 have. The GL-10 might have a different spline count on the inner CV(Double offset joint) than the GL. Because it is a turbo. Someone will explain better than me. But interior stuff like seats and console will swpa with no prob. So i think the major differences with the GL-10 is Turbo'd, it may have air stuts (tend to be a bad thing, but you can swap your GL's struts into, with little mod'ing, if any). More specific info, will get ya more specific answers . [HTi]Johnson -
Off road-cool bumpers??
[HTi]Johnson replied to peskyjiggler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What kind? Do some searching, they are tube bumpers and channel bumpers. Tube bumpers are more expensive. I was thinking of getting into fabbing them up. But all the politics on this board...I don't think i want to get into it. But I might! -
88 Gl Wagon Won't Start Suggestions?
[HTi]Johnson replied to silverracerkh2005's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Belts should be replaced every 60,000miles. No, you shouldn't have to take the engine out. This is really helpful Timing Belt Check and Adjustment Good luck. -
having trouble reving past 3k
[HTi]Johnson replied to dneufeld's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it's running in limp home mode. -
Hello All. I would like a quote for a reasonable price for EA82 rear swing arms and struts. Used. I'm trying to make a deal with someone who has them. :-p We just don't know what a reasonable price would be.

having trouble reving past 3k
[HTi]Johnson replied to dneufeld's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What kinda work have you done to this car? Are you getting spark to all spark plugs? You check the plugs?...I assume you did all the basic trouble shooting, but I like to sound like I know what I am doing. It could be a clogged catylitic convertor..(one or both). If you messed with the timing belts...it could be running on two cylinders(I've done that) -
Buy it. It's not hard at all, to do all those things. The hardest part...would be the half shaft. but that would take like an hour. AS long as you know what to do, which you could, if you ask the board. Very worth buying.

Im liking FI less and less
[HTi]Johnson replied to CHIM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You took the pipe that ran from the top of the thermostat housing to the intake? That's bad. It's required. As I look at it more...this is an ea81?! -
1980 GL Automatic tranny
[HTi]Johnson replied to captainkettel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes. try to adjust it. In a Haynes manaul, it tells you how. I got a car because that same reason. If I remember right, it's on the driver's side of the tranny. right above the oil pan. You need to loosen the big nut and turn the small nut clockwise, just a little bit...not too tight, because it could wear the band out too much. I did mine a little at a time... here this may help http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17203 -
88 GL-10 Bogs down when accelerator is pressed
[HTi]Johnson replied to waddon5's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Gl-10 right? Is it turbo'd. Fuel injected or carb'd? Did you make sure to plug the line that went from the Intake manifold to the Auto matic tranny? If not, that will create an intake leak.
