Team CF and I ventured up Lolo pass from Zig Zag only to be treated with great views of Hood on the way... However , the shroud of clouds blocked Hood at pass... Once at the top we tried the power line spur climb for a nice view...after a couple of tries ...we then chained up our front tires. Once up top we had a bit of lunch...and enjoyed the view of the pass. At the junction we decided to take fs rd spur 100 which is the short cut through the pass...there were about four obstacles that were not so friendly...I stuck myself or wedged my front and rear bumper in a steep whoop...doh... Good thing were were prepared...I dug out the maddox and removed chunks of packed snow from the back...and a couple of quick pulls with a recovery strap Team Cf got me out... So now we decided to head down the main pass rd...and came upon six full size pickups(chained fronts) . We pulled off the side to the let them pass...they barely got by us...diggin in and sliding all over the place. Team Cf had slid the back end in some deep stuff so I returned the favor and pulled him out.... We had no problem with the new snow....it was better than last weekend...However, the big 4x4's made a mess of the track...one of them had got stuck (suburban) but finally got out... We now got all the way through the pass....and headed over to Middle mtn...S.Gilhouley rd...only to be greated by a closed gate... So off to Pine mount rd FS rd 17...and some spurs...it was dark now and we were blazing...out overheads as fresh snow fell ....We decide to turn around near Surveyors ridge... We decided to hit the Eliot glacier public house (parkdale)for a pint . Later we headed over hwy 35 to white river snowpark for a few cookies... with our overheads on ...it looked like a couple of UFO's were landing... Here's a few pics..Team Cf has more..

Yesterday after skiing with my boy...we venured up hwy 44 about five miles...where only snowmoblies..went...they couldn't believe my outback went up there...like it was nothing.... gotta love frozen snowpack... I then cruised over to parkdale/odell to lost lake rd..and up and over Lolo pass....I wasn't sure if I could make it with the snowfall...and deep ruts from trucks, jeeps that had frozen over....good thing I have a skidplate.. When I got to the top a jeeper was airing up his tires...He couldn't believe my outback made it all the way...He was like no way....I think I changed his thinking about Subarus.... It was a great day...wahoo...

I did make it....little did I know I was just on the other side of fs rd 72 beyond the gate....near Dalles ridge....and lightning creek... I had to chain up the front as it was pretty slick...I pulled a subaruban that got stuck next to me(not the tahoe in the pic)....then on the way down I pulled a 2 gen outback that slid the back end into a ditch... From ther I headed over to Suntop...fs rd 73 and broke trail where the other 4x4's couldn't go any farther... I had forgotten the turnoff.....and then found you guys... I had a great time even though it was short and sweet with the group..did a few cookies and hill climbs...after most of the group left..wahoo.... I then endured the brutal drive down in the rain from hell.. here's some pics... note the blue sky...! and the White river ...is truly white!!!

Having done alot of wheelin in deep snow..I'd rather have 4wd..with a lo- range...less chance of spinning a tire...and losing traction especially on steep hillclimbs...At least the folks in OZ get a lo-range with AWD on new gen stuff.. AWD is great for street/rally style drifts..in gravel or under a foot of snow...However , once you get offset your done...without momentum...to get over obstacles...good luck getting your LSD to kick in intime... but offroad..... 4wd is King hands down....LSD is ok but a locked front/rear diff. rules...lincoln lockers..baby.. Besides how deep of snow are we talkin'..a foot or more...clearance is more an issue...Most of the time if ya get stuck in deep snow your gonna dig yourself out...since the snow is highcentering your vehicle....I use a telescoping snow shovel...works great.. A cumalong...or winch is your best friend.....always bring lots of shackles /straps./tree saver..Usually a couple minutes of diggin the snow out and your ready to go.. Tires...I run AT tires on my outback and have broke trail in almost 3ft of powder....without chains...! Don't forget to air down your tires ....I'll air down to 15psi or less...for serious traction.. Unless it's icy.....I haven't had to chain up yet...(with street tires ..yes)

