  1. well, i will have to wait a while. the navajo is an easy fix, its in perfect condition and everything works; low mile ect. i do forget that there are actually people out there that arnt total basterds that want to rip me a new one, and that kinda makes it hard for me cause there are too many of those kind of people. agreed well, i think i might have done something wrong when i rebuilt the engine. sounds like a rod bearing, probably is. maybe missed properly torquing a rod cap in the all that mess flipping the block around to get each bolt. i think the seal was my fault, put it in wrong; pushed it all the way as far back as it could go and cut off the flow back there. well, the navajo isnt getting sold anyway. my grandparents bought it as a second car for me, and said they were gonna keep it anyway if i didnt want it. i definitely want it now. ok, i made a mistake not making it clear that i wasnt in trouble because of the car. it was something else, which i have posted now cause im a dumba$$.
  2. dont go saying ************ when you dont know wtf your talking about. the legal trouble i got in has nothing to do with my car. i went with some friends cause one of them got attacked and hit with a baseball bat. we went to the guys house and beat all the windows in on his car. like i said, i have only taken my car to redline twice cause i heard from someone that it beeps when you redline, and wanted to see; big deal; those 2 were the only times. i never take the car over 5 grand when actually ************ing around. plus, i work my ************ing rump roast off for my grandparents and they let me stay here. we own 6 acres of land and i keep every last square inch of manicured for them so they dont have to do it. and dont go telling me how to drive a$$hole.
  3. i have no money GD! i got in some stupid rump roast legal trouble and now im 6000 dollars in dept to my grandparents, which im working on paying back, and a car that keeps breaking down isnt helping me when its their money going into it. i bought a 1991 Mazda Navajo (Ford Explorer knock off) and all it needs is a clutch and slave cylinder (messed those up myself) then i think im getting out of the Subaru stuff till i can find one that doesnt have a turbo. i even told my grandparents about this one kid from school who is going to sell me his perfectly good Legacy 2.2 EJ22 engine, transmission, and uncut wiring harness for 300 dollars and my grandparents told me we cant even afford that right now.
  4. yeah, you did warn me. and a couple months ago i was having some problem i dont remember and i actually said that you owe me an "I told you so" cause i didnt listen. but another problem i have is money. i dont have the money to buy the engine and wiring harness; someone else would have to modify a harness for me if i were to do a swap; and my grandpa is being a *************** by not letting me do the modification when its my ************ing car cause he says he doesnt want me getting into the wiring stuff.
  5. i didnt delete it, i had another thread up about the rear main seal. thats where that info came from. where do you live??? distance might be an issue. my engine was fully rebuilt. i didnt think it would be a problem. im never doing it again though.
  6. i had oil pressure. the seal wasnt completely all the way out. also the dash never indicated that i had no oil pressure, it just blew a little out and then didnt leak anymore. i dont get it. oh, just wanted to add this; dont know whether or not is significant: i have redlined the car twice (2 times) since i did the rebuild.
  7. ok. i'll check the bell housing area. BTW, 5 speed manual. here's some new info. i was driving it home last night after dropping a friend off. as i was going down the road, i was in second gear full throttle at about 3500 rpm, the noise all of sudden got worse, i felt a significant drop in power, and now it makes this noise all the time. i'll make a new video of the noise. it sounds like a very wet clanking noise. ok, i made some vids that i will have posted soon (HD camera, have to clear up some space on my computer the vids then wait 1 hour for it to download on youtube) made a video of it from a cold start to fully heated up. some idea's that my grandpa got that might be wrong: he was just saying to me while i was typing this that i might have collapsed a piston or piston ring (something like that); our employee was saying it might a wrist pin. here's some more info on my side. when i was out driving it, i was holding 200 degrees perfectly. when i started noticing the smoke, i shut it down instantly. i pulled over and checked for where it was coming from. it had only been 30 seconds before we got back in the car and my aftermarket guage was reading 265 degrees. (the ************ was soo hot that the hot side of my turbo was glowing when i opened the hood.) we rolled down a hill with the engine off (about 3/4 of a mile) and when i got to the bottom of the hill i checked the oil, which was just above the add hole on the dipstick. i had a quart of oil with me and topped it off, then drove it home about 3 miles. it did not make this noise at all the whole time i was driving it home. i just dont get it.
  8. my car just started making this noise after we had put the new rear main seal in and got the engine installed today. this car is driving me crazy. i cant do anything right. its always one thing after another. this car just wont let me fix it. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR A EJ SWAP SO PLEASE DONT BUG ME ANYMORE ABOUT IT! after this car is noise free again, im selling it and driving my Navajo.
  9. obvious problem was obvious. kinked PCV hose on the passenger (right side) valve cover. am buying new made to fit PCV hose. i just have some cut out hose that i bought and put in there myself. i kinda have the length right. i started off long and the 2 kinks in it were even worse. kept cutting it shorter till the kinks went away as much as possible, but never actually did get ironed out. guess im gonna have to buy the right hose now.
  10. well, i have about 4000 miles since finishing the rebuild. i dont quite remember what brand of seals i used but they came from some cheapo kit i bought off of ebay for 50 bucks. i did forget to lube the main seals prior to installation, so im wondering if that might have been a contributing cause. the clutch is fairly new, but everything in the bellhousing got soaked with oil, so i might replace, depending on how much money i have for this little project. we are about to pull the engine out right now, just undoing the last of the bellhousing bolts, then the motor and tranny mount bolts and we can pull it.
