Tuesday Night Math Problem
Buckaroo21 replied to machthree2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Unless you got AU transmission somehow... I believe they had 4.11 gear ratio D/R 5spd in AU. -
I have fuel pressure and I have spark but no I have not tried turning the distributor while cranking. I'm really thinking its a sensor of some sort but I have no idea what sensor would completely stop it from even trying to start.
-
I have checked and double checked all the timing. It isn't perfect, no way can I get it perfect without the engine running, but it's close enough that it should fire.
-
Yep all fuses and fuse links are good. It cranks great just not firing up.
-
Ok so I bought an 87 RX as is not running, I was nearly positive the reason it wasn't running was ignition timing. So... I have re-timed everything to correct timing, I have fuel, I have spark, and I have great compression. It still won't run or even try to start. At this point I don't have a clue... I have tried everything I can imagine with no success. Can anyone offer some ideas of possible issues that be the culprit or culprits to my problem?

The FPR not the injectors. Pressure might be leaking past the regulator causing to high of pressures -

Fuel lines are correct and thinking now it has to be the regulator. If its dribbling excess pressure by to the injectors that would explain why it starts and runs fine after it has been sitting and the pressure is down to a lower amount. When enough pressure gets built up it floods itself out and dies. Seems reasonable enough to me but I guess I will see Wednesday when napa gets my parts in -

Well I will check the fuel pressure and those grounds first. Hush a broken ground wire really did that?? I hope it is a simple fix like that but I don't recall mine being broken. However when I did pop my fuel line off the filter to make sure I was getting today it fired up and ran normal for about 2 minutes then same problem... Any thoughts on that guys?? -

I got a new MAF and a fuel preasure regulator on order, so hope replacing those two will get it back to running. -

Ok I will try both suggestions when I can make it back to the car... If I can't find any air leaks and the cleaning the MAF doesn't work how hard is it to find a new one??? This damn fuel injection stuff throws me for a loop lol it was so much easier to just throw on a weber when I started having carb problems -

She starts then dies, smell like its a really rich mixture and when I can get it to run it will randomly die on me. Fuel pump and filter is good got good spark and idk where else to look.

I run 195-70r14 which should be the same height as 205 65 15s yours will be a touch wider but I clear mine just fine after tapping on a few things with a hammer... all the tapping I had to do is completely unnoticed!
