  1. Glad you got it worked out. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the toughest to arrive at.... Jay
  2. I had a Toyota 22re do that and it was an air pocket in the coolant. The coolant temp sensor must have been getting hit w/ waves of coolant followed by air pockets and it was causing a radically fluctuating idle just like you are describing. Problem disappearded when I got the air out. I also ran across that condition on my brother in law's 92 Accord and found his coolant level to be 3/4 gallon low (probably same result, coolant temp sensor getting air then coolant then air), he had a bad headgasket as it turned out. Have you checked your cooling system?? Jay
  3. Car shopping lately, and I'm have been looking at used Subies. I came across an 03 Legacy w/ 107k that's original and runs good. I was wondering if they are as prone to HG leaks as the earlier EJ25's - 1998-2002. Been comparing w/ some Foresters and Outbacks of those years w/ roughly the same mileage, except they have recently had HG's replaced, and the money is the same. Trying to decide which is the smarter way to go? Jay
  4. I dealt w/ DMI once - and my uncle and also a friend use them. Good place to go. Price was fair and work was done well. Haven't been there in the last few years as I have a nice garage to work in now. I would be surprised if anything has changed though. Jay
  5. Northeast Pennsylvania, about 1hr from the NY and NJ borders. Had a 91 Legacy about 7 years ago but no Subies as of now. I'm currently shopping them, I have a commute and we get a fair amount of snow and ice in wintertime. I've recently moved into a house on top of a mountain and the driveway actually requires AWD to climb in winter, had to hike it about a dozen times last winter when my accord couldn't make it. Considering used Foresters, Outbacks, and Legacys primarily.
  6. Hello all. I'm new to the forum, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking here a few weeks now and just joined today. Looking forward to being part of this board! Jay
  7. Type - Formerly professional, now shadetree What - Just about everything on 4 wheels How long - professional 5 years, shadetree 12 Currently employed as a metal fabricator/mechanic. Over the years I've worked on many things auto related, restored a couple vintage cars (USA and Japanese), modified a few including engine/drivetrain swaps, worked in a bodyshop through high school and college - got real good at rust and light collision repair, refinishing/blending, didn't get to learn any framework though. Always wanted to try my hand at custom interior work but haven't yet. Also dabbled in carpentry, plumbing/electrical - wasn't for me but I learned enough to do my own house projects.
