Are you sure its not just a loose axle nut? -
Best place to dispose of used fluids(?)
desertsubaru replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry:o but dumping anything like that down the toilet is not a good idea. Sorry if i sounded harsh, but being a plumber and pipe layer i know pipes can leak. Thats strange that your treatment plant said it was ok because stuff like that kills the bacteria that breaks the waste down. Just recently a big resort in the poconos (great wolf) had to much kitchen grease get into there treatment plant and allmost killed one of the best trout streams in the area. Even though its allmost to late we all must .do our part to help heal this planet -

desertsubaru replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So your saying that it will process it so it dont kill the river or creek it dumps into. Not to mention if there is a leak in the pipe from your house. Instead of putting it right down your toilet, drink it first and let your body process it then pee it out! -
Axle pin is unremovable
desertsubaru replied to Joey Joe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did you soak it good with some pb blaster? Can you get a pair of vice grips on the pin and then pry them up with pry bar or screwdriver? As for the drill bit after you get the pin out you can get a small drift punch and maybe hit it out. Dont know how much force is needed to pull out of stub. Any clips inside a sube stub? -
Maybe bad needle valve or seat. Seen it in lawnmowers and other carbs. Sratch in seat or needle valve. Dirt. There must be a reason that its bubbling out. Check for hole in float.

I hit a speed bump with my hicrappy and it did the same thing. Never did figure out why just put on my holley 5200 (weber 32/36 copy) that i had ready to go. Now more power. better milage and the sound is awesome!

How did he time you at that speed? When he pulled a u turn did he follow you for at least half a mile. Or did he have radar? -
vacuum Q for a 85DL. in the boonies
desertsubaru replied to jrsv92sc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Only three needed. One for disty, one for heater control and one for brake booster. Been so long since i got rid of them i dont remember what the other 12 or so do. Just drain power if you ask me! I even got rid of pcv and that little metal tube that goes from right head to intake, Couple of pipe plugs did the trick. So now with Holley 5200 carb and no cat i can feel a big differance in power. I can cruse at 75 in fith gear and still pick up speed if i stomp it to the floor -
Justy: Value of '91, 5 spd,4x4 - 49,000 miles
desertsubaru replied to RedBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Any car no matter what the condition is only worth what someone wants to pay for it!Like a 68 Dart gt is worth alot to me and i would pay someones price for it if i want it bad enough. So if you really want it pay the price. The way it sound though is that is a 500$ beater! -
Got one from advance auto last week and the boot ripped allready. Rubber is like paper thin. Went to pap found two subaru front shafts in the back of a wagon that has 80k on it. Rubber is twice as thick. So if your going to run those cv joints check boots often.

my old sube made a difficult trip
desertsubaru replied to bgd73's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Found out today that if they wan't to they can give you a ticket for speeding at the toll booth. They just look at the time on the card see what time it is when you get off. They know it should take longer then 15 minutes to go 20 miles. Gave me a warning today!!!! -

I traval up 476 from lehighton PA to pocono mountain pa every day at speeds up to 80 in fith gear at 4000 rpms. Get like 33 mpg and can pass people, with out down shifting. I have stock engine with holley 5200 carb no cat or emisions stock muffler. This little engine just loves to cruse at 75. -

Not enough vacume
desertsubaru replied to desertsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did find another barb. Didnt use it before because it sucked all the time. But under further test ( hooked it to disty) it works fine for advance. Carb is tuned as close as i can get it be by sound, idle and smell. Car runs great gets 33 mpg on highway and likes to cruse at 75 in fith gear. Set timing back to 8% and no ping. Thanks for the help. -
86 gl wagon Ea82 After doing a holley 5200 swap, I had to reset disty because of when i push it hard the valves rattle. Tried setting it at 8,10 and even 20% but still rattles. My car has only three vacume lines and i have the one for the disty hooked to the only barb on carb above throttle plate. When i take the line off the disty and rev the engine i get little pull on my finger.( dont have vac gauge) Could it be that my disty is not advancing enough and making valves rattle? Can i hook the disty vacume to the intake? with out all those electec valves.

Most of it was there. as of yesterday. -
Lots of good ea82 parts to pick from. Some one took one alloy wheel off a car that had four good wheels and tires. Did someone on this board grab it? One gl 10 turbo with most of its parts and lsd and a few na engines in wagons and sedans. One has like 80k on it . There is allso a glf there allmost complete. Have fun . I did.

electric to manual choke?
desertsubaru replied to Uberoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Put uni choke on holley 5200 works great. So as the holley 5200 is a copy of 32/36 it should work. got mine at autozone for 15 bucks. -
Another Stupid Exhaust Question
desertsubaru replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You top out at 80 mph with a turbo? My 86 gl 4x4 wagon with holley 5200 no emissions, cat and stock muffler likes to cruse at 75 in 5 ith gear. Had it up to one hundred at 5000 rpms on closed road and still had more. Ran out off road! -
Timing!!! Bad Timing!!!!
desertsubaru replied to aprilspies's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Lost drivers side belt today!! Thanks to not having covers on i was down the road in 45 minutes and 2 state cops asking if we needed help. Just so happenes I carry a spare belt on my spare tire for quick change. Fix it! Subes r great to learn how to fix cars. If you search on this forum you will find detailed instructions on how to get it back on the road. -
hey well it lasted a little over a week.
desertsubaru replied to Tosh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The back coil overs that can be adjusted have a nothched ring on the bottom that twist around the shock. Very similar to back motorcycle shocks. There is a tool for it but i just use 18 inch channel locks. jack car up( put on jack stands) remove wheel grab ring with plyers and twist ring to desired height. Remember your rear cv joints could ware faster. I have had mine up for three years now and no problems there. But since my shocks are shot i ware the inside of my tires out in six months.
