I christened the foz while hunting for a campspot @ Mt.Bachelor foothills. I stumbled on some kewl back roads to test the foz out. I was fully loaded @ 3750lbs. Skis, ski pulk, camp gear.. I brushed the foz abit , then took the foz for a dip... click on the first pic for video.. My kinda trail bushwack...! Yes I did drive over that...those that know me well...

I noticed a bad vibration and seemed the timing was off..The front crank seal was leaking so it was time to check it out. First off the crank pulley bolt wasn't even tight ..! The damper was damaged FUBAR.. The woodruff key was rolled over..! I had an extra dampner on hand and the crank, gear were ok.. It had throw the timing off about a tooth w/ missfire codes on cyl. #1, #2.. Alot of miss information out there on crank pulley bolt torque. Subaru recommends 130ft lbs. The good news is I saved it and runs perfect now...

I retrofitted my primitive front skid plate from my outback to fit the foz.. It's only a temporary so I can save for the lift.

H6 100amp alternator on EJ22 swap
scoobyclimbs replied to scoobyclimbs's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
That would be nice. However, as I stated previusly . The h6 alternator is bigger and the pulley cannot be swaped. I did try this already. -
Here's a link with Cmiller's swap pics on pg. 2 with pics.. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1092619#post1092619 Nice and clean drop in Chris..

H6 100amp alternator on EJ22 swap
scoobyclimbs replied to scoobyclimbs's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
On Sat, I helped Cmiller do the swap witha a 90amp ej25 alternator. It was a cleaner install given the pulley was the same and no modification to the plastic coil/tb cover. Cmiller will add the extra wiring and fuse to the battery later. A side by side comparison of the ej22 alt. below, ej25 alt above. It is a drop in install. Note: we cut out the long alt.mount bolt(between the two mount ears) and relpaced it with two smaller bolts and flipped the front bracket nut to the backside.(this way you don't have to remove the radiator to change alternators.) Here's what you'll need (about a foot of harness w/ plugs) they are labeled with what color you splice into the ej22 harness. ej25 ends Blue w/ red stripe goes to ej22 black w/white stripe. ej25 black w/yellow stripe goes to ej22 yellow Cut the third heavy gauge white wire from ej22 alt plug off at the 3way junction. Splice the two large white wires together and the other ends mentioned above. (solder all joints and use butt connectors/heat shrink). We used a 1/4" 3/8 eyelet (cut out the eyelet and slide the two ends in and solder each end and crimp.) Notice the perfect alignment w/ the 90amp ej25 pulley.. The h6 alt. is slightly bigger therefore requires more modiction. -
H6 100amp alternator on EJ22 swap
scoobyclimbs replied to scoobyclimbs's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I found that all the h6 alternators (ez30) were only 100amp not 110amp . Perhaps a later generation or h6 3.0 or 3.6 has a 110amp. -

Why a new crush washer ? I've reused about a thousand crush washers on about every make and model of car/truck heavy equipment..etc. since the mid 80's...never had a problem... If you hit it that's another issue.. I haven't lost a motor yet . Unless it's damaged reuse it.
