Can't seem to post the photos up here from photobucket http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu134/ogrekhan/0eb921f2-28cf-40c6-8d31-a2c42293cef7.jpg http://i641.photobucket.com/albums/uu134/ogrekhan/f2bc24a5-cdb7-4845-a1b5-a4f7fadc5854.jpg Hope these links work. There is an arrow to the plug in question where I think the PCV may have been removed. Jeremy.S

Hey, Thank you very much for the response. I followed your directions and the EGR is there but in the place where you indicated the PCV should be there is a threaded plug in the manifold. No T off the line on the drivers side from valve cover to the air breather either its just a straight line from cover to cleaner just like the passenger side. My brother is trying to get a few pics for me before it gets dark , and I'll see about getting them posted here so you can see what I mean. The previous owner seems to have disabled the EGR and I'm starting to suspect he removed the PCV and replaced it with that plug Jeremy.S

Hey all, First off my subie is an 83 4wd wagon with california emissions 2 barrel hitachi car. My air filter was getting fouled with oil so I decided to order a new PCV valve in order to fix the problem. I went out to replace said valve today only to find it doesn't exist as far as I can tell on my car. The hoses from the valve covers to the air breather are both straight lines with no T's and from the many pic's and descriptions I've found in my searching the pcv is not in it's proper location nor is there any plugged opening where it might have been removed/deleted. The previous owner left me with a nightmare of vacuum leaks and taped wires that I have sorted out over time , but I can't even see where he could have modded or removed it. Anyone have any ideas/pics/help/new swear words I could use ? Thanks Jeremy.S

Hey, Well heck after reading a whole heck of a lot it seems they are indeed different. Jeremy.S

Hey, Quick question.. do EA81 and EA82 Radius/Strut rods interchange? Specifically will the one off an 87 wagon work on my 83 wagon? Thanks! Jeremy.S

Update, After reading the advice given here a careful inspection with a good shop light revealed that the round bar leading toward the back of the car is bent and badly so. It's the short bar that hooks to the back and bolts up under the drivers floor area. More questions now lol. Is this part available new and if so what do I ask for when I start calling around looking for it? If not will it interchange with an 87 EA82 wagon as I have 1 for parts. I took a few pics but my phone and computer apparently aren't on speaking terms atm. Thanks a lot for all the help! Jeremy.S -

Hey, Full size spare, sadly it doesn't match the nice rim that met its maker on the curb though lol. It pulled to the left before and after I swapped to the spare Jeremy.S -

Hey , Tie rod and shock looked good , but might bear further inspection. The steering wheel is quite a bit off from center now "turned as if I were starting a right turn" and it wasn't before. As for pics I will probably have to wait for daylight tomorrow unless I can get it in my buddys garage for a few. Jeremy.S -
Found it with the drivers front rim of my 83 GL wagon while sliding around a corner to be exact. The rim is toast but more importantly now my car wants to turn left if I take my hands of the wheel. I pulled the the trashed rim off and inspected for damage.. nothing busted or bent as far as I can see. However after putting my spare on it still goes hard to the left if I don't hold her straight. So I have a couple questions...will any of the steering parts..tie rods etc off my 87 wagon donor car fit my 83? Second any Ideas on what went wrong ? I don't have any wobble/jerking in the steering wheel and no odd noises. I'm wondering if the alignment could just have been knocked that far out or if it is something more serious. Thanks in advance for any info/advice. Jeremy.S

Hey, I picked up a donor car to convert my 83 GL to SPFI. I had bookmarked a great write up that was linked on here, and I wish I had saved or printed it then because its gone . http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/EA81_SPFI.html Anyone have it saved or know of another good write up? Would like to get started pulling the goodies but I don't want to mess anything up hehe. Jeremy.S

1983 Gl Wagon Blower relay location?
Ogrekhan replied to Ogrekhan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nobody knows? Hehe now I don't feel so bad about not being able to find it lol. -
Hey all, Let me first say I have already searched using the search function, and looked through the books I have for my subie. I have no power to the heater blower motor, or the blower switch in my car. The blower doesn't work on any speed unless I feed 12v directly to the green/white wire leading to the blower. If I do that it operate in speeds 3/4. Everything I've read leads me to believe my relay is bad but........ I can't find the #@%*! thing lol. I looked where I think it should be and I'm just not finding it. If anyone has a pic of its location..or could give me some good instructions specific to this model year I'd be most appreciative. I know there are a ton of other posts like these"because I read a ton of them before posting hehe" , and I'm sorry for adding another but I really need help. Thanks, Jeremy.S

