Where to mount rollcage
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
FSU(fook stuff up) of course . I like to drive fast on gravel...so I was thinking I might rally and I wanted to be smart about it. I knew about using plates...thanks for reminding me...i forgot. I guess I'll have to look at cars with them. THANKS! [HTi]Johnson -
In an EA82 wagon, where would YOU mount an internal rollcage...? If you have pics...please direct them to me. THANKS [HTi]Johnson

Hello. Will an EA82 Subaru GL Sadan hood fit on a EA82 Subaru GL-10 wagon? Thanks.

Blessed with the T.O.D!!!
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
FIXED IT! That's right. No more T.O.D. I did an oil change...with 15x40w Castrol High Mileage and a new filter. with 1/4qt ATF. I drove it normal for about 10 miles. Then I got pissed when it didn't fix. SO I reamed on it...high RPMS....like 7000 to 7500. For about 1 mile. THen I putted around about 1/2 mile then reamed on it and it faded away. YES!! -

NO NO NOt piston slap...!! I was asking if it could lose power because the knock sensor could be sensing the massive tapping. And wouldn't bad lifters make it so the valves open later? THis is coming from one side also...the driver's. -
Yeah I started my car up today ...first I thought I was getting an exhaust leak...nope...it just got worse... So, I went to the store and got supplies for the oil change. But before I left, for the store, I put in a 1/2 qt of ATF...20 miles...and still noise.(That worked for me last time,MMO didn't.). SO I'm kinda thinking that my oil thinned out...way out... I bought Castrol High Mileage 15-40. Tomorrow I will do the change and report back... And would the T.O.D. mess with the knock sensor? Because the car's drivablilty sure did goto crap...it lugs in low rpms and kinda misses in high. I only posted this because this is the worst tick I have ever heard... 1987 GL-10 Turbo.

I think I bought a Lemon :( Help!
[HTi]Johnson replied to Rodm21's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey man, don't sweat and don't take it to a mechanic. You can probably do all the work yourself. As for that noise in the timing cover area...i'd say it was your idler pulley falling off(coming un bolted) and that caused the belt to pop off. There are two belts (one for each cam gear). Just pop the outter covers off and see if the belts are on each gear. And Inspect them. Believe me, belt replacement is not that hard. Oh, if your belt breaks or anything of that nature, nothing will happen to the engine...AKA your valves won't hit the piston...you just won't have a running car until the belts are replaced. That hole, right next to the exhaust port...my car has one too...I believe it is just a casting design... The squeaking....take the belt off the water pump, and move the pump pulley up and down..and in and out..if it moves more than a fraction of a millimeter...i'd say it's in need of replacement. I hope this helps and don't get discouraged by this. Once you get it running, you will have yourself a very reliable car. [HTi]Johnson -

Rear jump seats for brat/brumby
[HTi]Johnson replied to Brumby Boy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
IN Oregon, I believe the law is you must have all the seats with belts available filled first, then you can pile in the back, but since there is belts with the jump seats no problem. My friend and I are going to install some into his brat...some one cut them out along the line...so we went to the junkyard with a small generator and a cut off grinder...got the whole setup for $50.!!! [HTi]Johnson Oh yeah, if you look in the back of your Brumby...you'll either see spots by the cab, on each side, that have threaded holes or just raised squares in the bed, that's where the belt buckles are fastened. I'll try to get you pics. -
WOW Here's my background

I"ve always thought that you "down under folks" we're crazy. This makes it a fact. You wouldn't need a coffin if you crashed on that thing...just a mop and a bucket. [HTi]Johnson Oh yeah, that'd be sweet if it had a suicide shifter on it...

Intercooler Installed!!(pics)
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I will have a hood scoop installed once I get the time to. I know I need to cool the air, why do you think I installed the intercooler in the first place. -

[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Actually, I only have the IC mounted at the two points on the sides...i made bushings. I was thinking of running a pipe into the fender and mounting the filter there. [HTi]Johnson -

[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah I was thinking about that. "THe colder the air going into the turbo, the colder it will be coming out" I'll think of a way to get it into the fender. THanks. [HTi]Johnson -
Hey, thanks to everyone that helped me get this done. Next up is the hood scoop. That's a close one aint it? Now, I haven't changed the timing...should I? I noticed I lug around 4grand sometimes. Oh yeah, I was going for the "Cleanest Intercooler Install"...but that dude with the front mount owned. [HTi]Johnson

Can anyone tell me where this wire goes?
[HTi]Johnson replied to North Ursalia's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
HOLY CRAP...that reminds me of Brads wagon...and somehow he got it together...might want to ask him... subaru_styles is his member name. -
I was thinking of putting megasquirt in my turbo wagon....GL-10. That would be down the line. I've seen people make their own intake/inlet manifolds....they just made plates that bolt to the head, the same shape as the head ports....and welded a tube from one water port to the other...with a vertical pipe on each intake/inlet part...to a carb. Austrailians are awesome. I want to move there...how hard would that be?..Seriously. [HTi]Johnson

I second the fuel filter possiblity. There are two. One in engine bay, and one in front of the rear passenger tire. [HTi]Johnson P.S. Hey Derek where do you live in Oregon?
