[HTi]Johnson replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Woh woh, I'm lost. He asked if he can take the Hyrdo lifters and put them on a non hydro head? (In place of adjustable rocker arms?) ..I was thinking about that...so is it possible? [HTi]Johnson -

need advice please tranny swap
[HTi]Johnson replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
All right. Gear ratios between AT and MT are different. AT is 3.7 and MT is 3.9. No matter if D/R or not.The axles...they should work between AT and MT, unless it's turbo, I believe the outter splines are different on turbos. So when you do yuo swap, you'll need to get a 3.9 rear differential... I've done a swap from AT to 4spd D/r in an EA81, and I am planning a AT to 5spd D/R swap next week in my turbo GL-10. OH yeah, the rear drivelines are different between AT and MT. You'll need that too. A list of what I think you'll need: Tranny Flywheel,Clutch set Tranny crossmember 3.9 Rear Diff Rear Driveline Center Console Pedal assembly(Clutch Pedal) Clutch Cable Shift lever and Dual range selector ALL hardware (DiD I miss anything?) You might be lucky and find someone with all this stuff in the subaru marketplace. PM me if you have any questions. Welcome to the boards, fellow oregonian [HTi]Johnson -

Is there a difference in Head gaskets for a turbo and non turbo 1987 GL-10.
-
Goodmorning everyone. Happy new year. This morning I just discovered a leak under my car(1983 GL Wagon). It's accumalating on the crossmember and dripping down to the ground. I checked the heater hoses, and the two main hoses for leaks...nothing. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine. Some guy said something about "Freeze plugs" in the engine of other makes of cars. Is this true with Subarus? Has anyone else had this problem? COuld a Head Gasket blown on the edge of a coolant line and the outside of the head? Thanks for your time. [HTi]Johnson

I know you said you've checked everything, how about a fuel filter? I've had vehicles not start and we've tried everything and then replaced the fuel filter...started right up [HTi]Johnson

Runs and dies 93 Loyale
[HTi]Johnson replied to subpennyman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You didn't mention that you replaced the fuel filter? Did you? If not, you should. You could try disconnecting the battery for about a hour, then hooking it back up.(This will caused the computer to relearn the car.The computer might be used to no air, or something) I've done that (after a tune up, on a toyota)and it started up. Good Luck [HTi]Johnson -
I believe 1 is the one closest to the intake. like this engine 1 3 4 2 front of car

You exhaust might be cracked. Do you hear any noises coming from the underneath of you car? like a buzzing or fuzzy noise? If you do, check under the car for any discoloration in the exhaust pipe (blackness). Is you hatch closed all they way?(Dumb question, sorry) How about your trim? Is it worn out? Sorry I couldn't help ya much. Welcome to the board, I'm sure we'll help ya find a solution. [HTi]Johnson

HELP! 1984 EA81: Starter won't spin!
[HTi]Johnson replied to subieman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try running a wire from the battery to the starter switch? make sure the car isn't in gear and the E brake is on. If that makes it spin...you have a bad ignition switch...I had that prob...I just made a puch button start. The button is right next to the ignition...not very hard... I ran a wire from the positive battery post ...to the button.. then to the starter. (This is the Cheap half You could go the right way and get a new switch (if that turns out to be the prob). Good Luck [HTi]Johnson -

can i ask how much money you have into your RX? -
I was thinking today, I have a 4psd d/r range tranny in my car, I looked at the rear diff and it has a 3.7 ratio sticker on it. Is it supposed to be 3.7 or 3.9, for that tranny? Before, I had the Auto tranny in it, and in 4wd at 45mph i would get a humming from the rear. It doesn't do it now...with the 4psd in there...maybe that's why the automatic died? Thanks. [HTi]Johnson

Running leaded gas in my Subie (Nicaragua)
[HTi]Johnson replied to dbenzmaine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an EA-81, with no cat now. Runs better. You can smell gas out of the exhaust though. Before the cat was removed, I notice one of the prior owners removed the O2 sensor. Is there a reason you're going to Central America? Like for fun or school? -
Fuel injected ea71? You might have other problems. Check your plug wires, coil, and coil wire.

i'm hoping this will be answered quick I know in Subarus, the Engines are zero inteference (T-belt breaks, no piston to valve damage) is this true for justy's

Nightmare Mechanic/EA82 Carb Issues.
[HTi]Johnson replied to blinkibus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wonder if this is the first subaru these dumb*****es have dealt with. You drove the car in, no problem, so how could that be a backwards disty? Well, sorry for your problem, you should take them to court and refund you $700 and the next bill to cover the cost of fixing it. Too bad you're not farther north in Oregon, tons of people are here, more than willing to help you. A weber, I don';t think would help you pass smog. well, sorry for your troubles. Justin -
