  1. EA82 axles are too long. The outside splines are the same between turbos and non turbos. What you may have to do is put the ea82 inner cup on an EA81 axle. It's not too hard. This is all hypothesized as I have never swapped an EA82 tranny into an EA81. But I know the axles are longer because the parts guys decided to give me an EA81 axle for my EA82 one time.
  2. I have too, aren't they a different thread pitch though? Because I've had to run a die down the head bolts.
  3. People who build lifts usually don't go that route. This is the common route. It's been off road tested, very rigorously. I'm having problems with the body itself giving out...that bolt method is %100 still. Also, those are standard 7/16" bolts on the bottom.
  4. You need this bad boy You feed it from the outside of the car, through the hub, screw it to the axle, then tighten the nuts and it pulls the axle through the hub while keeping everything inline. Of course, I don't have one of these bad boys, just know of them. You can pay $80 for one here.
  5. That is a good point. I noticed that. I like my lifted Subarus, but I'm not offended that your non-lifted car and go anywhere mine can. As for bigger tires...it sure doesn't help the 4 cylinder engine either. I lifted mine so I can have longer travel...oh, it's not going to be stock suspension...the plans on in the making. But ya, who ever gets offended probably paid to have the lift installed too.
  6. I put a FT4wd tranny in my 89 RX that had a 4eat, I want the computer to go into manual tranny mode. Thanks, Justin
  7. ...and what do I ground/unground to make an ECU "think" it's a manual? Thanks, Justin
  8. The swap isn't that hard. It's is worth every minute of work. You can get a flywheel from a board member for cheap. I may have one laying around...they are shippable through a $13 flat rate box. The auto trans is iffy in a stock Brat, you put a lift on it, you'll want bigger tires and that means the auto trans is less than desirable.
  9. So..this is what a 4" looks like. PM me if you want some info on how to get the rear lifted.
  10. Hello, I was wondering if a cat back system from a 2000 Impreza would fit my 1998 Legacy Outback. I searched but to no avail. Thanks, Justin.
  11. I've rebuilt every lifter, replaced the oil pump and seals. Ran seafoam, Marvel's Mystery oil, ATF, every grade of oil, many different brands of oil, and every oil filter I could find....still have the tick. I'm going to replace the block and tear into the old one and see if I can find an occlusion somewhere.
  12. I agree. www.sjrlift.com is a great source for a very good looking lift. I don't think he provides extended brake lines and steering linkage. Those are pretty much the only things you'll need including the lift.
  13. Very easy. Especially on ea82s. You'll need flywheel, clutch kit, pedal assembly, clutch cable, driveline, 3.9 rear diff, speedometer cable and maybe front axles. I don't think you'll ned front axles because I've done the same exact swap that you are looking into and didn't need to replace axles. You'd be glad you replaced it.
  14. Was it a recovered stolen vehicle before you got to it with a "new ignition switch"? That's crazy that they interchage that far back. As for the fan going on and off...maybe it was a coincidence? I also say replace the ignition switch and see if the problems still occur.
  15. +1. If it is an ea82, just 4 14mm(head) bolts that hold the bumper on.
  16. Or your car could be like my RX. No matter what I do...MMO, SeaFoam, Risolone, or ATF...nothing makes it go away. I even took all the lifters apart and cleaned them. And replaced the oil pump too. I use Subaru oil filters. Full Synthetic, Synthetic blend, conventional oil. Mobil 1, Castrol, Penzoil, and Wal-Mart's super tech even. 10w-30, 20w-50, straight 30w are all things I've tried. So I hope I'm not a downer. I'm going to replace the engine and then take the ticking one completely apart and investigate. I think overheating had something to do with my ticking issue. I know the prior owner overheated it.
  17. I use to make those units and sell them. I have one sitting around that I was going to put in my RX, harness is all ready to go and everything. I kinda got sidetracked... I'm going to try it again, soon.
  18. You could get a MAF adapter for a later years Nissan and it bolts to the intake of an EA82...turbo. The SPFI make be different. I did that and put a cone filter on it. What ever you do, make sure that the MAF is supported from bouncing around...it'll destroy the element.
  19. If you just put the engine in you'll be fine. If your putting the engine in the car with a standard transmission, just use the intake and sensors from that car...as for the most part the engines are the same.
  20. Have you checked the procedure? Here's a good write up. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50768
