  1. kewl, It'll give me abit more time to get the ej ready...Just installed one piston/rings....3 to go..
  2. After abit of bead blasting I used a ford red engine paint. Intalled the new blue NGK plug wires, pcv valve. Cleaned up the TB(new gasket).
  3. It's cast part not forged ...so abit weaker. I seen alot of engines do it now and then...but not common..
  4. I was thinking of painting the intake manifold StI red or black. I have blue ign wires now...so contrast would be kewl.. The engine bay is yellow so I'm leaning towards red..
  5. I got one of only 2 "A" left pistons in the country! Rings are on their way. Just a rering and #4 piston, valve stem seals, gaskets, water pump.
  6. Here's a few pics of the tear down... what I found in the oil pan. Ring bits and a piston piece that was on the bottom. #4 piston note: the piece under the piston missing wrist pin removal tool I fabbed( I used a socket like a slide hammer) lots of good cross hatch in the bore....
  7. I tore down to the block , Heads looked good. Good cross hatch in the cyl. bores. When I took the oil pan off I discovered pieces of ring land and broken rings from #4 cyl. Tommorow I will split the case.....
  8. We were there for the first stage only and then drove lolo pass over to a friends in Sandy. The tear down begins on my ej22..
  9. I was driving home from Mt.Hood rally last sat. only a few miles from home ...I noticed alot of oil burning.. The plume out the exhuast was like a james bond getaway... I burned a quart in about 7miles..! Did a compression chk. #4 cyl was 30psi...The tired old ej22 with about 180k on it .. So for $200 and 2yrs and 10k of hard driving on a used motor I can't complain.. So the today the motor came out...time for a rebuild...
  10. Get a spare isolator! I wouldn't trust a used one...! We replace bad ones all the time at my shop...
  11. I ran the cooper discovery st II's which are very close.. I liked them.. they did great in most situations except mud...It's really good in snow and rain or easy trail.. Here's a pic of me wheelin' my hatch from many years ago..abit extreme for those tires but they got me by ..
  12. I'll be there in my hatch..spectating http://mthoodrally.com/
  13. I don't think there is better rig it's more about experience in diverse conditions. I have a lifted outback and a lifted hatch....both have their pros and cons.. Being prepared and common sense with get you farther than anything else.. I suggest a skidplate you never know if rock or stump is lurking beneath..
  14. I was solo on this run . so my son and I had a great time... We spotted a forest fire on Mt.Hood near lawrance lake, panarama point . lolo pass
  15. Muffler pics.. perrin pulley installed just in time for the WCSS13 I picked up one of these at WCSS13 I guess it was" lucky13"
  16. I need a resonator....It's tad too loud... .but sounds badass .. WOT It's scary in first gear...I gained another 10-12hp..tires are squeali'n Mind you I still have manual steering...Fighting that torque steer...Whoa...! It sounds more like a rally car now...and the dual tip and low rumble is just mean... single best $30 upgrade yet....wahoo... Lucky 13(wcss13) this weekend...!
  17. AS WCSS13 is this weekend I have even more last minute stuff to do.. A quick oil change with full synthetic oil. New O2 sensor.. I went out to the Perrin air show...picked up a few goodies... Installed a Perrin crank pulley... A "mini cooper " Alta r56 muffler...Which should give my sube a better sound.. vs my cheepo muffler I put on when I had the ea81 in it. http://www.brrperformance.com/product.php?prodid=brr-mini-alt-0003 I paid an obscene price for it..$30...and about shat myself ..when I found out the retail...It's black too! I have to install the drivers side power window regulator and wiring, Plus wiring for the power mirrors. So much to do.. so little time...
  18. I think it's like $10.50 but you won't need it unless you run the "mini rubicon" .It's a triple black diamond trail so 6" plus lift rigs only...I couldn't get my hatch thru ...got hung up on rocks...Very tight and flexy....! Most of the trail is doable. The other stuff we will be on will be more moderate to easy.
  19. hood vent pics.. drilled out The vents made a significant drop in wat. temp...5 degrees or better at 5,000 plus feet. I also added some led marker lights drilled/fitted in the rear side marker lens ..they are really bright.. I finally got around to painting the dash, horn buttopn charcoal grey to match the rest with vinyl paint. Alot less glare with flatter darker color...! I also fitted the remote drivers mirror and Powered window switch in the door panel..
  20. But ur Baja looks baja'd now.. j/k...I cannot appologize enough for the brushing....I owe ya a brew..! Walking man brewing is a quick hike down the road from WCSS.. The answer to your question ...Ya could drive your big rig through there if ya had the interlock in... and a few more gears... I guarantee you a easy trip there.. or I'll let you throw me in the lake
  21. Those of you who want to cool off we have a couple lakes close by during the run. Fishing is good.. also swimming. Warren lk is just a short hike about 1/4 mile of the run... A month ago it was like bath water... Kingsley resivours are also next to our route as well..
