  1. Need more info. Is the check engine light on? How many miles on car? Yes a ripped boot can cause a problem.
  2. I just did the 2.5 to 2.2 swap on a Forester. If you decide to do the 2.2 swap I am only about an hour and a half south of you on I79. I will do it for half of what a regular shop would charge but you have to buy the engine and all parts and gaskets.
  3. Houston we have ignition! Changed intake Drivers side cam pulley and crank gear. Also had to change knock sensor because the plugs are different. Then she fired right up. :banana: Thanks for all the help John!
  4. Thanks john! So drivers side cam sprocket, crank sprocket and intake. Oh well live and learn.
  5. I see the difference in the crank gear but not the cam gears. on the right with less "teeth" is the one from the 2.5 on the left is the 2.2. Are the crank and cam sensors the same?
  6. No didn't swap the cam or crank sprocket. Is that both cam sprockets or just passenger side? I changed the plugs with another set I had and didn't dump any fuel down the intake but the new plugs are soaked again. So time to change intakes.
  7. I may have been wrong about the flooding plugs are wet from when I sprayed pb blaster down the holes to loosen the plugs up.. For the heck of it i put some gas down the throttle body and it tries to kick off but then back fires through the intake. How do I check to see if it is getting fuel? Is it possible to have one cam off even though the timing marks are dead on? It turns then it gets to a point that it will almost stop turning like its getting tight.
  8. I got the 2.2 in place of the 2.5 in my 2003 forester but it wont start. Timing marks are dead on, its getting spark and has 170 psi in all cylinders but the plugs are soaked with gas. I don't have the exhaust on yet, will that cause it to flood because of no 02 sensor? Also I noticed a few differences in the throttle body. The top pic is the 2.5 throttle body that has what I guess is the map sensor. The bottom pic is the 2.2 which you can see has some differences, No map on top. If you need better pics let me know and I will get them. Can I just swap throttle bodies or do I have to swap the whole intake. What else could cause the flooding?
  9. Well got the engine back in after discovering the flex plate on the 2.2 is smaller then the 2.5. Had to hoist the engine back up and change them. So anyone doing a 2.5 to 2.2 swap make sure you change the flex plate.
  10. The 2.2 Impreza engine I bought has this hose that is suppose to go into the air box but the 2003 Forester does not have a place to plug it in but does have a mold mark where that hose can go. So should I just plug it or drill out the air box then put a barbed fitting in it. If you look at the pic you can see the hose and the mold in the air box
  11. If the body and trans are good either do a valve job or replace the heads and with luck drive it for another 100k.
  12. The trans was replaced recently but the bolts in the bottom lock stock. Any idea what the threads on the studs are?
  13. I got the 2.2 today and have a question. The 2.2 has two long studs on the bottom of the bell housing that go in to the trans but the forester had all bolts no studs. Should I take the studs out of the 2.2 and just use the bolts from the forester 2.5 or can I just leave the studs in the 2.2 to mount it to the trans?

  15. I have a local shop that will do a cat back in 2 inch including muffler for $100. I will take pics of what I am taking about.
  16. 2003 Forester Ok here the situation, The flange on the back of the second cat that hooks to the intermediate pipe is a rusted beyond repair but the two inches of pipe from the rear cat is in great shape but the skeleton of the flange only gives about 3/4 of on inch to weld a pipe over it. Not enough IMO. My question is could a shop expand that pipe then slip a pipe inside then weld it in with out damage to the cat? I would hate to have to buy both cats.
  17. What I meant by my statement is if you buy cheap you get cheap parts.
  18. Always remember you get what you pay for. Go with the Moog for the ball joints.
  19. Learn to do the work yourself. Subes are a great car to learn on. That $500 you spent would probably have been only about $200 if you did it yourself. All the exhaust parts from the engine back to the bumper shouldn't be more then $500 if you shop around.
  20. How many miles on it? Everything quoted to can be done at home with some tools and a repair manual for way less then $2k Heck for about $1k you could get a low mileage JDM engine.
  21. Also check that all connections at the Battery and Alt are in good shape and clean. Check engine ground also.
