81 GL acceleration problem.
desertsubaru replied to BPJM1987's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did you change the fuel filter? Never junk a sube unlees you really have to because someone could allways use the parts. So before you junk it give it to me:rolleyes: Allso do a compression check on all cylinders and see if they are all close to each other. And then give it to me! LOL:lol: -
broke the solenoid, DOH!
desertsubaru replied to rridenour's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome! You will get a lot of different opinions on this and here is mine. First of all can you get us a pic? Most people will say that it is part of the OEM equipment and should be there. But if you have it to the point that its running ok with it pluged and you dont have emissions to worry about then run with out it. If its a feed back carb it may affect it. Im sure someone here will have one though. -
Seafoam=fixed gas gauge
desertsubaru replied to Zebisko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats what I would think. Your float was gummend up and the seafoam un gunked it. If I was you after you run this tank of fuel i would change fuel filters. -

86 Ea82 wagon runs minus 30 at idle and minus 30 at 3000rpms. My sending unit crapped out on me -
Yea I was just ribbing you to:lol: I realy don't know what jets it has I picked it up on Ebay for $100 shipped. I think it would have about the same as the weber 32/36. It was made for a 4 cylinder vega or pinto. I can' wait to get a real weber though.

I would like to put my carbed( Holley 5200) 86 4x4 wagon with a 90 engine in it against your VW. The way I have my car set up you would think its a turbo. I run only three vacuum lines and no cat or egr and I can catch 3rd gear with a chirp,1st and second i can burn my tires off.(front wheels only) I have allso taken it up to 7000 rpms in 1st 2cnd and 3rd gears with no complaints from the engine. I love this car!

Can't get the brake hub off?
desertsubaru replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You should be fine if they got tight. Every time you stop check them:cool: Good luck keep us informed. When you do get time make sure you get to sedona it is A MUST SEE. I lived there for 3 years and loved it. The bad part is that it was to hot for me to do my trade of a pipe layer. -
I found a way to make my EA82 feel alot faster
desertsubaru replied to zyewdall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Great trucks! A bud of mine had one put 500,000 miles on it rebuilt the engine drove another 200,000 miles. Parked it because of rust and let it sit for 10 years and went out one day when we were bored, put a battery in it cleaned the mouse nest out, hit the key and it started right up. We used it for a farm truck for about 3 years then sold it to a kid that wanted the engine. That was 1998 and the truck the kid put the engine in is still on the road! -
The News Just Keeps Getting Worse
desertsubaru replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im sure bucky is hurting to from not having you drive him:) . Just a small set back, dont worry you will be back in him soon! Remember he is old and needs TLC. Maybe he is jelous:eek: I think of it this way its like a dog they age 7 years to our 1. so a car has like a 5 to 1. that would mean my car is 105. -
Where do I get the O ring that goes on the pipe that goes into the water pump?
-
No wires. And I put this carb on 3 days before the belt went. The car was running great untill it broke. Popped like ten times through the carb hard enough to push my caps off of un used vacumm ports. I Only run three lines. 1 for disty, 2 for booster, 3 for heater. Its got to be some kind of leak because when you rev it it comes down off of rpms in like steps. Any chance I blew the rubber on the acclerator pump? I am going to get a weber but need to keep this thing going for now. I guess its time to pull apart the other 5200 I have that did the same thing on another engine I had it on and it popped through the carb to. Thanks again GD!!

EA81, piston to valve clearance?
desertsubaru replied to Phizinza's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This might be a dumb Idea but I will say it anyway. If you have the heads off put the piston up to tdc on the exhaust stroke and put some clay in the space (maybe a little more to make up for space in head) thats in the cylinder. Bolt the head on with a gasket and when you bolt it back on have the exhaust valve open . take head back off and mic the clay. If you all think this is a dunb Idea just sat so and I will go away .lol  -
So i put another rebuilt from factory (80$) Holley 5200 carb (I know get a weber and I will when income tax return comes) on my car and it WAS running great. But after my timing belt went and I had the timing set wrong when I tried to start it. It popped through the carb a couple of times and now it wont idle down and turning the air fuel mix and idle control down wont do it. I checked for vacumm leaks externaly and have none. So im thinking internal vacumm leak? How do you tell if it is internal and how do you fix it. Oh and the one time it popped there was a small fire that went right out. The car runs great but I just cant get it to idle less then 2000 rpms. I can even get 7200 rpms out of it now before the valves float.

What makes a carb ea82 advance timing?
desertsubaru replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So what if you have an spfi block with a carb and carbed disty? Where should you set the disty at? -
Thanks! I was a long side of the highway and it was getting dark so I will re do it tommrow. This is the first time in the four years I have had this car I had to get it towed. Every time I get this car running really good it poops on me but I can allways get her gone again. What realy sucks is I have got her running so good I hit 7.200 rpm getting on the highway
-
Yes I searched! I had A t belt go today (drivers side) I know how to re set everthing and Im pretty sure its right but for some reason now It wont start and it pops back trough the carb. Is it possible some how I bent a Valve? I dont have a compresion gauge so i cant do a test( I know buy one .But im broke) So any help would be great. Thanks

desertsubaru replied to desertsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

About a year ago someone posted a link for a parts place that Has the adjustable struts for an 86 wagon. I did a search but cant find the post and cant remember the name of the place. Does anyone have it please. I should have bought the ones i looked at but just couldnt afford it. Now income tax are on there way so its time to find them again. Oh and I want the mechanical adjustable ones not the air.