I finally had a chance to post ...with some pics.... Team Cf and I headed down Still creek rd for some trail action ...we cut out some small blowdown and then after Team Cf crossed the log ..loosened his exhaust... We then continued over towards hwy 26E hitting the powerline trail..ya know this one Chaz....fun as always.. From Hwy 26E we headed over hwy35 with a quick "cookie" run at Whtie river snowpark....wahoo... practiced our figure 8's and drifting...Then off to Bennet Pass and took FS 3550 down to Badger lake and broke trail the entire way..(Note: a month before we atttempted to get in with 3ft plus...we only got maybe 3/4 of mile..) down to Badger lake...had some lunch...and cruised up Gunsight Ridge...where traction was definitely tricky..I noticed the temps at the mtn were fluxuating alot for m 27*F to 42*F (cold down low, warm up high) Badger lake from gunsight ridge... Team Cf put chains on for the last steep climb..once at the junction of FS4410 we still broke trail several miles down towards hwy44...until we came across a large blowdown..that completely blocked our path....:-\ Of course I had a bow saw, maddox, tow straps we could have spent hours cutting and moving that beast...But we were thankful we had nice small subies ...When I peered over the blowdown I noticed truck tracks that turned around.. ..We found a narrow notch right between a tree and stump with only inches to clear our subies...Wahoo...nothing like having a quadsized...track to get around .... Off we went down to hwy 44 then over to hwy 35N. We decided to head over to cload cap rd...that was unplowed...and pretty sloppy...we saw a couple of deer...that looked like everyone else does..when they see what a subies can do..lol then we headed down fs rd 3512 to fs rd3511 ....almost made this short climb but it was just too sloppy...team cf gave me a few quick pulls to get me turned around..after I slid off abit...so we headed back down...and over hwy35 over to hwy26 ....we came acrosss a bunch of idiots parked in the corner of the rd..standing around..just waiting to get killed..it was dark..& snowing I put out a (30min) flare before the corner and told them to get moving ....it was a bottleneck... The guy in the F 250 was a complete *********************... who worked for odot....who should know better...!!! Once we continued down to hwy26 a huge wreck with many vehicles ....I felt better about putting out that flare....and telling those folks to moveout.. It was time for a brew and burger...at Mt. Hood brewing...ice axe ale was tasty... it was a great day...

Finally I get time to post..been busy workin ot... Team CF and I had a blast well into the dark night... Goat mtn was fun...then when took the plunge into a channel..trail leading to the power lines off Fs rd 4220 near hwy 46 ...We figured we'd wash the subes undercarriage off from goat mtn in the water...perhaps a snorkel is in order... here's a few pics...

Hey mellow that car in the vid ..is an impreza 2.5rs #538 here's a pic from fir mtn . Here's your car at fir mtn stage.... I was a spectator after almost 3yrs of crewing for Primitive racing car #233...my 3yr old son was with me... his first rally ! he loved it !!! I was at the fir mtn stage and then service at HR fairgrounds. After that I saw some great action at the Mosier jump! A spectator (local in a buick ) turned around a headed out with many passengers hit the oil pan on a rock and oil draining all down the course!!! I got the marshalls to radio ahead to stop them , they just countinued downhill to town....3.8l of junk...now..note: they only had the car since 10/5/07..!!!(we saw the temporary permit..) the car was 100 dollar beater anyway... our car #233 car got about a foot of air on the jump! Then the light blue Audi car #734 we heard approaching missed a shift (grind..a another noise..!) they hit the top of the rise ...and the Hood flys open at like 50mph..HOLA@(*^$!!!! then they came to a stop off the road the secured the hood pins down...! Wow that coulda been ugly!!! While watchin the fir mtn stage the blue/white rx7 J- hooked the corner abit wide doing a 180*and finished off with a crowd pleasing 360* to finnish it off...!!! Lot's of action and we had a great time! Go Primitive!!!