Hey all, I'm looking at an 87 GL that a small time junker I know got in. It has a blown head gasket but other than that its in decent shape. I popped the hood and it is fuel injected "TBI" so I'm planning on grabbing that for my 83. No rear disks , but it has a good dual range 5 spd. What I am wondering is do I need to be concerned on the gear ratios in the 5 speed? Also would the rear wiper motor match my 83 or at least be able to used with mods? And lastly what other parts should I be snapping up? I might be trading him for a car I have sitting around so I can pretty much snag whatever I want. Thanks in advance for any info/advice! Jeremy.S

Hey, I was thinking of hosting a get together for USMB folks at the Southwood preserve near smithland Iowa this summer. I would provide the basics, food and drink. Anything else folks want to bring would be cool. We could show off our subys..maybe do a mini swap meet. Just wanted to gauge interest here before I start making any serious plans. For reference Smithland is about 40 mins south of Sioux city. Jeremy.S

Whats broke on your subaru lately.
Ogrekhan replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Drivers front CV shaft hehe. It hasn't popped yet but its on it's way. Funny thing is in addition to the clicking I usually get when a CV is on its way out I'm also getting a slight jerking in the wheel off and on. Is this a subaru thing? I thought maybe since tranny side joint allows in/out movement on these that might be it. Already bought a reman shaft for it, and read up on the procedure on here. I'm a little dubious about getting the shaft back into the hub as by many accounts it's a PITA. It will have to wait in any case till I can get it into a garage..it's nasty cold here so I guess I'm stuck driving the old dodge truck for awhile -
Hey, Thanks for the advice! I was reading GD's write up on the nissan swap , and it sounds great but I'm a little fuzzy on the details. First I'm unsure if it will fit with my factory carb and AC. Second if I can use the single groove pulley off my alt or if I'll have to track down a double groove EA-82 pulley. Either way since the sooby is my current DD I had to bite the bullet and shell out for the remain just to get back on the road asap.

Hey, Thanks for the response . The really good news is that nobody in this town stocks this alternator so I'll be shelling out $70+tax for a special order reman lol. Checked all the yards around here and no dice there either. I'm thinking I'll put a WTB add in the parts forum and see if anybody has one to sell so I can have a spare on hand for the inevitable reman fail hehe .

Hey, Fuses are all good and I'm getting only battery voltage at the alternator with the car running so........... looks like it's toast unless anyone has any knowledge to send my way lol.
-
Hey all, I left work tonight and before I got a block my volt gauge dropped to 8 and I had three dummy lights pop up on the cluster. Parking break, brake lamp, and can't recall the third. The volt gauge was right in the happy range every day before this happened and I have no clue why the dummy lights would pop on due to an alternator failing... any ideas? It got me home , about a 10 minute drive and ran fine with the lights still bright. I left it running and tested for voltage at the battery 11.66 volts with the lights on. Once I shut the engine off the battery read a healthy 12.4. I'm going to go out now that I've had a bite to eat and check fuses etc.

83 wagon fuel carb problem?
Ogrekhan replied to Ogrekhan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, It was this past Tuesday afternoon so 20-30 degrees or so. I hadn't thought of that I'll check it out thanks -
Hey all. My 83 started falling on its face a little on take offs and shifts making it necessary to throttle up to keep the engine going. I wasn't overly concerned because I'm planning on a weber swap already, but... while returning home a couple days ago on the interstate the engine died at 60 mph and would not restart. I spent a few tense minutes on the shoulder with people inexplicably rubber necking and swerving toward me. The engine would fire every try but die immediately . After about 2 dozen tries the engine fired up and stayed running so I took off and it got me home. Since then I've driven it around town with no issues other than the hesitation / stutter I mentioned earlier. Any Ideas? An idea of where I should start looking would be appreciated .
