  1. Darn:mad: I can get anther engine with more miles on it for $ 150 and I can change the engine in like three or four hours. So I think I will do that and keep this engine and rebuild it. The engine I can get is from a spfi car, can I put my carby intake on there as long as I change disty to? You guys are the best!!!!!!!
  2. I searched for like two hours and read 300 post but would still like some opinions please! 86 4x4 wagon Ea82 carbed. Over heating and fast disaperance of coolent whith cap on, like in 5 minutes it will suck half a rad of water. Not much steam out of muffler (30 degrees out) With cap off after five minutes it spits coolent out of rad filler. I hope its just stuck stat but something tells me its a head gasket at the worst. oil looks ok so i dont think the coolent is going there. Allso with the cap on it pushes the coolent back into the tank. Do these tanks have overflows? Allso when i put the holley on about six months ago I jb welded the hole under the carb. Could that suck that much water that fast? Wouldnt I see alot of steam then? I plan to disconect that hose from intake and plug it tommorow when its going to be like 25f out. :-\
  3. What ever jets were in it when I bought it from ebay . It was a reman for a 80 pinto. With out kero i would get 25 to 26 and my valves would rap at WOT. I started another thread called "kerosene" that will give you more info. Allso if you read that thread you will see that i had a dead spot at 3500 rpms without the kero From either wrong jets or dirt. But now that i use the kero I have no dead spot and no valve rap. I did run one tank with out kero and it had the dead spot and the rap.
  4. I have been running with out EGR and with the line in the head pluged with my 86 carbed wagon for two years now with no bad effects. I have a holly 5200 and my timing is advanced to 9 instead of 8 degrees. The carb is adjusted to two turns out on the mixture screw and I still get 30 mpg at 70 on the highway. Im still putting a half a gallon of kerosene per tank and my car has never run better. This is the 5th tank on the mix and it just gets better each tank.
  5. I did all that on mine and sprayed the heck out of it with pb blaster and a BFH and still had to get wheel puller. Sometimes they just like to stick tight.
  6. 2 or 4wheel drive? If its 4 you might need a wheel puller. I did, got one for $15 bucks at local parts store.
  7. I use 8 penny nails they fit tight and dont break.
  8. Try this. Make your own lift. Some block and tackle with good strong rope and a big Arse oak tree. Find a good strong limb at least 8 inches around and hook your block and tackle on with a chain. Hook chains to tow points on car and winch away. Only kidding that is not safe so DONOT try it. Ask me how I know.
  9. Dont give up on subes! Like anything they get old and fail. Its ok if someone GIVES you a honda:grin: Good luck man and visit us here sometimes.
  10. I had the same thing happen to me. Its the crappy boots they use. I thought it was heat from the cat but after i put a more expensive axle on it never did it again. I have gotten them that clicked from the store allso. When they say rebuilt they just look at them and if the joint isint tore apart they just repack with grease and put a new boot on clean it up and back to the warehouse it goes:mad:
  11. How does the wires look at the sending unit rustey? If so clean them. allso make sure the straps that hold the tank are not to rusty if they are you might not be getting a ground. Take a wire and hold it on the sending unit and then touch to a clean spot on the frame (no rust) and see if that does it and i think to test the gauge the same way . Touch the wire from the sending unit to a good ground with the car on and see if the gauge comes up. If so then you need a new sending unit and or better ground.
  12. Sorry about your loss. Its allwys a sad day when a sube dies even more so when it two like they commited subicide.
  13. I used baking soda and water. Drained all coolent mixed a gallon of water with a box of baking soda, put in rad and ran car untill hot then let run fo 5 more minutes then drained and flushed with a hose for like ten minutes.filled with water again and let run another ten minutes then drained and flushed again. Wow some of the crud that came out was scary. I got this idea from cleaning coffie makers, its old trick I learned from working in a kitchen . We use to use baking soda and water to clean the calcium and lime out. So I tried it in my car and it did a great job and allso made the car run cooler so it must have worked!
  14. Um how much heat do you need in florida? Its about 30 f up here now:eek:
  15. I agree with you on that. They did the myth that some drunk guy pored gas down a drain pipe to kill a racoon by lighting it on fire and it blew him out like a cannon, they said it couldnt happen. I live near where it happened it was in the newspapers and on the radio. They used a plastic pipe and a larger diameter then what the guy crawled into. He poured over 5 gallons of gas down a 24 inch concrete pipe that was at a 45% angle and it blew him 30 feet into the air into a snow bank. They used a 36 inch pipe and not as much gas, not to mention that the drain pipe hooked in to the sewer system so there would be other gas in there to:eek:
  16. I have used both and i get the same milage out of them 350 per tank. with kero 400+ miles per tank. Have allso noticed in town milege is better with kero. Most of my drive to work is highway and i get good milage at 75 mph but now with kero i get better in town milage. I think the in town milage is bad because my jets in the carb. I get a real bad dead spot at 3500 rpms and have to really get on it to make up for that dead spot so i use more fuel. With the kero i am smooth all the way up the rpm range
  17. Thats the point my jets in the carb are off and dont feel like chaging them right now so i tried this and it seems to work well.
  18. kero here is only $200 a gallon and and i use it to heat the house so i allways have a large supply. and now using it i get 400 miles + a tank, thats 50 more miles then before. I could get better but i have a heavy foot and like to take off fast at stop lights.
  19. Must be the way I have mine set up because putting 1/2 gallon of kero to 1 tank of gas smoothed my engine improved gas millage and allso got rid of my valve rap at high rpms. Would allso like to ad that i know the jets in the holley 5200 I put on are not just right because i get a dead spot at 3500 rpms right before secondary opens. After it opens i climb to 6500 rpms with no problem, with the kero that dead spot goes away and i have smooth climb all the way to 6800rpms when my valves float.
  20. I dont have a cat converter. So not woried about that. I have done it twice now with good results. It does have a lower flashpoint and helps clean.
  21. Has anyone tried this. I heard that farmers use to put up to a gallon of kerosene in a full tank of gas in there trucks. I put 1/2 gallon of kero in a full tank of my 86 4x4 wagon and i noticed that i got better fuel milage, smoother running and more power. Any feed back on this?
  22. I have the Holley 5200 on my 86 4x4 wagon and it runs great. I get 30 mpg highway and can cruse at 75 in 5th gear and still stomp it to pass people. My car is allso de emmisioned so that might be a factor. I picked mine up on Ebay rebuilt for $89 plus shipping.
  23. Did you put a t stat in it yet? Even my carbed car would run rich without t stat. If you cant afford one right now put a piece of card board over 50% of your radiator in front of ac condenser. This will make it run hotter, and if it helps the problem you know that its the lack of t stat. If so get a t stat.
  24. One time I tried to by pass the vacumm canister on the passenger side firewall for the heater control and for some reason that caused a WOT type rev that shot the tack up to five grand . When i plugged that line back into that ball type canister it was back down to normal. Maybe when you hit that speedbump it craked or knocked off that line!
