  1. is that really the case with those blocks? If you remove them you need a EA82 y-pipe? Does the EA81 y-pipe have clearance issues?
  2. Any half-way decent machine shop can do this, provided they have an actual flywheel machine. A standard blanchard grinder wont do it. They clean it prior to machining, this saves wear and tear on their machines. Then it is washed again afterwards. The flywheel face was surfaced, then the step was machined to my specifications. I went with .815 for the higher clamping load, and the EA82 clutch. Total cost was about $60 In machine shop jargon, just tell them you need the flywheel "turned" and the step machined to whatever depth you need. There are a few numbers floating around on the forum for different applications, as Subaru used a few different clamp loads for various EA81 and EA82 models.
  3. Uh, no. Driveline service in my garage
  4. Boy those U-joints sure are fun to remove Re-built driveshaft coming soon
  5. I got it from these guys.... http://thmotorsports.com/innovate_motorsports/innovate_gauges_mtx_series/3852/i-531014.aspx
  6. In nasty mud the best way to improve the grip of a road tire is chains. A FWD subaru + chains + flogging could get you places
  7. For the gauge? Not even worth it. That gauge was cheap for a reason. Soon to be replace with this guy Digital oil PSI and Temp And should illuminate like this...
  8. Fancy newly machined and resurfaced flywheel
  9. Im pretty well set on using the 2-piece. Ive heard people having problems with both, but Ill give the 2-piece a try first. We do not have a driveline shop in town. So at the very worst, with the 2-piece installed I can at least drive the thing to a town that has a driveline shop and have them lengthen my original driveshaft.
  10. I have an entire thread showing how it is done http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=127418
  11. Ah, and one more pic... Had a chance to do some junkyard hunting. Came home with the proper shift linkage and rear 2-piece driveshaft Only downside is that it will need u-joints. Oh well
  12. Okay, finally back at it.... And all future updates will be on this thread, in the MEMBERS RIDES forum http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1135460#post1135460
  13. Okay, back at it, FINALLY with an update. Sooner or later this motor and 5-speed will be in this car Ive been collecting parts... and Im just about there. new Empi front axles New rear axle CV boots. Strange, made in USA???:-p New radiator hoses Various parts. New OEM front and rear main seals, new OEM intake manifold gaskets, and a fresh set of NKG plugs New INNOVATE Digital Oil PSI and Temp gauge. This will replace the crappy gauge I had installed in the console. Expensive, but should be well worth it. And finally, new EA82 clutch kit, large version EA81 flywheel, and all the goodies. New TOB and pilot bearing. Just need to have the flywheel turned and machined to the proper thickness. More to come
  14. Bed is on the truck, new decking is installed, and the shop is freed up for the subaru.... more SUBARU updates to come...
  15. 'nother option is to install an aux-in for your OEM radio But youd have to be strange like me, and LIKE the original radio
  16. $100 for labor to handle the rear wheel bearings is cheap in my book. Especially if the car has any bit of corrosion (likely!) If you trust 'em, I would even be thinking about doing them myself.
  17. Got the rear CV boots from Rockauto:burnout: BECK/ARNLEY #103-2237
  18. Thats good to hear! In other news.... I was able to get the second, and final top coat on the flatbed sprayed this afternoon. Soon I can get this thing out of my shop
  19. I picked mine up from Thompson Engine, they are an Ebay retailer. here is one current auction for the same pistons. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-LOYALE-1-8l-EA82-PISTON-RINGS-SET-6527-STD-/140550324960?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item20b973c2e0
  20. Pretty good review mid-episode here.... I really like it. The wife wants a new 5-door Imp, we might have to spring for the crosstrek
  21. Glad you got it sorted out, but, you could have solved it yourself if you had followed my suggestions.... :-\
  22. Not just yet... Been working on the flatbed. Ive got about 12 hours of wire wheel stripping and 8-10 hours of fabrication into it now..... Just about ready for paint and re-assembly, then the Subaru will get attention. I hope to have all of my prep work done this weekend, then paint it this week. Then the flatbed goes back onto the truck, and Subaru goes into the shop. But I still have to make a firewood run this year before the Subaru gets attention That requires the truck! I did however order some goodies for the Subaru though. 2 new Empi front axles fresh radiator hoses new rear CV boots EA82 clutch kit and a cool new digital oil psi + oil temp gauge. Innovate Gauges - MTX Series (3852) It will be replacing the crappy oil PSI gauge I have installed in the console.
  23. Yet you say the bucking was there BEFORE the new carb? Maybe you should start looking elsewhere. Traditionally busking under light throttle = lean condition. Typically that means vac leak, or fuel delivery problem. Obviously I have never driven your car, but can you explain the symptoms again? Maybe its ignition related? What plugs are you running? How old are the wires?
  24. So as I suggested.... you still have a leak somewhere. Do you have a Vac line for the H-Vac? How about brake booster? What about the dizzy? Does the car have cruise control? And EGR as you mentioned. All are still suspect until you rule them out systematically.
