  1. come up some time. we are in Athol about 2 miles from Silverwood theme park. if youd like to come take a look some time gimme a call 208 625 1312

  2. Yeah your right technically the engine has the same specs as far as whats going to the fly wheel but unfortunately takes away torque from the wheels and can be very hard on the clutch.
  3. your engine is going to have the same HP but it wont get near as much torque. to be honest a general rule is nothing over 28 inches on a suby with stock gears. now i do have 31s on my buggy but they are too big so im gonna exchange em when i get some cash.
  4. welcome aboard. im a bit far away but its always nice to have more members.
  5. Hey i noticed your over in rathdrum. im in Athol Idaho. i have a dune buggy made out of a subaru brat. and of course a jeep and a diesel blazer for crawlin. if your ever around the Athol area hit me up.

  6. Mechanically about the only things that are somewhat prone to failure are head gaskets and the old subys carb arent great either but if you just get a weber or switch to fuel injection youll be set.
  7. The SUBARU BOXER engine is itself a study in symmetry. Yes, other types of engines have to have a certain amount of balance or they’d shake themselves apart. However, the horizontally opposed layout of a Subaru engine has inherent advantages. With cylinders directly opposite one another, piston movement is in a line all the way across. Power is distributed evenly on either side of the crankshaft. In an in-line engine, all the cylinders are laid out on only one side of the crankshaft. Power drives against it from only one direction. V-type engines have cylinders connected to the crankshaft from both sides of the V. However, instead of having the balance of direct opposition, piston movement in either bank tends to push the crankshaft off-center. Well this is what i saw that made me believe boxers are supposed to be more reliable. though i will admit it came from a subaru web site so im not sure how biased it is. As you said though youve never blown a motor but have had trouble with head gaskets and we all know that old subarus along with most other old import cars werent famous for great head gaskets
  8. im not sure about the whole boxer vs inline thing. When you think about it a boxer engine should technically be more reliable then any other motor hands down but its not (though it is still very reliable). In my opinion some of the most reliable motors on earth are the 22r (toyota), 4.0 inline 6 (jeep), 4.3 vortec (chevy), 300 inline 6 (ford) ej22 (subaru) om617 (Mercedes). Now out of all those motors only one is a boxer motor the rest are all inline or V motors.
  9. well thats something unfortunate. if they come to the US they may completely change the design of it and make it less reliable and less powerful to keep up with our excessively almost fascist emissions standards. ive never heard anything about the boxer diesel being unreliable ive heard plenty of great reports about it from independent reviewers. I believe the block is an aluminum iron combo and thats the same as what most duramax diesels have and from what ive seen those are powerful and reliable so in a boxer configuration it should be great.
  10. i dont know howd it would handle that much powere but i know the 4 speed and 5 speed trannys ive seen are quite bullet proof besides the fact that they are clunky (at least in the old ones i use) and have a non syncromesh reverse gear.
  11. wow a motorcycle engine. now that i look at i guess your right but at first glance it seems like a big block chevy motor
  12. yeah get either an ej22 or ej25. Heck you could go all out and make something like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enMDCVKVjUc
  13. well im not 100% sure if a ea81t can handle that much boost to be honest. From what ive heard the ea81 starts to have reliability issues at much past 125 hp. the ea81t might mave different parts im not sure though.
  14. needs a brush guard. with how top heavy that thing looks a roll cage would not hurt either
  15. seems like something me and my friend would do.
  16. idk but they were supposidly easily modified to fit a sub. i still decided to turn it down.
  17. nice. if you want more power toyota has a nice 3.4 turbo. if i ever get into engine conversions id do either that or a 4.3 vortec. 350 is good to a certain degree but it would make awful balance if its for flexing.
  18. well a good wheeling yota is hard to beat for fun and reliability. How far are you looking to go with it. Basic mudder yota setup ive seen is huge tires and 5:29 gears. of course add some lockers. are you keeping the stock engine?
  19. well its gonna likely have the typical toyota bed rust. the 20r motor is pretty strong and reliable. axels are good on those. what are you looking to do with it? muddin or daily driver?
