I know you said you gave it a good tune up...if this is an EA81...did you replace BOTh fuel filters? I'm not sure if the EA82s have 2...I know that MPFI doesn't. There is the one in the engine bay and the one in front of rht passenger rear tire. Right above some protective plating. [HTi]Johnson

New Lift Kit on the market
[HTi]Johnson replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
I'm thinking of lifting my Subaru. 3 inches. I wouldn't buy anyone's lift. I'd build it myself. How? I'd put the car on stands and start taking things off that would allow the body to be lifted 3inches and fab as needed. And, I'd take notes and possibly sell the lift. Would I be infringing on anyone's ideas/designs if I have never looked close enough at a kit and built my own? What if some of the ideas were similar? Would I not be allowed to sell them? Isn't that how the free market works? Someone makes a product...then another improves it...then the other one makes their's better...that's good for the buyers...because that means they get a better product, cheaper. I might even make bumpers and roof racks...but I'm held back by my conscience...I know mudrat...I'd feel like I am stealing his business. It'll be months before I get around to the lift...it'd be on my old green car...I sold ...but by then, hopefully I can buy it back. Well, good luck with your lifts. I agree with the others...the more parts available for Subarus the better. Don't be discouraged...keep the kits in the market...unless you get in some legal trouble. [HTi]Johnson -

EA82T Intercooler Qs
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh yeah I Have a WRX intercooler. I'm planning on putting it on my 1987 GL-10 Turbo (of course) [HTi]Johnson -
Hello. I was just wondering how people routed/mounted all the components for a top mount intercooler on a MPFI manifold...that isn't a spider intake. So...send me some pics PLEASE. Thanks. and Good night. [HTi]Johnson

can an ea82 handle hydrogen power
[HTi]Johnson replied to dragonwingsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I was thinking of making a hydrogen Fuel cell..but something with needing platinum mesh or something for the hydrogen nucleus to pass through as the electron goes through the "wire" stopped me. But I would have used the abundance of wind here in oregon...maybe solar to break apart the water atoms but....harnessing Hydrogen seems like a task in it's self. But, I watched on the Discovery channel. about the dangers of packing hydrogen tanks in cars...it's not that bad...because hydrogen will almost immediately bond with the oxygen in the air...if the tank was breached...yea....blah blah blah...I'll keep following this post. I know where to get vacuum lines...I meant where do they run from...from where to the to the blow off. Sorry for the unclearness. But thanks for all the info. I do have a 1987 Digi dash. What usually goes bad with an alternator? [HTi]Johnson
-
Hello. #1 I got my WRX intercooler in today:headbang:. I was wondering on where do i get the vacuum line for the blow off valve, I know it needs vacuum to open.(the diaphram does). #2 All my idiot lights are on even if the ignition is on. Any suggestions on why? #3 My lights pulsate the faster I go, I'm assuming it's the alternator not being to make up for all the spark. #4 When I turn on my heater controls any of them, my temp guage shoots UP to max, then when I turn it off in 30 seconds it goes down back to normal.

a cool cooling question???
[HTi]Johnson replied to baggyshorts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The other fan was for AC, you should be able to turn it on by turning the AC function on in the car. As for the heater core? Keep it in there so if you car does get a little hotter than it should be, you could set it on AC with the tempature switch on HOT and it will blow air by the heater core and cool it off and the AC switch would turn on the secondary fan. I've had the heater trick cool down a car pretty fast. My two cents. [HTi]Johnson -
I believe i saw a EA82 wagon in the TRuman Show. I had to be a Subaru, he drove it right to the ocean, on the sand, when that chick was trying to tell Truman that it was all fake. It had a stock rack, and sun roof, it was too dark to be certain...but the headlights and taillights looked like a EA82. I think it was a GL. OK, so what...I'm bored. [HTi]Johnson

Hey Lukas, why did you put it away for the winter? Is it because of they salt the roads there?

EA82t Crossover pipes Qs
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OOOH!! Pretty turbo. I was thinking of TRYING to make an equal length crossover pipe...out of 1.5" tube of .095 wall...so that makes it likea little smaller than 1.375"(1 and 3/8th inch) [HTi]Johnson EDIT: Oh yeah, the reason I can't make it bigger is because of my resources...everything I have access to is for some heavy duty tube. (I work for an Ornamental Iron company:-p) -
How to muscle off stuck valve covers?
[HTi]Johnson replied to Bratenstein's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey they won't budge that should mean no leaks? Don't fix what's not broken . Yeah...well...won't budge? They are made of steel...i'm sure they can take a beating. I'd pry them off. Yeah EA81s only have two bolts. Maybe some PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil around the covers? [HTi]Johnson -
How big is the I.D. (Inside Diameter) of a stock crossover pipe? and what would be the perfect size for a happy medium...you know...not too laggy and pretty good topend? [HTi]Johnson

New motor in and running, in a crappy way
[HTi]Johnson replied to singletrack's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How think is the oil you put in there? And what brand? I have heard, and done myself, that you can put 1/2 quart of ATF or Marvel's Mystery oil in there...ATF worked for me, I tried Marvel's before...to no avail. [HTi]Johnson -

EA81 Steering Wheel Replacements
[HTi]Johnson replied to Bro's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd say all of the same engine class...that's what I think. You know EA81 to EA81, EA82 to EA82, maybe even EA82 to EA81 or vice-versa. [HTi]Johnson -
I'd say the engine just needs to be resealed(Valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, water pump and gasket, oil pump and gasket) not hard to do yourself. You are probably dripping oil from the front, if so, It's probably the oil pump seal or "Mickey Mouse Gasket" because it looks like mickey mouse's head. As for the tranny? How's the gear oil look? You said the clutch is slipping? Could that be why it kinda grinds when you put it in reverse. Or could the idle be too high? I wouldn't be dead set on getting a rebuilt engine/tranny just yet. If it was me. I would replace the gear oil in the tranny. Pull the engine and reseal it, and replace the water and oil pump...or have it done if time/space do not allow for yourself to do it. When the engine is pulled, i'd get a new clutch pack (Pressure plate, clutch, and pilot bearing) and get the flywheel turned or a new(ish) one. LIke from the junkyard...or even a fellow board member. Then I'd put it all back together and see if it still has the reverse problem. Welcome to the boards and we're glad to have you join.! Don't be afraid of asking what you might think are "Noob" questions. I ask them all the time, they don't seem to mind. [HTi]Johnson

Well, to neutralize it, you need to pour baking soda on it...this will neutralize it, but probably make a mess. :-\ [HTi]Johnson