  11. decided to hit a local track last night and blew out my rear main seal in my 1988 Subaru GL-10 (turbo wagon) looking for some specific recommendations from you guys, recommendations on: name brand of new rear main seal any special anything on removal of old seal and install of new should i go ahead and do the front one too since i used super cheapo seals from the rebuild so yeah, thought please. thanks people. going right now to get a friend and we are gonna pull the engine out.
  12. went out to do some 0-60 times in my 1988 Subaru GL-10 and blew the rear main seal. gonna pull the engine out tomorrow. also, i ran over a snake on accident while rolling down a hill on my way home after this happened. we pushed my car about 1.5 miles and drove it at very low rpm's most of the time. we had to drive a total of 6.5 miles to get back to my house.
  13. yeah, i was the one who brought this up the first time. your pics are exactly what it looked like. i used a filed down washer to space the lifter, but GD's idea of using dimes definitally would have worked better if i had thought of that earlier. the clacking finally stopped after about 500 miles of driving after spacing the lifter; it probably finally adjusted the rest of the way. good luck to you coming up with a solution.
  14. please dont tell me you forgot to put oil in the A/C system. also, where did you go to have the A/C system vacuumed before you charged the system?
  15. ok ^^this^^ is most likely my problem. i'll check all those areas you mentioned. thank you.
  16. actually, i wanted to add to this. i remember having the same problem and feeling in a different rig right before the brake booster went out. i wonder if that might be a problem....
  17. yeah, thats kinda what i was thinking. i have seen it happen with some other vehicles my family owns, so im not really ruling it out on my car. its not that big a deal to replace the master cylinder anyway.
  18. ever notice that the brakes on race cars can get so hot that they glow bright even in the daylight? a little bit of glow from riding the brakes (so little i only see it at night if i do the hill) would be normal. im using ceramic brake pads, which im noticing dont smell as bad or small for as long as some other pads i have used on other vehicle's. i think it might just be my master cylinder or something. with the brakes properly bled and flushed, i took notice that my pedal still feels soft, and i can never get my brakes to lock up on a dry surface. i got more searching to do. jumped the gun.
  19. ok, 2 problems with that. 1. my subaru is a EA82 turbo which = to 7.7to1 compression so not much engine braking at all. the hills i go down are so steep that if i use shift down to try and slow down, the car will just keep speeding up bringing up the engine rpm. plus, the trails i take are pretty treacherous, so im not able to go down them fast, which also makes gearing down a problem. if i had the dual range 4 low and first gear would do the trick, but i dont have D/R. also i wanted to leave a little note i wasnt thinking about. when the brakes start getting squishy, i can use the e-brake (which only works the front i know) and it feels normal like my brakes arent hot at all. i know my problem is that the brake fluid cant take the heat. its awesome cause when i do this at night, when i get to the bottom of the hill, i can actually see my rotors glowing. oh, and its a 5 speed full time 4 wheel drive.
  20. well, it starts boiling the fluid then the pedal will start dropping to floor. i know its boiling it cause i just got it changed with a vacuum flush, and after doing the hill scene a couple times (with the pedal starting to go to floor about half way down the hill) i pulled my resivior cap and found my fluid was dirty with little floaties in it. btw, this hill exactly a mile long, almost facing straight down; its an off road hill and im going about 4mph the whole way down. and dont worry, you didnt sound like an a** at all. no offences taken either.
  21. i want to change my brake fluid to DOT 5 cause the 3 and 4 cant take the heat that builds up when im decending hills. are there any kits out there (replacement seal and o-ring kit) for me to be able to change to DOT 5? some info on my current brakes: cross drilled and slotted rotors front and rear, ceramic brake pads front and rear, flushed brake system with new DOT 4 fluid.
  22. so, there is a oil leak coming from the back of the engine somewhere. but, its not your typical oil leak. it only happens after driving down the highway for 30+ miles, then parking it till it completely cools. then there is this half-quart puddle of oil under my car and i cannot figure out where it is coming from. it only happens when parked after highway driving. i can cruize around town all day long, then park it for the night, and it doesnt leak. its really weird.
  23. does shifting at 6500 rpm give you a better kick out of first then shifting at 6K?
  24. funny. i bought my 1988 Subaru GL-10 turbo wagon for only 300 bucks; only a little rust on the rear lift gate; everything else clean/spotless, no rust; interior perfect; good tires. only thing was the guy had blown a headgasket; then to find out a little later that the number 3 cylinder was cracked. rebuilt a junkyard engine and slapped it in there and have drivin it about 3000 miles in the last 2 months. i love it. but that sucks. that rig had waaaaaaaay to many problems. he just wanted to rip someone off. but i always keep this in my mind; my grandpa told me this: Money Talks. and the sucker had money, so he got it. sucks. same thing happened to me when i was trying to get a new rider mower.
  25. dude, definitely make sure to do a write up. a friend of mine and i came up with the same badass idea about 6 months ago, but didnt quite have the funding for it. if you can make it work i really want to see.
