  1. I think the 4eat is better for the lower gear ratio in 1st vs a 5mt in 1st gear. Plus you have unlimited slip of the torque convertor. I have an 03 obw w/ a 4eat/lsd combo and works great in sand! I pulled out a big suv last year "Mercury mountaineer" out of the sand at Longbeach, Wa. I feel the power/traction to weight ratio with a Subaru is unmatched vs alot of other vehichles.
  2. I think I'm the only one inthe world to run a 215/75R15 yokohama Geolander AT+II's which are 1" larger overall diameter than stock 225/60R16. I had to grind the front calipers a 1/4" to fit the 15" wheels on and I'm lifted 2" as well. I know there are a few folks running 18's with low profile tires pretty wide as well. Check out www.subaruoutback.org
  3. If theres a fire in the door ...with a few fasteners there is no way to get the fire out in time! I have taken off the door panel assembly many times !('03 outback) All you need it is the two screwdrivers (phillips/slotted)Subaru gives you when you bought your car ..in the black pouch with tire iron. just geta pair of side cutters and hack off the wiring through the door near the hinges! or pull the right fuse! Have an extinguisher ready! electrical fires burn quickly! I've put out a few! Infact I just helped rewire the aftermath of a rally car (friends team ) It was ugly ! melted everything ! we got the car up and going an hour later! Good thing there was no interior to deal with other than steel!
  4. Forget those "fooling the ecu" jobs ...just a crock & nobody is using them! What boost are you expecting to get without a turbo or supercharger, nitrious?...none!!! First get a catback exhaust using a 2.25" pipe Then try a CAI, Header and a Piggyback ECU (perfectpower ecu- SMT-6) A lightwieght crank pulley helps for quicker revs to redline. I have done all those and make's a huge difference...but will cost you a few bucks! The next step is Highflow cat. and cams or turbo conversion.... I also have an '03 outback wagon with a 4eat trans.
  5. Sounds great ! Perhaps some brew from the Elliot Glacier public house(parkdale ) that's about as local as it get's other than Mt.Hood brewing , Government camp or Full Sail, Hood river:grin:
  6. At least I showed up to the 3 corner rock meet....and went solo! So did anyone go?
  7. So after mowing the yard ya went for a dip...! LOL! Nice shots! Especially the bazooka ehaust!
  8. I just tried to register and hit submit and nothing....?
  9. MMM.....tasty beaverage...frothing over the top...! A stout perhaps! got mine ordered!
  10. Solo It is...! I've been busy so no time to post a TR... I arrived at Battleground st.Park and waited an hour and head for the hills....Spankly Pete calls and his disty went to hell five miles out from home...DOH! The first turn off pavement and wow! Tricycle time..past a car shot to peices ( 4 sections of it+ a fridge). I tool around abit looking for more...nothing but no tresspassing /private property signs everywhere so I head elsewhere not wanting confrontation (my 24 month old son is with me as well). I found my way to Larch mtn. for some great views mostly dirt/gravel/skidder tracks. My son and I head out for hike to the top (my boy did 6 miles on a steep rocky trail with some snow! What a trooper!) . I saw two FS rangers one undercover in a Dodge ram...warning me about dirt bikers...yeah ...yeah...buddy they hit me and they are done....! It was a great day! although I never made 3 corner rock ....to much to see and do..Great views of ST.Helens/Hood abit dusty...I found my way back to Washougal and back home. Another day to explore!
  11. The Outbacks mudguards have a large cavity that fills with debris and water ...I go wheelin alot and I always saw puddles....I've since replaced them with a cut to fit guard.
  12. I saw "The North face" editon gen 2 outback in dark blue! I loved the solid color match w/lower cladding... I would post all your info at www.subaruoutback.org as they are all outback owners there ! Myself included aka "scooby"
  13. Schweet! That's one of the meanest lookin' Impreza's I've seen ! Nice work!!!:grin:I like the yellow saftey tabs on the x-bars..nice touch! Ya just need the AT/or MT on it + skid/bashplate and it would be the bomb!
  14. I gotta buddy from www.Offroadsubarus.com. that might show from SEA...in a Forester...!
  15. I think I could do Sat. @ 10am /safeway parking lot. Those maps are really vague!!! My FS map is five times better!!! I have been up to Three corner rock mtn biking a few years back so I know the roads abit . Option two : meet at Battle ground state park entrance and head Ne to Bells mtn then Se to Spotted deer mtn...SE again to Elkhorn mtn ..East to Larch mtn ...South to Jones creek 99% of it is on unimproved roads !!! so ya know there will be some fun spurs/tracks off of them... I've been checkin out Greenleaf peak 3,422ft /basin looks promising not far from 3 corner rock. I noticed a hot springs near there! We could come down to the gorge near Stevenson or Bridge of the Gods. I used to race at the Washougal MX track back in '92....5 race series....'Top of the mtn challenge' ..I even have the video of the final race! It was awesome ! We had Nirvana blastin' over the tower PA while we raced ...got us really stoked when we past by...
  16. best bet is to get a Gifford pinchot nat. forest map. I have one and would have to scan it... We could always meet @ Camas safeway parking lot.
  17. From the looks of the basket on top you could use it for a crab pot while your out wheelin'.....! I would love to hit the sand with ya! just let me know when so I can plan ahead.
  18. I was thinkin maybe Three Corner rock area near Washougal...From what I could map out you can drive up to the top and then hit the gorge via the back way!
  19. Whilst enroute on Postcanyon to Binns hill rd I caught up to a 3gen outback loaded with kayaks! You could say it was abit dusty!
  20. I remember it well, I just barely squeezed thru it too...folded mirrors in, a couple of spotters...It was my Subies first technical offroad challenge...I cringed at the brushing....and then we hit tight stuff ....doh ! "my wife is gonna kill me for scratching the hell out of the paint...!" she didn't really notice much....Whew...! Now I just blast on thru like it's second nature...
